Our local gaming group is finding the two short/small-area scenarios in The Blitzkrieg Legend (6.6 Arras, followed by 6.5 Sedan Breakout) to also provide excellent opportunities to learn the system in a compact and manageable way. We're also using Vassal to do so and are finding it makes the process faster and easier... apply markers, labels, change status, pouring/restarting, etc. We're using a group-think approach... no one is specifically playing either side and we're also using some very good community generated player-aid resources, talking through each step on the expanded /detailed Sequence of Play that appeared in the OCS-specific magazine with Sicily II.Thanks for encouraging words about this series!

Thats a great idea! I’ve had the idea to host a drop-in/drop-out learning game of Tunisia II going for a weekend when conventions open up again.

@@Justegarde Although 3 of the 4 of us in the "playing team" are local to one another, we're actually using Zoom (+ Vassal as mentioned) to do this, "meeting" one night a week for 2.5-3 hours. When we first started four weeks back we used an open room on the OCS Discord channel and John Madison played out 6.6 Arras (1/2 a turn) for us, explaining and answering our questions as he went along. Outside of an in-person convention that might be an alternative method to introduce/teach the game.

Those sound like great sessions. If possible, I would love to jump in on one of those.

I agree that the meme that OCS is complicated needs qualifying. The rules for OCS are not that complicated. It probably doesn't even make top-10 wrt. rules density on my shelf. But translating those rules to making good move decisions is hard - and that's part of what makes it a fantastic system. And I agree with you about everything else you said about the various games.

Great, thanks a lot. If it is possible, for me it would be great if you show the landing and the trains (rail cap, detrainable hex, train busting), how they work, how to use.

Would Tunisia (NOT Tunisia II) be a good starting point, or is it outdated?

You absolutely can use the original Tunisia to learn the system (and it’s usually cheaper to find for sale). As far as I’m aware, the only real difference is that T1 uses the older OCS map art style. Just make sure you’re using the latest series rules (that goes for any OCS game, really).

The problem with Sicily is the same problem with most OCS games - the victory conditions. The Axis can't lose if they play for the victory conditions (which is totally ahistorical.)

This is a very prescient comment in light of the finale going up tomorrow.
