Thank you, this is one of Sibelius’ greatest pieces of music. Priceless !

Spectacular! A great performance of my favourite tone poem from Sibelius. With this and his 3rd Symphony, Maestra Canellakis shows us she understands Sibelius' sound-world. Bravo to all!!!

In Saga, a symphonic poem for orchestra, Opus 9, is epic and mysterious even if Jean Sibelius always insisted on the absence of literary source in this composition, he enthusiasm approaches the first movement « Allegro energico » by accentuating an organic and penetrating romanticism. The melancholic solo at the beginning given to the clarinet leads to a second elegiac material soon overtaken by a superbly mastered dramatic development. In the second movement « Andante, ma non troppo lento » is a deep nostalgia set to one of the composer’s most beautiful melodies. The ardor and brilliance of the third passage « Scherzo: Allegro » reaches heights of rhythmic involvement with the unwavering support of the timpani. The last theme « Finale: Quasi una fantasia » begins with the return of the clarinet solo from the opening which the orchestra leads unceremoniously, accentuating the devouring roar of the brass. Then new chords chain together a melody played by the bassoons chain together after reaching a climax which is followed by a transitional section, has a solo section by the timpani which are meant to speed up the timpani beats to conclude on a tremolo. This symphonic poem benefits from an incandescent decoding capable of highlighting the characteristic atmosphere changes that structure it. The piece is masterful in its handling of orchestration. Sibelius reveals himself to be a true orchestral composer in the manner of Berlioz. « En Saga » is one of this avant-garde composer’s most popular and widely recorded orchestral works. The music of Jean Sibelius seems spatial and metaphysical. It changes inescapably our perception of time. For the purists: Jean Sibelius' music is so out of this world. *Lucien*

Together with Tapiola this is one of Sibelius´ most known Tone Poems. Great performance of the orchestra under Karina Canellakis baton!

That's why we're here 😊. I play clarinet myself, it's tough to play this solo in a beautiful way.

I don't like it. An unstructured performance, no hierarchies. It sounds like every group of the orchestra is playing chamber music at equal volume. It sounds like this conductor is there for all the wrong reasons.

Maybe your are right, maybe you are wrong. At least you have expressed your opinion. I try to follow you about "unstructured", "playing chamber music at equal volume" , but I cannot understand. As this is a forum for all opinions I welcome your opinion but I disagree.

Actually you just point out one of the strengths of this conductor. It is rare to hear orchestral music presented with such textural clarity. Her Sebelius is like layered cake, simply delicious.

For mixing the audio for release, the audio tech probably had the limiters on to prevent distortion. So the audio mix is a little compressed. If you run your audio on a expander, it will bring back the dynamic range. But, I thought the mix was pretty good. Better than most.
