I grew up in the US (telugu parents) and cannot sing at all, but have loved listening to Carnatic and Hindustani music since I was a child. I play sitar tabla, Mridanga (not at all professionally) I'm not criticizing Sid's talent, but I believe this is not the way this kirtana should be sung. It sounds very rough and almost angry sounding, if I may. Not the intent of Swami Tyagaraja's imploring of his Sri Rama. Also, no clarity at all in his singing; he's "swallowing" most of the words. He needs to learn Telugu in order to understand what he's singing. This kirtana is one of the gems of Sri Tyagaraja Swami and is meant to be a soulful rendering of Bhaktha Tyagaraja begging his Lord for moksham. Again no disparaging comments regarding his talents, but if you don't understand the Bhakti Bhava of the song or don't understand the lyrics, it makes it difficult to appreciate this rendering by Sid. 🙏

The first time I heard this composition was in the early 60's by none else than Balamuralikrishna. Sid Sriram has great talent and hence future. Only piece of advise (my two cents worth), slow down a bit and stay on Sangatis. Too much to offer in a short space of time can be jarring. Unwanted prayogams not required. You are as good without the frills.

My only comment was about enhancing the listening experience. It was an observation. Since it has been put in the public domain one would recive comments as these. It is upto Sid to take it or dump it. In my opinion he has a long journey to go and he could be remembered forever. Having said the above best wishes to Sid.

@@arkay292 In fact that is one of the Achilles heel in Sid's singing. The pronunciation of Telugu, Kannada and Hindi words as he is singing for that particular movie industry as well in the capacity of a playback singer - is not up to the mark. No issues about Tamil and Malayalam pronunciation. But you are right he sings in a bit of a fast tempo. Probably the influence of singing in rock bands in the US. English songs always have a quick tempo.

@@RaviKumar-ii6cb Thank you for responding. Being an avid listener of classical music and others, too, I wrote about how I felt. Sid is a young guy and has a long way to go. I do not want him to burn out. Any concert must have different tempos and treatment. Emphasis should be on musicality than vidwat. Also one needs to understand the composer"s ethos too and the raga should bring about that ethos, too. Many might disagree with me but that is my take as a Rasika.
