Following their breakout success in England, flagship punk rock band the Sex Pistols venture out on their first U.S. tour. Temperamental bassist Sid Vicious (Gary Oldman) takes his troubled girlfriend, Nancy Spungen (Chloe Webb), along for the ride. Along the way, the couple's turbulent relationship strains the patience of bandmate Johnny Rotten (Andrew Schofield) and manager Malcolm McLaren (David Hayman), while plunging Sid and Nancy into the depths of drug addiction and co-dependency.

Johnny Rotten has become the most enduring figure from that era. Sid just gets a lot of attention because he died so young. He was a shitty musician and didnt have a brain in his head. But he has the look and swagger that epitomizes the punk rock movement.

Her audition video was pretty funny. She was heavier then, and kept saying "if you don't pick me for Nancy, I'll know why. It's cause I'm fat!" I love her though. This is not a slam. Just saying she knew why she wasn't cast. Nice of the director to give her a role anyway.

Gary Oldman's performance in this has never left me. This was the first time I had ever seen him on screen and he was electrifying. He was unbelievable. When I see him today I always assume he is wearing old age makeup because I will always see him as a young firebrand who seared the screen with his craft and charisma. If this comes to the screen I may have to leave the house and watch it again. So glad he finally won the Oscar.

When I first got really into the punk scene, it was 1979 and I moved into a punk house, a one-bedroom apartment with six people living in it. And one of them was Michele Roberts, the last woman that Sid dated after Nancy and before he overdosed. She was in her early twenties and was dating my friend who was 17. Once I told a joke about Sid, and she told me "don't say anything about Sid."

I saw this in the movie theater back in ‘86-87, was obsessed by it. I have the movie poster of them embracing by the dumpster, VHS & DVD, artwork, etc. Look beyond the characters, the cinematography is beautiful, and the music is incredible. Sid wasn’t terribly bright, and Nancy was mentally ill. Read her mother’s book, “And I Don’t Want To Live This Life” and Steve Jones’ autobiography.

That's why I loved this movie back then. It portrayed the real punk scene better than other Hollywood movies. It was legit. When I see depictions of the 80's now, they always refer to stupid meme's from the 80's, not real life. The valley girl - that wasn't how people actually dressed, it was literally from a movie.

No he wasn't. You are way off beam. He just played the obvious caricature of Sid Vicious and even that was not successful due to Gary Oldman being far too old to play Sid. If you watch video footage and interviews of Sid you can see there is a lot of Sid's persona which Oldman failed to capture.

A movie is a lot of embellishment and not always “the way it really was” it’s entertainment so enjoy it this turned new generations on to the Sex Pistols and Gary Oldham’s portrayal of Sid Vicious was Oscar worthy

I remember seeing this when it came out in theaters. However, when I watch the VHS< I can't watch the part when they're all jammed out on the bed, with just the TV's light cast on them. Too depressing. Almost as depressing as watching the documentary Nico Icon.
