1:29 I’m crying. I’m literally crying. sobbing. on the floor. crying. the face right before the scream. the pause. the moment of peace and hesitation before it let loose that fukcnign yell. I’ve been rewatching this bit for at least five minutes and I pause along with the monkey and then lose my shit when its mouth opens. the maniacal hooting filled with such raw power but somehow devoid of emotion. My mom was at the zoo and she started laughing her Butt off at something. She sounded JUST LIKE a siamang. They started getting really excited. They were frantically looking out in the crowd for ‘the one who got away.’ Then our whole family started laughing and running away from their area so we didn’t further disturb their peace.

I think the howls of these monkeys are just downright hilarious and funny. One time, when I was a kid, I started to tease my little sister mercilessly at the zoo. I would say, "There's your boyfriend. He says he loves you." And these monkeys would start howling. She would yell, " Shut up!" and cry. Then I would say, "He says he will take you to the dance." And again these monkeys would start howling. And again she would yell, "Shut up!" Last, I would say, "He says after the dance, he'll take you to the ice cream parlor and share a banana split with you." And again, these monkeys would start howling yet again. And again she would yell, "Shut up!" and cry. I thought that was so hilarious and funny that I was laughing really hard! Needless to say, once we got back to the car, my Dad let me have it and popped me across the head and spanked me pretty hard! I had it coming, but it sure was worth it. Ah, the good old days and memories!

These beautiful small apes with their amazing calls are part of my childhood - I lived 2 miles from the San Diego Zoo, and we could hear this extraordinary call every morning, as they will call out their territory. So beautiful, and evocative of wildness. I was very fortunate to work at The San Diego Zoo for 10 years, and hear these, as well as many other primate & bird calls early every morning, as the animals wake.

@PinciSlasher They are small compared to other apes, hence why they are classified as Lesser Apes as opposed to Great Apes.

I can definitely see that species using playground equipment at a park. The kids would probably be scared(?) off by their constant hooting and laugh-like barking, as they fly through the playground like hyperactive traceurs!
