It's not baffling. MLB doesn't want to hurt the Astros franchise too much, because then all the owners lose. They try to find the right balance between harshness of punishment and allowing revenue to be earned in a large metro area like Houston. they didn't find that balance, in this case.

I heard either the broadcast or the replay system was put on a 8 second tap delay to try to fix the problem after 2017. Hinch's omission of a denial of buzzers is admission in my opinion. I believe the rumor there were meetings to coordinate the cheating. Plus, there is a photo online of one of the players with a wire tapped to his chest during an interview on the field right after the end of the game. I don't know if its a buzzer in the photo or if the photo is real but the photo doesn't look good.

Imagine having to put on that uniform and play a full season of baseball when everyone knows you cheated to win. These are suppose to be men, I bet kids don't even cheat at baseball.

I’m watching this late in 2022. Sadly, Sid, the ‘buzzer’ story never came out. I think the league made it clear to everyone - especially journalists - that for the ‘good of the game’ this needed to go away.
