7 Problems With The 2023 Lexus RX That You Must Know About NOW!
The Lexus RX has long remained a great choice for buyers in the market looking for a well-appointed luxury SUV, especially one focused more on comfort than performance. But as the RX model from Lexus is generally regarded as a reliable SUV, it’s far from perfect, and car experts have pointed out features that should be noted. Keep watching this video to find out what they are…
Missing the V-6
With the sweet V-6 engine no longer available, the available hybrid powertrain is now your best option in the 2023 RX engine lineup. Combining a 2.5-liter gas engine with an electric motor for a system total of 246 horsepower, the hybrid feels notably more responsive than the base turbo four-cylinder, and is nearly as quick. Better still is an estimated improvement in combined fuel economy of 12 mpg compared to the base engine.
The world is changing, so we understand the logic behind Lexus joining its competitors in going for a greener turbo four-cylinder engine in place of the old V-6 for better fuel economy and lower emissions. In this case, however, the switch takes away one of the best qualities about the RX, replacing a smooth, refined powertrain with a coarse-sounding turbo 2.4-liter four-cylinder. What’s worse is that the power delivery is inconsistent, with noticeable acceleration lag, unlike the more linear delivery experienced from previous V6 models..
Ride Stability
Being a bigger SUV, the body roll is noticeable but not alarming. It’s never going to ride like a McLaren or Lotus, but you will feel some bouncing on the offset ups and downs, but at the same time not enough to feel queasy. Its softness carries over to the brakes, which seem to have a spongy pedal with lots of travel. It certainly doesn't encourage sporty driving like a BMW X5 does, and it feels heavy and ponderous by comparison.
Fuel Economy Hasn’t Improved Much…
The front-wheel-drive of the all new 2023 Lexus RX is estimated to return 25 mpg in the city as well as highway driving along with 24 mpg with all-wheel drive. Now that's an improvement of 1 mpg over last year's V6. The RX 350h hybrid will see much more significant gains and is said to be at 36 mpg combined, which is an improvement of 6 mpg from its predecessor and it is most likely the most fuel-efficient midsize SUV on the market for 2023. But not all the data is in yet. Also, the RX 500h is rated at a very respectable 27 mpg combined.
While the new four-cylinder does save fuel compared to the old V-6, it’s not all that much. The 1 or 2 mpg increase in combined fuel economy is certainly welcomed overall, but is the small difference worth the loss of the V6 engine? It’s likely many Lexus buyers would think not.
Aggressive Driver Monitoring
The 2023 RX features the new Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite. This includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, motorcycle detection, and intersection support. It also has lane departure alert with steering assist and all-speed adaptive cruise control with curve speed management. The available Advanced Park feature on the 2023 Lexus RX provides automated assistance with parallel parking, backup parking, and forward-facing parking.
The available driver monitor system is designed to make sure drivers stay alert and sound an alarm if it detects behavior that could indicate trouble. It’s a great feature on paper, but many car experts found the one featured in the 2023 Lexus RX to be overly aggressive, beeping and sounding alerts even when we were alert and paying attention. This could certainly detract from the peaceful driving experience that Lexus are known to offer.
Interior Issues
The old RX's interior was nice enough, but some materials needed to match the quality of others. The redesigned model makes the overall quality more consistent, and everything you see and touch has an upscale feel. A nice detail in the new cabin is available suede door panel inserts, which create a unique look and are standard on upper trims.
A longer wheelbase is said to make for a roomier cabin, but that might depend on who you ask and how the RX is equipped. The redesign slightly lowers overall height, combined with an available panoramic moonroof that can intrude on headroom for rear-seat passengers. Taller folks in the back might find they have to recline the seat backs to avoid making contact with the roof.
Moreover, loading a car seat into the second row of the RX should be easy thanks to easily reachable anchor points and the individually reclining rear seatbacks, but its not. The door pockets, front and rear, are large but aren't lined with felt, and so smaller items rattle around.
Overall, the Lexus RX is a brilliant car.

We bought the 2023 RX350 Luxury. This is such a useless review. 4 cylinder is fine, 0 false alarms on them, interior is amazing, safety features are great, we're getting 25mpg in the city (non hybrid) and averaged 32mpg on the hwy. Towing, lol. Everyone knows, you buy this for toyota reliability, luxury, and the ability to have a vehicle that will outlast its competitors. Ive owned German cars for years, and the minute they hit 40-60k miles, get ready for a ton of maintenance randomly popping up. Lexus, all day

I pulled up next to someone with the new RX. I drive the 2016 RX. I had a chance to ask him about his impressions while his lady was getting drinks. He was not thrilled. He said the car sounds like plastic and feels the same. The trim he had was very nice with lots of options from what I saw. Looked beautiful. But for someone with such a nice car to be so disappointed after driving the 2019 RX, says a lot to me. He did not look like he was happy with his purchase and said twice that he wanted to go back to the 2019 if he could.

