I enjoyed the day at the CBS in the away safe standing section. Cov fans were very friendly and realistic after the game despite the defeat. Norwich are getting better and have lost players, but made what look like some excellent purchases with a few who have yet to play and could be exciting once bedded in. Coventry were good in the 1st half, not sure what happened in the 2nd when Norwich dominated possession and that’s where Coventry have to improve. I’d suggest you have a decent team who would be excellent with a tough ball winning midfielder and a good attacking full back on the left side. Most of your wide play came down the right and Norwich got to grips with that relatively quickly. Best of luck for the season.

I'm that strange creature, a Derbyshire born and bred man who fancied being a Canaries fan in their teenage years - back in the late Seventies - and they've never looked back since! I try following them on away days around the Midlands and if I don't get an away ticket on the day I can still console myself that I'm having a day out, in Coventry's case in one of my favourite destinations. This was a fairly fair-minded commentary from the home fan's point of view, Matt and thanks a lot for it. Maybe we were slightly let off by an under-par display by the Sky Blues, but I'm still pleased that we have the first victory under our belt and an away one, to boot. After not getting into the CBS Arena I had a very pleasant stroll along Foleshill Road, dropping in on a couple of Romanian supermarkets on the way to another of my favourite varieties of shopping, the famous Coventry Market. Back in the Eighties I went with my older brother - who is a Rams fan - to see Derbyshire CCC playing Warwickshire CCC away at the old Courtaulds Cricket Ground, near Foleshill Road, for a one-day Sunday match. It always sticks in my mind that, when we asked for directions, 'Foleshill' appeared to be pronounced 'Foezell'. Just over three years back I travelled along 'Foezell' Road on a replacement bus service between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton and it looked a very interesting place to visit, so I'm glad that I did so on Saturday! I have a Flickr presence entitled 'The Curves Man' and there's an album of the photos I took there if you'd like to take a look.

@darrensmith28042 ай бұрын
I cannot see how it is going to get better. We must have the slowest and physically weakest team in the league. We are constantly 2nd to every loose ball , we are easily pushed off the ball and they all shoot with their eyes closed. A big problem is we go for fancy footballers and that doesn't work in this league. Look at Norwich today....high intensity press and tight triangle passing....simple fitness and tactics and it works. What is worrying is that players are going missing , so there is little option for a pass. We got lucky with players like Gyokeres , Hamer and O'hare and we should of done everything to keep them together and build a team around them.

Great video and commentary Matt and Sophie ! Your absolutely right in that the players have to take responsibility when putting in a flat performance especially in front of a large home crowd. No excuse for that. The absence of Sheaf no doubt affected the midfield but someone has to step up. One head scratcher for me is the sale of Kasey Palmer to Hull for and undisclosed fee and possibly a bag of balls thrown in. Why on earth did the management do that considering we are so thin in midfield. Palmer for me was one of my favourite players. Although often injured he was excellent when healthy. Usually Coventry are on a winning streak when we enter an international break and when it ends we go on a losing streak. Maybe this time it will be different when play resumes. 15 years and counting since we have beaten Norwich City. Yep I'm sick of it too ! Well that's 4 down and 42 games to go ! Keep the faith ! If I'm Mark Robbins I am having the players not on international duty running laps for starters followed by some harsh but constructive criticism in the film room the next 2 weeks. Matt you are correct in thinking the team is not as good as collectively it thinks it is. I agree completely with your assessment of Simms. For me he is just too slow to react. He has size and power but lacks the crucial element of speed for this level and beyond. Unfortunately you can't teach it. You either have it or you don't. Thomas Asante up top for a game or two might not be a bad idea to see how he looks. PUSB ! Cheers to you Matt and Sophie !
@mking2832 ай бұрын
I don't usually reply first to my own comments lol. I just wanted to point out after I wrote them that I stumbled across Mark Robbins comments in the Coventry Telegraph that Palmer's transfer was "forced" upon the team by Kasey and his agent. That maybe true but the management has to have the foresight to have a plan in place well ahead of time to have a replacement player coming in. For Robbins to be quoted as saying there wasn't enough time to do due diligence on a replacement smacks of BS. Just admit you got caught with your pants down and learn from it. I'm in the camp that misses ViVeash on the sidelines. The pair seemed to work well together and Ali's sudden departure with really no explanation doesn't sit well with me and many other fans. Still in Robbin we Trust camp. The two week break has to be taken advantage of by the team. No more excuses. PUSB !

I think we have the quality its just not come together yet. We all see bits of brilliance, those bits will become more often as the season goes on. We are lacking in midfield, sheaf for me turns these games around. Both torp and eccles play much better with sheaf on. Some players need to be led and unfortunately we dont have that leader at the moment. I think we missed a few players in this transfer window, we wanted to be stronger but it didnt happen. January window id imagine will bring more players and more strength. Todays game wasnt good enough but it was only 1-0. If it was 4-0 id be more worried. Small margins which need ironing out. I know it's easy to say looking into the club from outside but if the rumours were true and we were offered a player plus cash for Simms or a decent fee for sheaf I'd have taken either and try to find 2 or 3 midfielders. When Vik left we talked about how we were better with wright and Simms and tats than having reliance on a single player, yet we have that even more so with sheaf and he can't play more than 75% of a season. Tats has reverted to the start of last season and although I understand is playing with so much fear. Bidwells not the answer at left back, Torp and Eccles did well first half but were rolled over second. It's even more frustrating that a deadline day signing for Norwich came on in Slimane and demonstrated exactly what we are missing. Allen has been a great servant but has found his level and it's below where we aspire to be. Why can't we just try Lati in the DM role with two 8s ahead of him? Tactically we were all over second half switching formations on multiple occasions, Assante and Bassette ran like headless chickens and got in the way too often, I'm not blaming them but it highlights the issues we have. Lati is constantly setting himself 3 or 4 yards off an attacker for a block, how many times have we seen goals ricocheting off our centre backs and wrong footing our keeper? We need to be more aggressive in defending and closing people down. Our objective at this point has to be trying to stay in touch with the top half and reinforce in Jan.
