This is the music I imagine played as one makes the slow walk towards the gates of heaven, reflecting about the past life and as old relatives begin to appear in the horizon...

Kudos to the North East Wales Sinfonia for a superbly paced performance, bringing to life that spirit set down long ago by Jean Sibelius of his love of nature and his country far to the north.

A gorgeous piece of music, which I have heard here for the first time, Sibelius in sublime mood. Beautifully played by this small ensemble, and very well recorded too in a fine old building with great acoustics. Sibelius was a very good violinist and it shows. The unexpected percussion at the end came as a complete surprise. One of the many unexpected musical treasures that KZbin now hosts and you can trip upon. Thank you for whoever posted this.

In my opinion, it’s very difficult to nail the dynamic phrasing with the timing but wow. Just wow. Bravo.

What was meant is it’s a pleasure for Finnish citizens to hear this wonderful music performed so well;the comment is from a Finnish person ( obvious from the name) and is a compliment.

When you are out to dinner with a nice looking, pleasant date and you are wishing you were here with that other person, that's how I feel listening to this piece. I dream of Tchaikovsky and the miracle of his Serenade for Strings.

It's weird hearing this with the melody. We play it on our school orchestra but since I play the bass I never really hear the melody

Just heard the 1939 version and this though lovely seems a bit to fast.

This is way faster than the original, but still beautiful ig

if you mean faster than Sib's 1939 yes it is but not as fast as some most recent covers.

Great string playing which was obliterated by those damned timpanis

I can understand that guy... he sat there doing nothing for almost the whole duration of the piece, and at last he had his chance to play a couple of bars... of course he'd make an 'unforgettable' moment out of it !
@vinskilindqvist45544 жыл бұрын
Florin Chirila it’s mezzoforte not forte, he played it too loud

Is this a good piece at all? I'm just asking, I'm curious about your opinions whether it's a good or a mediocre piece and please tell me why
@jounisuninen Жыл бұрын
It's kind of "divine". Can't explain otherwise. But of course it is very "Finnish" too.

What a self indulgent piece of nonsense: a conductor for 10 string players? Do me a favour. At least one of them remembers to look at him flailing around during their performance.