I am in the process of a manufacture buy back. I purchased a RX 500h F Sport in March. I live in Va and had to go to Philadelphia to get this car. I drove it back, no problems.... Three days later it started throwing codes about hybrid malfunctions. Took it to the local dealer, they had it for 3 days and said they said they called Lexus and they couldn't find the issue. They cleared it and returned to me. 12 days later, I was driving down I-95, the car lost ALOT of power, and it threw 6 different codes. I pulled off to then side of the highway got it towed to the same dealership.... 4 days later I got a TEXT telling me the car needed a completely new transmission. I filed a lemon dispute on the car. Lexus just agreed to buy back the car and will replace with a new one. Its been a nightmare. A $75k nightmare!!

One major problem with this new generation RX for those who live in area who has winter is that the design of the front doors goes way below the floor of the car and it's collect all debris from the road. The result is during winter the inside of the doors at the bottom (the huge portion that goes under the floor) is full with snow, ice, calcium, sands. Absolutely terrible it looks awful when you open the doors to go in the car. We hated that on our RX 2023.

The 4 is faster and lighter than the v6. I find it funny that people want loud exhaust but are bothered by a slightly louder engine than the v6. All the alerters are not as bad as they say. It does not go off as much as people say unless they are actually bad drivers. Front grill is so much better than the older models. I don't get grills that actual make there way up on to the hood of the car, that to me looks ugly. I find also the car is not under powered with 275 hp. The power is there when you need it. Best of all the car is actually reliable. Which is more than I can say for all the other cars like Porsche, BMW, Mercedes.. Those cars may be fun to drive but you will continue to pay for that fun over and over again...

I had that car (450+ model) for couple days an strongly disagree with most things. Power is more than enough, it weights ~2200kg/4850lbs and it feels like compact car to drive, very agile. Super confy, fuel consumption in my case was outside city ~29-30MPG / 7.5-8.0L/100km. And only thing that was truly annoying was that beeping system saying that driver is not keeping attention. Stupid and bad system. But sides of that it was great in all aspects. If you are looking for a fast and sporty SUV then look for something else, RX500 is quick but still not so quick and pleasent i fast driving like bmw M60i xDrive. But it make no sense to compare RX to X5 two different worlds, X5 sucks at bumpy road even with adaptive suspension while RX was great at it.

2023 RX350 Luxury at 4,000 miles. $2500, for windshield replacement, is a bit of a shock and the front dash separation is a surprise as well. Almost had an accident, due to turbo lag and the need for premium fuel drains your wallet quickly. The ride is stable and would be quiet, if not for the cacophony of warning bells and buzzers, which turn a quiet drive into a thing of the past. The car almost drives itself between the white lines, but the auto braking from guard rails around curves and when approaching traffic is really annoying. Also, the Mark Levinson sound system seems highly overrated for the extra coin, and so far doesn't meet my expectations of a surround sound environment. Don't get me started on all of the steering wheel buttons and functions which are near impossible to operate in traffic.

What a bunch of low information whiners, first off, the new 2023 is premium fuel recommended/ not required. Take some time and learn that this just means that with premium you will get better gas mileage as always, no matter a v6 or turbo 4. Also this particular turbo 4 is both direct and port injected so the valves won’t have carbon buildup like all the euro competition. Also the torque has been increased, meaning the actual power one feels is substantially higher then in previous RX models. Lexus and Toyota engineers are extremely smart with their vehicles especially the #1 selling midsize luxury crossover that has ever been sold. They have literally wiped everyone else out when it comes to knowing what customers want and how to deliver that product. Even if this comes as a bit of a surprise Audi, BMW,Mercedes, and yes Cadillac have all been trying to find their own RX and have failed for 25 years and running. All they build is something that looks good today and breaks tomorrow!!! If that’s your ticket, by all means get one of their P.O.S. I’ll stick with Lexus, they have the finest, most well built, durable and reliable lineup ever assembled in automotive history. Best of Luck in Your Endeavors

I hated 4 cyl engines. They were rough idling, vibration producing machines with never enough power. I bought a 2023 Lexus RX350 Luxury 2.4L Turbo and have been truly enjoying this SUV. It has everything you could ever want in a car, Luxury is exactly what you get. It has plenty of low end torque, and the transmission is like butter. Will I win the Daytona 500 with it, No but I don't care. For the folks that bought the 2022 RX, I think you are missing out on a generational leap forward in technology and refinement.

My sister had a a wreck with a lady on the wrong side of the road on a bridge . Her truck was totaled . We sold her our hs250h Lexus with 90,000 miles . That way with the money she had left from the settlement she could have some money left over for a couple of house payments as she healed . We still had our 2010 Lexus RX 350 which replace our 2008 Lexus 400 H which had been rear ended and we no more than got it back from the body shop and it drowned in a flash flood in the garage of all places . Our 2010 RX has 140,000 miles on it but is just like new . Later on we needed a second cat do to travel for work . At the end of the model year we saw Lexus had a new 2019 RX Lexus Sport model ! After telling the people at Lexus what all that had happened to us the people at Lexus worked out a deal with us since we had been Lexus customers since 1999 . Making a long short our first Lexus was destroyed within the first week of purchase . A man was spinning in the middle of the road with a restored Jaguar and ran us into a concrete wall . It saved our lives after 10,000.00 in damage . We are like several other people however . We did not really care for Lexus 4 cylinder . Lexus has a nice vehicle in the RX . However Lexus needs to let we the customers decide on which engine to purchase . It’s a big “ No” on the 4 cylinder ! So we may switch to a different brand next time ! In Germany I drove BMW’s X 3 on the autobahn with a 6 cylinder clean burning diesel . No diesel smell , no diesel noise . And that diesel BMW V6 was bad ass fast !!! I averaged 220 km . Purred like a big going for a meal !

