The new 2023 Lexus RX has been unveiled, and Tim and Jill got their hands on both the new model and the old model, for an awesome comparison video. Watch them walk around both the exterior and interior of the 2023 Lexus RX 500h F Sport and the 2022 RX 350 F Sport and see if you can spot any differences that they didn't mention. Did Lexus do enough with the new model? Do you like the changes, or wish they had left something alone?

Another factor between purchasing a 2022 or waiting for a 2023 is that the extremely reliable Lexus, naturally aspirated V6 available in the 2022 will not be available in the 2023.

Got my 2022 in December (purchased) January (delivered) at the peak of used car prices. Got a rebate on it and low interest, plus great amount for my trade in used Toyota. Looking at my decision from distance, made a great choice. Got the 6 cylinder vehicle, high price on my used car (market has come down since). I like how the new one looks at the back, but prefer mine when I look at the front. As for infotainment, I don’t really care, it has a great connection to my phone for calls and music, and that’s all I need. These guys pointing out handles and chrome bezel/lining, WHO CARES.

Although it’s late in the year, October, my wife and I decided to finally purchase the 2022 RX 350 because of the V6 engine. We DEFINITELY did NOT want to go with a four-cylinder engine for the new 2023 line. The V6 is and always will be “one” of the biggest selling points when buying a car/SUV.

The huge elephant in the room is Lexus getting rid of the bombproof 3.5 V6 engine that lasts forever to a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. Turbocharged engines have far more mechanical problems & wear out faster. Toyota switching to turbocharged engines is purely because of new emission standards.

I like the buttons! When I’ve had vehicles with only touch-screen, it hasn’t been safe. I like being able to glance down, & quickly “feel” the button I need to use vs. having to “read” the touch screen for the function I need to use...it takes my eyes off the road for more seconds which I found dangerous while driving. I have a 2010 RX450h with 440,000km, will be getting a 2022 in the next few weeks. The only things I like about the 2023 are wireless CarPlay and a smarter adaptive cruise control that will slow the car when it enters a curve. The 4 cylinder hybrid is a downgrade, wouldn’t mind trading the V6 for the plug in with bigger battery and electric motors, but that will add thousands of dollars. I don’t really like the front of the 2022, but it still looks infinitely better than the new model.

Sorry, the loss of the well respected, ultra reliable, bullet proof 6 cylinder is a deal breaker for me. Will the turbos go 200K without a major expense? I don't think so. Also, not sure about the eyes not on the road infotainment system being difficult to use, even just using buttons seems easier and safer. Not to be overly critical, the rear deck looks like it will allow cargo to just flow out, if on an incline.

Thanks for the review and comparison. I have a 2015 Nissan Murano Platnum AWD and love its design, but I have had to replace the CVT transmission twice now at 62,000 miles. The first time at 48K Miles and in warranty and again at 62K miles and had to pay a portion of it. It is shocking there hasn't been a recall on this but moving on. I do not want to keep the Murano and have been looking to replace it. The Lexus was an option, and I did have a Lexus before the Murano. Something to think about now with the new design. I am concerned about the longevity of the now painted surfaces, though. I think I prefer the older exterior design but what held me back from a Lexus RX was the interior. You pointed out everything I did not like about it, and it has been updated and changed! Next will be a comparison of the engine and drivetrain. After the nightmare with the Nissan CVT, I am interested in this. Thanks again.

The new 2023 has 4 power train options, V4 TURBO, Hybrid plug in, Hybrid, and all electric. So 3 of the 4 have electric involved in propulsion. I've seen the RX and NX in parking lots and on the road but they never "wow'd" me. Saw this and she immediately went to the top of my list! Sassy, classy and a little badassy! The grille didn't thrill me at first, but none of them do. However, when I see the 2023 next to the misshapen hourglass of the 2022..I like it better. Love that the silver chrome is gone! Maybe more and more makers are changing up the taillight design because it looks better! I live in the desert so rear climate control and ventilated seats is a definite plus! I was set on another make/model but as soon as this popped up...well, I think I have to have her!!! One other point I'd like to make; 4-cylinder engines work harder than their V6 counterpart. A turbo engine is not meant to be driven locally or shall I say around town. Those engines run more efficiently when driven on highways. For instance, my wife drives a 2022 QX55 with a 2-liter four-cylinder variable compression turbo engine. When she comes home after her short trips around town, I can literally smell the unspent fuel in our garage. I must change the oil every 5000 miles or 6 months and since she averages 3,000 miles a year, I've changed it twice already(she purchased it in 2021). Also, don't forget to change the Engine Air Filter or you'll defeat the purpose of having a turbo. Hope that the 2023 RX turbo comes with at least a donut spare tire as opposed to Run Flat Tire and a small tire compressor. Lexus's V6 engine is a time-tested reliable engine; why are they messing with a good thing?

I’m currently in the market for a 2022 RX 350 (luxury) in my humble opinion (and I do understand evolving trends) but there’s no comparison, the old 2022 with the buttery comfort and effortless V6 and this “new thing” with a ho-hum interior and 4 cylinder inferior engine (and smaller interior and roofline. I’ve test driven both and to me the clear winner is the old 22 model, in luxury feel, comfort , space and reliability. Edit: in the end it’s all about subjective rainbow 🌈 colors.

