Granita, now where have l seen that recently 🤔. The Watermelon one you made in NZ was just missing the Piazza and the proud owner to have made it perfect!! Pasta with potatoes double carbs double the pleasure. Once again the beautiful moments with the owner/restaurateur are what shines through the food. You certainly packed a ton of eating into this 3 part series in Sicily. What an amazing array. Now l guess its off to Istanbul for me, the final playlist for me to chase. 🙂

Great food video. Love to see your interactions with the local food proprietors and some kitchen scenes - please keep them as one of your main/regular features. Do have to say though, that since grapes have been grown in Sicily for over 2,500 years, it would only be natural that they had already been preserving some of the grapes (making raisins) well before the post-6th century Arabs/North Africans turned up.
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken Lee. Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback. We love getting into the kitchen etc so show as much of that action as possible in all our videos. Interaction with the people making the food etc is always brilliant also when people are happy to be on camera. Makes total sense with the grapes. I think it was more the style in which they were used with this sort of dish becoming popular. I believe the Arabs/North Africans changed the cuisine a bit with their arrival. Speaking of grapes we'd love to tour more of Sicily to try some more of their wine. We hear there are some pretty great drops to be found. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! Cheers, Thomas 😀

*_caponata_* - Completely forgot that caponata is Sicilian. I am very fond of eggplant and eat caponata often...warm on pasta or rice; room temp on bread; as a spread in a sandwich; or just straight from the bowl. 😀 *_potato and pasta_* - Haha. Did this just last week. Carbs! I know you two have been to the UK. Ever have a *_chip butty?_* mmm, mmm. *_granita_* - Those were quite luxurious indeed. If people have never seen it before and decide to order it at their local restaurant, they may be royally disappointed. 😂 Fantastic food day. Every stop a winner!

👍 Yes. Enjoyed the entire series very much. Quite educational. I know so much about Italian cuisine but as I mentioned about caponata, I've forgotten many details it seems. Palermo is Beautiful but I wish someone finally goes somewhere else in Sicily besides Palermo all the time, I went to a town down in the south of Sicily called Licata which is a province of Agrigento where the famous Valley of the Greek Temples are and loved Licata with it’s charming town and beautiful port, very delicious food. Just hope you finally do get the chance to go there soon, I know you’ll also fall in love with Licata as I did. Just wish more people knew of this town other than just the capital of Sicily.

Hi Alan Merda, thanks for watching and commenting! Hope you enjoyed this video. Licata sounds stunning- we love visiting smaller villages and towns but unfortunately on this trip we couldn't travel around like we prefer because of the cost. It English common in Sicily? I’m going over there to study abroad. I’m going to try to learn as much Italian as I can, but I know I won’t be fluent by then

The crumbed mackerel looks like a winner, and the carb on carb madness of potato pasta could be great too. I've always been a fan of the chip sandwich.

Do you have the best place to have Canoli in Palermo?
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын
Hi Morris Lightman, thanks for watching and commenting! We didn't eat cannoli on this visit as we learnt that it's a seasonal dessert (eaten between autumn and spring) and locals don't eat them in the summer as ricotta isn't produced then- although most pastry shops will still sell them year round. We did have Pasticceria Costa marked as a good spot for them even though we didn't partake. Hope you enjoy your time in Palermo! Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the rest of our Palermo videos. Cheers, Sheena

Thank you for writing back with this info! We are heading to Palermo in a few weeks and just curious generally speaking are the cab drivers fair in Italy or will they try to rip you off ?
@ChasingaPlate5 жыл бұрын
No problem at all. We didn't take any cabs whilst in Palermo- we actually walked everywhere and took the occasional bus. The central area is very compact and flat and thus very walkable. Sorry we can't help on this front Morris! Cheers, Sheena

Please I hate to sound condescending but don't slurp up your spaghetti. It is considered uncouth. Twirl a few strands on your fork using your spoon as a base until the spaghetti wraps into a tiny ball and then insert the entire portion into your mouth.

@@ChasingaPlate That is much more similar to "Grattachecca" from Rome. The real granita is not made up of pieces of icy ingredients. It's cold and creamy. Not icy.

Hi! Thanks for watching this one and we hope you enjoyed it. Not sure what you're referring to sorry? We didn't say that in this video (and never would , we never expect anything to not be good and wouldn't judge something on our opinion before eating it). I do mention that the pasta was much wetter than I expected. Maybe that is what you heard? Us Kiwis do have some different ways of saying things though! 😀😂 Thanks again for watching. Cheers, Thomas