This video does a good job explaining some of the issue. Something that is also important is the shifter. It is irritating. You move it forward to go in reverse and move in backwards to go forward. On top of that, if you are like me, and drive a manual also, you tend to keep your hand on the shifter. This is not a good idea with this car. On at least 3 occasions, I had to pull into heavy traffic while making a right turn doing it. In the process, the centrifugal force caused my right hand, which was resting on the shifter, to slightly pull the shifter to the left (just from the weight of my hand resting on the shifter). The car immediately went into Neutral, coz, well, to go into neutral you just pull the shifter to the left. Anyway, in doing so, the engine would rev up really high coz I was out of gear. Traffic is bearing down on me, and I tried to get it back into to drive, but NOOOOOO, it isn't that simple. I had to literally press the break to put the damn car back in drive. This nearly caused me to have an accident. A terrible design. Another driver I know with the same car was rear ended in the car wash, because she could not get the car back in dirve from neutral at the end of the wash, and the car behind her slammed into the back of her Lexus. Another issue is related to Park. If you put the car in Park, while pressing the break, you cannot put the car in Drive, until you take your foot off the break and repress it. I've also noticed that the brake pedal feel is terrible, nothing like it feels on other cars. I noticed if I am not careful, even after I stop at a stop light, the car will suddenly start drifting forward making me have to press the break pedal down even harder. Absolutely terrible. And, of course, when you push the pedal down more, the eco feature that turns the motor off kicks in (which BTW I'd like to permanently disable, but can't seem to). Having to pay for premium fuel is a downer as well. The Lexus service department told me I could use regular unleaded, but what sort of problems will that cause in the long run? I'm sure they would be glad to fix any problems that might occur. The turbo charged 2.5L also sucks. It is noisy, sounds just like my Toyota Rav4, which also has the 2.5L engine. Imagine that. Not what you would expect from a Luxury car. It does lag on acceleration as well. I just leave the car in Sport mode. I would have rather had the V6. The over aggressive safety features are an irritation, making the drive experience suck. I hate the car and wish I'd never bought it.

Didn’t plan to step away from my RX. The end of lease was coming up and planned on leasing another. Hello 2024 NX 350H. If I’m going to have a 4 cylinder engine, the smaller, lighter NX is enough, almost. Love the drive, ride and handling but smaller interior is too small. My sunglasses can’t fit in the sunglasses holder. The sun visor barely blocks the morning sun heading east. The wipers are too short, a good part of the windows, not touched. Fewer usb ports and none in the center console. In the RX wires were hidden. I should have bought my leased RX? Too soon to say but the 2023 RX was not an option.

no, the vid is clearly nitpicking these things. New one with hybrid powertrain's mpg is better than the V6 for sure. Hybrid has instant electric torque and smoother ride and waaay better mpg on the long run. The V6's fuel economy is the one that doesnt perform like on paper. Few years later, it only get about 18 mpg average. If you're hypermiling, then it's 20mpg. @@joelthorne7434 I would highly recommend you educating yourself on how a turbo works before posting. Firstly, turbos do not feed already burnt exhaust fumes back into the engine, instead they utilise the momentum of the CO2 in the exhaust manifolds to spin a fan (the turbo). This fan is connected to another fan on the other side of the turbo (separated from each other), which forces clean, outside air into the engine, so CO2 will not re enter the engine. Secondly, while you are partially correct, high psi turbos do indeed cause significant stress to the engine, but those are mainly used in either diesels or high performance vehicles. Youll find the turbo in the lexus RX to be a low PSI running one, so there is significantly less stress on the engine. Hope this helps for clarification.

The more I see this thing, the more I want to trade in my 2022 for it. I like my 2022. It’s VERY smooth. But the seats are NOT comfortable and that’s my biggest regret with it. Also, fuel economy isn’t great… I never even average 20 mpg… V6 is a fucking gas hog…

I have the 2024 500H. I recently traded in my 2022 Range Rover Sport HST for it. My Range was a supercharged V6 with about 395HP. My 500H has 367HP but feels just as fast as the Range, except a lot smoother and planted. I get about 27mpg in the Lexus. Loving it so far!… I don’t miss that old V6 one bit

Been driving my 2024 RX350H for about a month now, love it. My 2018 RX350 was very nice but the 2024 is much more refined. The only thing that bugs me is the HUD and driver alert crap.

Very glad we purchased a 2022 luxury edition, We love the old school interior and the smooth V6 engine. I think long term reliability with the 4 cylinder turbo with or without the battery and the electronic door handles will no way be as reliable as the old model.
