Nates Custom Boats and Accessories we nice enough to bring us to Illinois and custom fabricate a giant hunt deck and side mount float pods for this boat. Follow along as we show you how Nate and the good folks at Nates Custom Boats built these side mount float pods and hunt deck, and Send It Jon Boats give them a speed test on the water! As always don't forget to stick around to the end of the video for the haters corner and lot's of funny bloopers!

That was fun to watch. I'm wondering if those side pods would work if you raked them upwards in the front. Also, have you done a video on that grab bar? (Installation etc.) I had never heard of Haterade, but it's my new favorite. I have a hemorrhoid named Scooter . . .

It's probably a stupid question I'm just wandering if you would put a long shaft outboard on a flat bottom with the side pods on would you experience the same issue taking on water I know you would have to do more modification and I do apologize for asking a question on something you built a year ago I have a 14 flat bottom I'm thinking about making it wider and putting float pods on

Putting foam does not make the boat float any better, it just helps the boat stay afloat if it takes on water.

SMH .... if you wanted a 1236 trade the 1036 off. if you wanted a 1254 cut that SOB in 1/2 and add 18" in the middle. its even easier to build. just know that those tiny hulls are only like .080 thick at best and will open up like a tuna can if you hit anything solid. good luck.

Try taking the front of the side pods and carve them upwards like the front of boat not to the side. It will create another planning surface and keep the water going down and under the side pods and yes cut the tails off.

Already cut the tails off, ran it and it helped a lot. Going to do exactly like you and others have suggested and run them further forward and under cut so they force water under the boat.

Agree with an angled bottom tapering upward on the bottom of the side pods. Thinking of giving the water a path to get past the boat without a sudden squared off hard edge. It is harder to fab, but fluid dynamics are important.

After watching your video. I saw you had the right idea. Instead of side pontoons being an extension of the boat's rear sponson. Try moving the side pontoons, you made up to the mid of the boat. Then stretch the height up to match the Gunwhale. Then straight down to match the bottom natural angle or waterline. Whichever you prefer. You will find you don't need more than 2 feet long to greatly increase the stability. if you put an angled draft in the front of each pontoon to meet the boat. You will find there will be a lot less haul drag. Plus the location makes a great place to add a fishing pole side rack holder.

I'm a welder fabricator in the Florida area that's been doing modifications to small boats for 40 plus years, the front of your pods are shaped improperly the front of the pods should match the shape of the front and the bottom of the Jon boat. Do not taper them outward, you're scooping water which slows the boat down and makes the rear of the boat dig in. By reshaping the front of the pods properly you're actually gaining planning surface in the boat should go actually faster. On your mud drive you need to put a horizontal plane on it just in front of the prop so that when the boat is moving along the horizontal plane will operate parallel to the surface and keep the prop buried in the water you may have to experiment with different sizes. The horizontal plane is not parallel to the shaft, the back edge of it should actually be tilted up so it's acting like a dive plane on a sub. Add a bendable trim tab to the skeg below the mud drive unit and bend it so that at full power it matches the torque that the engine is producing.

Just a thought... What if you put the pods on the sides in the front of the boat, that way you get stability when sitting still or trolling fishing and when you get going up on plane they would be out of the water not causing any negative effects.

@@SendItJonBoats …I totally get what you’re doing and I know they sell those add on stuff….I live on an island and I’ve seen the craziest mods to dingy’s and larger boats …if you got the resources try out a RIB concept where at idle the flotation at rear would totally stabilize and at plane would bring the floatation out of the water for speed …best of both worlds !… and make it out of alum….( I don’t care for a ballon that can puncture )…engineered properly would be a game changer!!!

That has been tried before, it does not give it any extra floatation. The foam will only help if the pods take on water to keep it floating in stead of sinking,

Simply find the buoyancy force for the entire object (in other words, use its entire volume as Vs), then find the force of gravity pushing it down with the equation G = (mass of object)(9.81 meters/second2). If the force of buoyancy is greater than the force of gravity, the object will float.