I had a 2019 Acura RDX before I purchased the 2021 Lexus RX350. The horse power & the information system is much better on the Acura. What sold me on the Lexus is the smooth ride. I was very disappointed that the Lexus has so much plastic on the interior for a luxury vehicle. I was not a big fan of the grill on the 2021 RX but it grew on me. I don't like the exterior of the new one at all. I don't think Lexus should try to have a similar design as other vehicles. For the price point they should have kept the V6 engine and change the weak transmission. I can't believe I had a 10 speed transmission in the Acura and only a 8 speed in the Lexus. It's so disappointing when you are merging into traffic on the highway and the Lexus acts like it cannot pick up speed. That is so disappointing.

The only thing I don't like is the suede inserts. In time they get slick and look dirty looking. Cleaning them does not restore the looks. They did the same thing to the 2015 to 2017 Toyota Camry XSE.. The owners really complained about it.

They are both nice, not sure why you are knocking the 2022. Its a nice proven vehicle but in your comparison your saying things like it's "messy" referring to the body lines while referring to the 2022 RX, what??? Why is it messy?

People don't be fooled by your Lexus dealers, when they talk abut Lexus RX 350 year 2022 they advertise so many optionals on this model but your RX 350 dosen't have any of those on it, and your seller doesn't tell you. Unfortunately you will trust the advertisements, and think your RX 350 you pleased should have all typical coverages they advertised, but you will realize the car you purchased has none of those.

I’m sure Lexus kept the CD player for the purest, I personally will miss the quality sound of the cd. It’s the closest you are ever going to get to being there live. I have a 2020 and I love the look of my car. I think seeing the tail pipe looks natural. Hiding them just seems weird to me. Anyway to each his own

Yes, physical buttons aren’t busy when you’re trying to drive and you have to go through multiple steps on a touchscreen to adjust the air conditioner or anything it’s annoying dangerous and a way to cheapen the cost for the manufacturer without considering the consumer. It’s only better for Lexus not the driver. Disappointed in their “improvements”

One thing a reviewer can do to stick out from other reviewers and become a superior reviewer is to let us know if the second row seats recline and by how much they recline. If you really want to be special, then you tell us how tall you are that way we can get a sense of how much room there is. I know from the start you already told us how tall she was.

I am a button kind of guy. I don't mind the big touchscreens but I want certain controls to be physical buttons. You didn't cover the steering wheel controls which are capacitive buttons with no markings. I saw reviews on it and it was terrible. You can only see the menus on the heads up display. This is a very disappointing for me because it can be distractive when you are driving. Also the fan and temperature controls are on the screen. What happens when the screen dies on you? I'm an engineer and some things are not thought about carefully. It just sounds like Lexus was trying to cut corners and save money. I still like the 2022 model overall. Physical buttons are nice to have and giving them on the touchscreen as an option is even better. I'm disappointed in Lexus about the new 2023 model.

If you want to drive a V6 and this is your vehicle of choice you had better snag a 2022 NOW. Otherwise, you're going to be riding around in a whiny little 4 banger turbo "luxury" SUV. No thanks AND the outgoing model is a better-looking vehicle. That front end on the 23 is CHEAP looking. WHEW! They are pointing out little things that don't matter. The truth is this is a downgrade vehicle and the 2022 is the way to go if you can find one. We have been looking and they are FLYING off the lots!!!

Excellent review! I have a 2015 RX450h and ❤️it. It was the last year of that generation and is very refined inside and out. I do not like the inter of the current generation for all reasons mentioned. The 2023 interior is awesome and definitely one I would purchase. The exterior sides and rear on the 2023 is disappointing. It’s too generic, it’s lost its unique RX identity in translation. The back story here appears Lexus is using less trim parts and incorporating part commonality with other Lexus models.

I have been doing comparisons by images and I totally missed the gear shift being so large and the ugly amount of temp control buttons with CD player on the the 2022 model. It is a big / huge difference in my opinion between old style and new style. We have always purchased our Lexus vehicles about 2-3 years used (35,000 miles or under) but in this case, it is really hard to buy the older style with such dramatic improvements. One thing I really like you pointed out as well is the back has a continuous tail light bar across the back where the older model where it just has a chrome bar. This was a great video. Thank you.

Why is almost everyone going the route of putting all controls on the touch screen? People in their focus groups actually ask for that? Is that just with the upgraded 14" infotainment, or will that be on all trims/options?

Ok, the new-gen RX comes in four favors (RX350, RX350h, RX450h+, and RX500h F Sport Performance), 3 RAV4s and 1 Lexus, the only available FWD model is the RX350, all others are AWD, seriously, we all knew the new-gen RX would share engines with the NX and RAV4, the RX350 or the RX500h F Sport Performance (note, it makes 367 hp / 406 tq) seems to be the two to get, the RX350h and RX450h+ will be interesting, that engine setup works fine in a compact CUV, but a midsize CUV (guess we will all find out), should I assume these will be the same engine for the upcoming TX as well, it's a nice new-gen, RX buyers will love it, kind of how Jeep Grand Cherokee buyers love their GCs, and the problem is that 2-row Jeep GC is nice as H___ and soon to have that new turbo 3.0 I6 Hurricane engine, the GC will continue to own the midsize 2-row SUV segment
