I love my Luna! Escape artist for sure. She learned how to open a locked window to get out. When my husband received bad news and was crying, Luna immediately came to get me. Prancing and pulling me off the bed. She was so insisted that I followed her. She ran to my husband who was on the kitchen floor crying because he was just told his brother had passed. I received my husky when he was 2 as a gift. I didn't know what i was getting into. I always had easy going, trainable dogs. This one was definitely a challenge for me. He's 6 now. He is absolutely gorgeous, lovable, great with kids, sneaky, smart, bossy, hairy as hell. He is not interested in barking or protecting my house. He really does not care if anyone is at the door. He's a hugger. Definitely full of energy. They dig a lot. I have a 6ft wood fence. He hasn't been able to get out but he is always inspecting it to see how he can get out. He is able to open his kennel. He learned how to howl last year. It was great. The neighbors thought I was mistreating him. Not the case at all. He was sad because my nephew left and he was heartbroken. Now he howls every time my nephew visits and leaves. He even taught the neighbors dogs how to howl so they join in. Smh...

I remember way back to being a toddler, i used to ride my Nan's huskies around the yard and they loved it. I was a part of the pack as soon as they met me. They were awesome doggos. Kahn, he was the most protective of me and unfortunately shortly after a visit, a red belly black snake made its way too close to the house. Good ol Kahn, he was still looking out for me but unfortunately he got too zealous and got bit. He was an old boy and from what I heard he had a smile until the end. Huskies will be your best friend till the end and beyond. Ive never seen another animal go against survival instincts for another like Huskies do. They're too damn wholesome

For anyone watching this video trying to research Siberian Huskies for your own pet, let me say that I have had a lot of dogs in the past 45 years and my current is a Siberian Husky and is now 10 months old. This video is scary accurate. I just though all of the personality quarks like unusual friendliness, lack of eating, being and escape artist, digging, and being a HORRIBLE guard dog (seriously she doesn’t even lift her head when the mailman comes), was just her own personality traits and that every S. Husky is different. Well this video absolutely nails every detail. There is no exaggeration whatsoever.

@@goswo If you can manage the cons, train and socialize early in his/her life, and have time for it then yes. Some huskies tend to be aggressive towards other dogs/breeds, more so at dog parks for whatever reason. That's been my experience. As long as the owner can control their dog, it's not a problem. But on my ring app a few days ago, a cat owner showed a video of a husky attacking their cat on their lawn and the owner of the husky did not have control of their husky. It was a video that was really hard to watch. At our local dog park, two huskies and their two owners were at the dog park alone. At the fence they started barking aggressively at my mastiff. I decided there was no way I was going to let my dog in there with them. So please, if you decide to get one, please socialize and train them early.

don't listen to the two posters above me: a husky needs WAY more then "a walk aday" you need to run them on a bicycle 3 times a week to keep them from becoming destructive in the house or wanting to escape. they mellow out after about 6yrs old. you should NEVER let them off-leash unless its a fenced area. they are great canines but are much more independent and intelligent than most other common breeds

Spot on! Great video! Hope folks watch this before bring a Siberia (or Alaskan) husky home. As a single male who works from home (and doesn't mind the sheading), we've made each other's life so much more fulfilling. It took a few years for our bond to build, considering he had been handed off about four times before he was one, which is around the time I took him in. But now, it's an amazing bond of mutual love and respect. He changed my life. There were a few trying times in the beginning, but once I fully committed and came to understand his needs more, there was no turning back. Siberia (or Alaskan, slightly larger than a typical Siberian, which I learned recently) huskies are not for everyone or all circumstances, but for those willing to give time and attention (and be around the home most of the time), this might be the breed for you. Again, a life changing (for the better) experience. I love my baby boy, more than words can adequately convey. Thanks for the wonderful video! Great information for any considering bringing this bead home and integrating into the family unit (in our case we're the family unit. :) Thanks!

It’s on point and very informative as well and I am impressed with this video. The only thing I cannot impress to people who have never had a Husky (or Malamute and other major shedding breeds) is how bad the shedding is. I usually tell them it is like Pig Pen from Snoopy; except the dirt cloud is hair. We had to net the hair out of our fish tank…and it had a glass lid on it! I love my fur babies even if they shed more hair than other breeds even have. ❤️😁

From my own experience, the hunting drive was the most troubling. They had no problem with cats or other creatures that clearly were part of the family. In fact, they were very friendly with my cats and most cats. But it is nearly impossible to stop them from hunting wild animals such as boar, deer, etc. Also sheep and other livestock. Mice, rats, and other small animals were frequently caught. So yes, keep them on a lead of some sort if there is any chance you may run into these things. Also, the amount of fur shed is hard to fathom. Cycling with them is a good idea, if possible more than an hour daily. In my case, the dogs were in fact adequate as guard dogs. They were very suspicious of large men in particular, and were clearly prepared to attack if further threatened.

