Join TCC's pharmacist, Jay Gill as he discusses Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) with clinical nutritionist, Araceli Benavides. Araceli does an excellent job explaining what SIBO is, the root causes, symptoms, and potential treatment options. SIBO happens when bacteria begin to overgrow in the small intestine, as opposed to the good bacteria growing in our large intestine. This small intestinal bacterial overgrowth causes excess gasses to build up.
You may want to consider a SIBO consult if you are suffering with constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating, rashes, eczema, fatigue or depression. Thankfully there are treatment options. Often antibiotics like Xifaxan or Neomycin are ordered, but sometimes herbal treatments are the best option. Berberine, Allicin, Neem, and Oregano are favorites.
We appreciate Araceli sharing her vast knowledge of SIBO with our listeners! Araceli Benavides practices at Capital Integrative Health in D.C.
