That elbow detail is everything, that blew my mind. I'd love to visit JJ's academy one day

I can't like this video enough - escaping bottom side control has always been my achilles heel...

True mastery shows simple solutions to most problems. It's like "you forgot this from the foundations on white belt level".

The best thing to do is lay there and jist wait for your opponent on top to make a move/transition and then escape.

Can someone please explain what he is referring to when he says "front door"and "back door"? I am guessing one of those refers to the elbow that is blocking the hip, but I am not sure about the other one
@p3r1n1 Жыл бұрын
I think it's not about this escape only, but everything in BJJ. When you try something and your opponent defends, he will make other openings available. Your game is to recognize how to "hedge" every move, both in terms of you exposing yourself, or the opponent doing it. In this case, if your opponent releases his elbow from your hip to go north south, he will expose his neck. If he does not, you can bridge and escape, or rest. Thinking in terms of chains of movements, feints and threats to open options is the deeper level of the BJJ. Much like 3d, full body chess

The problem is not the videos, the problem is finding a training partner that's willing to watch all of them with you and repeating it over and over again, until it becomes a second nature.

yet another example of a demo where the guy holding side control isn't even doing the proper hold like in a roll. these demos are ridiculous. the guy doesn't even have his fkn hands linked when holding this which a white belt will do with only one week of training making this entire escape useless.

Kind of shocking that a brown belt can't properly perform a basic side control escape. He didn't even listen. As soon as they went around 2:13 he just spazzes and tries to push to get out. Did the opposite of what Machado said.