I took in a stray that was starving. He seemed about 5 mo. He food guarded on me the first night, and has no problem biting arms, legs, hands. Food guarding solves itself for me since i use the bottomless buffet dish method and all they can eat. They forget what real hunger is and food isn't worth fighting over. Ive been training him to not bite but he could easily become dangerous if not raised right. He's been here a mo. Now and has gotten much better and gentler at overall citizenship

I had a husky that we just had to put down after 15 years. I would never own another one. They're great dogs but destructive especially when they're young. We locked her up in a cage once. We came home and half the bedroom door was gone. The cage was still locked closed. To say they are escape artists is an understatement. They're pack dogs and can't be left alone at night or they will howl and destroy. Still she was a great family member till the end and gentle around people.

In 4 days i taught him how to let himself out and we havent had a accident in a month. They are more agile than most dogs. My husky meets just about every pro and con in here. I'm not sure if I missed it or is wasn't mentioned, but the biggest con for me is the hair. She's a great dog, when she was two we got a kitten and she was great with him. They are best friends and play with each other all day, every day. She does only eat a little bit at a time. We have changed her food several times but I think it just comes down to she eats when she wants to. She doesn't talk to howl too much which is great. She does get sassy sometimes but it's not often, which I'm thankful for. The shedding though... Ugh. We take her to the groomer every 6 weeks to get a good bath and blown out which helps with the hair that builds up around the walls of the house and all over everything, even after sweeping every day.

Our Husky understands he is not allowed to eat our cat, and for the last 8 years has seemed to include him as his pack-with some alpha situations, since the cat also understands the Husky is not allowed to hurt him...He teases...We leave them alone for a few hours -the cat is swift and has escape routes. The cat also has our Senior lab on his side-she barks and growls if they get too rough. The neighbor's chickens? He killed one 9 years ago, and was confined to house, leash or 60' cable as he pleases until recently. He seems to have learned something from our lab, who stays by our side in the yard. Rocky will now stay within 30 feet of us, plenty of call back time if he even looks across the 4 acres to the neighbor's chickens. We only unleash him when we are outside and able to supervise him. Has the freedom of the local dog park, too. Runs 5 miles in the mornings in cool weather with my husband, Walks a mile in the AM and one more in the PM in warmer weather. Also takes the evening walk in cooler weather. Washes faces, makes sure no one lays down on the couch while he is inside, prefers inside during the day, outside at night on his cable. Howls at the back door if he changes his mind....love our four-footers!

But if it rains a lot and she doesn't get out she is just fine don't let a lot of the details get to you they're very friendly and adaptable and really love your company so just keep a routine for them so they will know what to expect and you will be fine

I have a HIGH energy red heeler/blue nose pit mix named PopTart. She's in my current profile pic. This sounds just like her except for a few things. She is a good guard dog. She will not stand for someone she doesn't know messing with our territory. She doesn't attack, she just wants to play too, but because of her intimating bark & hair standing up ppl back off. I only had one other person still pet her like that but she owned a heeler as well & knows how they are. She won't bite anyone, but her stands up & she's got that loud bark & that frightens ppl. We do socialize her & take her many places with us. After the first initial 5 mins, her hair relaxes & she is good with others around. I think she's just trying to warn us that someone is approaching & needs to check them out first before she is okay. There is one man she doesn't like though & he radiates such toxic energy I believe she picks up on that. She is very vocal too. Her voice will be heard!

This was the most d ad pot on of any vid like this I’ve seen. My husky Kronos was very quiet at home & never got into trouble as long as he had enough exercise (2 five mile runs a day. Recommend a bike attachment like the “Springer” on Amazon). Kronos never liked much attention & would walk away if petted for 2 min. But he had a bit of separation anxiety. He’d whine & howl if left in front of a store when in there for 5 min. Some huskies don’t like to be bathed or brushed. Kronos hated brushing so I do 5 min at a time sometimes several times a day. He kept himself so clean I never found the need for a bath w/ him. Huskies tend to be healthy but are prone to cataracts, epileptic seizures, and dysplasia.

I don't know about the guard thing. Had a pure-blooded SH and it would certainly guard the the house and yard. Their loyalty is insane though. Especially if you have children. Now, I know some people frown upon my country's idea that children can be left unattended some places, but keep in mind, we have a different society to the U.S. However, I trusted my dog SH completely with my son. Hell, if he was there, my youngest could've taken a stroll through town for all I care (not literally), because no matter who got close to the front yard were my son played, he was always there, looking out. Not even the postman could get close, despite we lived in a rural area with the same guy coming by every day. Picked up my son from school one day too, and my son was pushed by some kid who didn't notice us. After that my SH growled every time that kid got near my son. It a few visits afterwards, before the kid was "allowed" near our son by our SH. He never once bit anyone, but he always looked out for everyone. We got him as a pup a couple of months before my then partner got pregnant, and it was the best. I know they say "never trust them fully", but I bet you my son could. Don't know if it was loyal to me or my son through pack hierarchy. But he always looked out for him. Unfortunately, he's not with us anymore. So, now we have German Shepard instead. Easier to manage with running around all the time too, and the time they take.

I think in your dog's case, his reaction towards that bully was just natural pack instinct. They'll be pretty friendly towards anyone until you do something to their pack, like any canine.
