Side Sleeping Shoulder Pain and how I Found a Simple Cure. Being a side sleeper, it has taken a toll on my shoulders for some reason. I don't remember it being a problem when I was younger but now it is. I have had a lot of pain in the mornings when I wake up. I figured a cure quite by accident.
My pillow wedge on Amazon, linktw.in/IwvoVf
I was a snorer and it kept my wife awake at night. I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I tried the CPAP Machine and just couldn't do it. I turned the machine back in after 2 nights. She suggested I try a pillow wedge and amazingly, it cured by snoring by 95%. Almost instantly. It was a miracle. The pillow wedge also led me to a solution to fix my aching shoulders when I slept. In this video I will show you how I cured my Sleep Apnea and fixed my side sleeping shouler pain when side sleeping. If you are not healthy and don't feel good, it's hard to go on adventures and have a lot of physical activity. The pillow wedge is so simple but has provided amazing results for me to quit snoring and fix my shoulder pain.

I bought a pillow specially made like this. Only problem is you start getting lower back pain from the slant. Preferably you need a wedge the length of your body and same technique just raising your whole body not a slant where it puts strain on your hips and low back

You’re more of a doctor than any chiro! This pillow method looks amazing and I can’t wait to try it out. I have suffered from sleep apnea and shoulder pain for years. I couldn’t do a c-pap without drugs to knock me out which I’d rather avoid. I really appreciate you sharing this information. Sleep apnea is a silent killer and many of us can’t do c-pap.

I have sleep apnea but I couldn't wear the cpap either. Wore it 2 nights I think and said nope. The wedge pillow was a cure for me. If you try this and it works, I'd recommend that you also lift some barbells for shoulder strengthening and pushups. You have to strengthen your shoulders. Good luck.

Nice idea Steve and kudos to you for being proactive about your shoulder pain, sleep, and quality of life. Side sleeping can definitely wreak havoc on a number of joints and muscles surrounding the shoulders, neck, and arms as well as the clavicle and thoracic spine. I have discovered this through my own problems with being a side sleeper for many years and I have been exploring ways to correct these issues. Thanks for the video and I hope you find relief moving forward.

Predominantly a side sleeper also, and had shoulder and hip aches years ago. Found the problem was the typical inner-spring mattress we had. Invested in a Serta iComfort Savant matress, and the aches disappeared. Once that problem was solved, I took notice of some neck aches from sleeping, which was due to the pillow. Took the plunge and bought a My Pillow. No more neck aches, and wish I would have purchased one sooner, but balked at the price. They're well worth the cost, imo. Noted the Bamboo logo in the video, and recently stayed at my BIL's house a couple of nights, and they have Bamboo brand pilliws, which are also good for neck support.

I've had the same idea. Wow I have a foam mattress, and thought about cutting it but if it didn't work. I'd be out of the only relief I found. I wonder why this hasn't come out in products. I have also been thinking about a water type, but like floating in it. Just trying to figure out some things. Maybe gel balls, maybe like a ball pit but for sleep. But because you have tried the arm tunnel, I will definitely try that first. Thank you. It's nice to know someone else is thinking like I am. It Lets me know I'm going in the right direction. Please keep me abreast of your situation. Thank you for your experimenting too.

So, what people are trying to create is a "pocket" where their entire shoulder and arm can rest into while lying on either side. Two long and wide memory foam pieces should do the trick. Cut according to width of bed, about 12 inches thick for the headrest. Then the remainder for support of torso be same width as bed, 12 inches thick, and the length to hips, curving down gradually; or to the feet.

I tried something similar a few years ago with a box and shifting the mattress down 8" or so relative to the box spring to create that gap. It did alleviate the shoulder pain, but I started experiencing neck pain after a few weeks of it.

This Sucks! I've never had shoulder pain in my entire life until buying a new mattress. I exchanged the first firm model for a 'softer' model after experiencing the torture. Over $2000 spent and now I still have intense shoulder pain that prevents me from falling asleep! You cannot detect it from briefly lying on the mattress in a store. You need to actually try to sleep for the pain to set-in. I'm 32, 5'11, 170 pound average guy with slightly broad shoulders (like a swimmer's build) and I've never injured my shoulders at all... but this brand new posturepedic mattress does!!! Feels like my shoulder is pulled out of socket or impinged or something. It's painful to move my arms in the morning and they go numb and tingly from lack of circulation. I actually have a lumbar injury (L4-L5) and my old bed was sagging in the middle and creating some lower back pain and discomfort so I replaced it. Now I'm broke, can't sleep at all and want my old beat up mattress back! What's crazy is that sleeping directly on the floor, although painful, doesn't create the kind of shoulder pain my new $2000 mattress does! Crazy right? I'm probably less than half your age and if I didn't know any better I'd swear that I have a torn rotator cuff! *But I don't* (yet anyway). I'm going to try to rig something together and see if it helps... if that doesn't work, I'll look into getting a nice wedge when it becomes available on Amazon again. I think this problem is actually WAY more common than either of us know. Something happened in the mattress industry since I was kid, I've noticed... inflation and lower quality construction is pretty apparent.

So, from what I’ve heard, shoulder pain can be caused by a heavy head which would make sense in your case. The average male brain weighs in at approximately 3 lbs, but a superior brain has to be much heavier. Just something to think about

Cheers for the video content! Sorry for chiming in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you thought about - Vaniam Tonatthew Formula (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a good one of a kind guide for getting rid of your rotator cuff pain without the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my good mate called Gray at very last got cool results with it.

Do you a link to the second wedge that goes between the headrest
@myadventureoutdoors
@myadventureoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Any similar wedge will do just fine. I'd buy a cheap one. The most important one is the one on the bed that you lay on.

Where do you get the second wedge that goes under your head? Link only shows the big one.
@myadventureoutdoors
@myadventureoutdoors 10 ай бұрын
Just use the same wedge twice. You want the width of both wedges to match if possible.

Steve, is the foam wedge still working long-term to deal with the shoulder pain? I'm looking for a solution and ran into your video. Just wondering if it worked long-term as sometimes things only work for a short time or we find them unusable in the long run. Please let me know. Thank you for making this video.

I had been using it pretty long when I made the video and it really worked well. Since then, I have worked on strengthening my shoulders with simple barbell exercises. Strong shoulders are part of the cure.

medcline is not available in Europe. What alternative product do you recommend for obese side sleepers with GERD / Sleep apnea who suffer from shoulder and neck pain?

Will that not strain your neck? I've been a side sleeper all my life and been suffering from neck and shoulder pain and feel numbness in my upper arm a lot. It is so annoying.

I always use a pillow and I just adjust it so I have no neck strain. Every now and then I might wake up with a little strain but not very often.

How long have you been using these? How have the pillows held up?
@myadventureoutdoors

Several years. The wedge pillows are almost as good as the day I recieved them. After so long they break in a small amount and are not as firm but for me they are perfect. They will last years.

Great info! I'm curious though, so you sleep on your side half elevated? So your legs are straight on your bed but your body inclines from your waist up as your laying on the wedge correct? I'm picturing this body posture to not be comfortable. But I have not tried it and am curious as I have bad shoulder pain from side sleeping.
@myadventureoutdoors
@myadventureoutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Elevated from the waist to head. It's a gradual incline. It's something that you have to get used to. Probably took me 2 weeks to totally get used to the change. I don't know another way to relieve the pressure from your shoulder when sleeping. I would also say to look at getting a small 20 - 25lb barbell and do some curls and tricep curls daily. As you strengthen your shoulder area, the pain will also lessen. It did for me.
