When, I was growing up, we always used beef but called it Shepherd's Pie anyway. I don't think I'm alone there. As an adult I have learned that the beef version is widely called Cottage Pie instead. If you look around online, you can find recipes for Lamb Cottage Pie. I have no idea where that comes from.

Thank you, Marion! I will try this. Many years ago, I improvised by using dobanjiang to marinade a ~1.5-kg whole chicken for ~1/2 hour before roasting it like a simple Western-style roasted chicken, and the result was sensational... I honestly did not know what I was doing actually or what I was aiming for. Ha ha!

Just made this. The only thing I changed was the lamb. I used beef because that's all I had. It's absolutely delicious. And since I'm in quarantine, I don't have to share this with my boyfriend. 😜 Great recipe! Will definitely cook again.

Hey Marion, do you routinely make your mashed potato without milk &/or cream? I'm asking because, being fairly new to the channel, that's the second recipe I've watched with only cheese added to the mash. 'Pies' could be the theme, but mash without milk tends to be really dry.

With the Shepherd’s Pie that I have, We use beef along with the cheese on top of the pie after the garlicky taters are on top and into the oven until cheese melted. 👍🏽

Hi Marion!, I have only used beef as my family doesn't eat pork! That being said, I know of those who use half mince beef, half mince chicken or turkey! We don't eat lamb for religious beliefs, but I don't think we miss out on flavour! I layer potato, mince, corn(half niblets, half creamed), potato, mince, corn, potato and shredded cheese on top then bake! Spices, thai chili, etc.... I really am intrigued with your individual serving idea! It is a must try for next time!, thanks again!

Looks good. Add some creamed corn between the meat and mashed spuds and you will add a Quebec flavor to the combo. Would be appropriate because Shepherd's Pie is called "Paté Chinois", or Chinese pate/pie...
