They made *Sia* apologized for this music video, as most people interpreted it related to the pedophile thing. Which I strongly disagree, the music video itself was a masterpiece and a great representation of domestic and psychological relationships of parents to their children, in some cases. I think the video was made to represents her own relationship with her father, who was an alcoholic. You can get that about it when you know a little more about her history. But it could be also, for me, a battle of the heart and mind after many loses and disapointments. Her heart, the man, it's scared the childlike innocence of a new love, but at the end it was hurted so much that it's imposible for a new love to save her heart and make it trust again even if it wants to. Or in relation with her story, it's that sometimes you can't save someone if they are lost, not matter how baddly you want to.
@siapolicia15304 жыл бұрын
It's not about father and daughter, Sia said Shia and Maddie are the two states of hers, her inner personas (adult and child) fighting in a troubled mind. But I guess it's free for interpretation. :)

Your interpretation is pretty similar to what I thought when I first saw the video, and I still like seeing it that way. It’s one of my favorite videos to just rewatch and try to take in all the nuance and small moments. Sometimes I wonder if we would have gotten another video or even a live performance with Shia and Maddie if there hadn’t been such a (completely undeserved) backlash to this video. People misunderstood and sexualized this in a way I’ll never understand. There’s no sex in this video. Just pain, however you choose to interpret what that pain signifies. I’d love to see your reactions to more of Sia’s stuff, like her live performances with Maddie and the other videos they’ve done together. Sia and her choreographer obviously put so much thought into everything she creates, and Maddie is just such a fantastic dancer that I love seeing everything they work on together. Plus that *voice*. I just love it.

that last part of the video broke my heart the first time i watched it, it brought something raw, pure, scary and beautiful from inside me. i like it when music, or in this case, a video does that, caught me off guard, and kinda loved it for that. after that time, any rewatch brings something new, and u start getting other things from the video, the emotions. was kinda let down for u making fun of it, but i guess that was just ur raw reaction to it, and thats what im always here for. maybe it connected something inside me, personally. idk. anyways, always a pleasure watching u react to something that i love♥♥♥

The video is very much about Sias relationship with her father, both of who have struggled with substance abuse. Sia got clean, her father didnt. They had a very difficult, awful relationship, but Sia still wishes she could save him. The song, which I think has that romantic theme you read in it really gets another layer from the video. It's kinda like, how does Sias relationship with her father reflect on her relationships with men in the future.

I know I'm a bit late but: The cage in the video represents mental illness which both her father and Sia suffered from. They had a hard relationship. She finally managed to escape from depression, while her father couldn't. She tried to help get him out, but finally had to give up. All of her videos have great messages. For example 'The Greatest': It's a tribute to the victims of Orlando Pulse night club. Bulletholes in the walls, 49 dancers for 49 dancers, rainbow tears.... And then I would recommend 'Free Me'. Great video starring Zoe Saldana supporting #endHIV. Great video btw! 😊🐧🏳️🌈👍🏼

Time for me to recommend sickick again 😅 also sia is great 👍🏼 idk for sure but I believe this song is about her childlike imaginative self going against the adult side or how society favors adult behavior and maturity over childlike humor and imagination and creativity. I’m not entirely sure this is about relationships per se but rather societal pressure put on artists and creators. There was some controversy around this video. Too many Karen’s thought this was normalizing pedophilia 🙄🙄🙄 literally have no idea where that idea came from but they were wrong 🤷🏻♀️ but yeah the warring emotions within someone and being caged in with the solemnity and maturity we are forced to turn to I believe is what this is But ye sickick and stromae now that I think of him. When she tries to get him out of the cage, basically in can be understand the cage as "Mental Health issues", both were dealing with Mental health issues, but Sia fought to escape from that dark place, she tried to help her father, they both loved each other but she just couldn't. (that's why he can't get out from the cage). The video is basically the ups and downs of their relationship.

He wants to stay in the cage. But he also doesn’t want to be alone in it. Misery loves company. Some people stay in toxic relationships because they’re afraid of being alone. “Alive” is a different type of video, but the song is amazing
