A wonderful skit with everyone in top form. So funny as poor Sid finds himself in the middle of a domestic quarrel when all he wants is a peaceful time at the movies. The one thumbs down for this classic comedic skit is unfathomable.

I had the fantastic good luck to see Mr. Caesar and Imogene Coca do this bit at Bumbershoot in Seattle many, many years ago. He was a true master of his craft - every thing he did that afternoon brought so much joy to everyone in the theater. God give you rest, Mr. Caesar. RIP from a grateful audience member.

What a great bunch of classic comedians. Imogene Coca is hilarious, without even saying a word. That's pure genius! LOL

Anyone who thumbed down this hilarious masterpiece of classic comedy doesn't know funny. The reason the quality was so high, was that in the early days of television, people who started buying TV's were generally better educated because television was new and expensive. There was no pandering to the least common denominator adolescent mentality. Millions of people were watching this live, with no second takes. There were great writers like Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart and Neil Simon and comedic geniuses like Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner and Howie Morris. But at the head of the table was always Sid Caesar, a true American original.

Pure Genius. I remember being a young boy (1955) watching “Your Show of Shows” live every Sunday night and laughing so hard that I would pee my pants. Sid Caesar, Carl Reiner, Imogene Coca & Howie Morris were the core of the show with others like Louie Nye and Nanette Fabre adding to the outrageous comedy. This was the beginning of true TV comedy and after 70 years, it still hold up today. No cursing, no self deprecating, no name calling…..just pure, clean comedy which is forever gone. Younger people compare SNL to this show but it’s not even close. SNL is a boring POS which is not funny at all and has been on TV way too long. To compare SNL to YSOS is an insult to Caesar & Co. Yes, there were other funny shows like Ernie Kovacs (another genius), Carol Burnette, I Love Lucy and others but nothing like YSOS because of all the talent from the writers to the comedians all working together. I miss them all and if you were not born in the 50’ enjoy this clip with Sid doing his observation comedy. We miss you and may you all RIP….. P.S. If you’ve never seen the “This Is Your Story” skit (a spoof on “This Is Your Life”) look it up. I assure you that you’ve never laughed so hard in your life…enjoy.

He was my grandparents entertainer but I always knew him and his name. He was one of those greats from an era that is quickly dying off and it is a HUGE loss to film, theater, and entertainment as a whole. The world is losing something special in Sid and other people like him.

I'm surprised but not really the network that cancelled his show love these people that have that job the power of which show to keep and which one to get rid of some of them don't know what they're doing I don't know who hire the people but this is a great show they should have kept it longer

It's quite awe inspiring how meek Sid Caesar could play in this one when in reality he could've tossed the 2 interlopers out of the cinema with a couple flicks of his powerful fingers. The man was a physical goliath with the brain of a creative, comedic, genious and the heart of a true humanitarium. A remarkable, visionary genius with no limits on his talent, who harboured terrible demons and addictions that haunted his post Television life. In this case, the higher he flew the harder he fell. But he found redemption as he got older and confronted his demons and wrote extensively about them in two soul baring auto biographies. The man was a national treasure, like Buster Keaton before him, who similarily lost his way and drifted in to bitterness and booze.

When Carl comes in at 3:30, something goes wrong.... he either had to fix his wardrobe or re-check the script. He leaves backstage and you can see Imogene almost smile and break character. He comes back in screaming and he and Imogene go through the same few lines before continuing on. The fact that something went wrong and it still came off as flawless (sid with the popcorn is just brilliant) is a testament to how incredible they were as a comedy team.

Agreed. Always thought Sid was at his best when he played it straight, as he did to marvelous effect opposite Jimmy Durante and Jonathan Winters in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World." It takes great timing and talent to make others shine, and Sid (much like George Burns) had those gifts. Thanks so much for posting.

This is what funny is, couldn't get away with today at all someone would get offended, much like Mel Brooks who was one of Caeser's writers probably wrote on this. It's hilarious and most post and Vaudeville(Jack Benny being one of many) comedians had to be funny and almost perfect. If they weren't they didn't eat and that's one of the big reasons it's is so damn funny.

there was some mis information that Sid Ceasar lifted r up weights back then but that was obviously mis information,He was flabby .i think it was that movie about the early day of t.v . that gave the impression that he was a weight lifter

Sid Caesar was a very powerful man. He may not have been toned as we think of someone today who achieves a certain look from weight lifting but Sid was extremely strong and Mel Brooks story of.being picked up by Sid and held out of a hotel window is one I saw him relate on Conan O’Brian’s show. He was terrified at the time.

The camera, especially back in the primitive 50s, added at least 15-20 pounds. Sid, who was always svelte by today's standards, internalized this and developed an eating disorder later in life. He shouldna realized how robust and exquisitely handsome he was back in the day; though if he had, he probably wouldn't have been as funny. Thanks so much for posting!

So in the mid 1900s, was it customary for two combatants to strip each other of their clothing during a fight..? I mean, I have no problem with that... I find it arousing... Mmm.
