@@gerrybhoy1363 well I really got tired of suffocating and snoring really loud every night and my wife even said that I would stopped breathing for more than a minute. And I'm really fed up sleeping for 8 hrs and waking up in the morning still very light headed and sleepy. I wanted to change my life so I managed to wear my CPAP every night and I have no problem with it from day 1 when I got my machine. I look at this way..I rather have a air hose when I'm sleeping at night than snoring and suffocating. The cpap machine made my lungs stronger and now I can run longer distance. i have been so exhausted the past 2-3 years, with a deep desire to sleep all day. I would just start to doze anytime I’d sit still to read or do any work. All of my blood tests showed normal hormones, nothing going on with my thyroid or anything else. FINALLY, I decided to talk with a sleep doctor. I did a sleep study and I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea at 53 events per hour. I could cry having finally figured out what the problem was!! I couldn’t get my CPAP device soon enough. I am so incredibly thankful for this life saving therapy!!!! I have used my machine for just one week and I have already noticed a difference!! I actually look forward to sleeping now too! (Because I know I am gradually getting back my health, so I can be around for my sons.) ❤️

I am newly diagnosed. I am 39 and suffered for my whole life with snoring and tiredness. Last night was night 2 on the cpap machine I got 4.6 ahi from 21.5 of sleep test. This is life changing. When I used cpap it was instant relief. Day 2 I am feeling so good best I have felt in many years.

I have just been diagnosed with sever sleep apnea, put it this way, on the apnea hypopnea index one of my reading was 112/hr , my blood oxygen level got down to a nadir saturation of 69% & a sleep efficiency of 53%, now I didn't know what most of that meant, but I was immediately sent to a sleep study place & sent home with a CPAP machine so they can study me remotely. I am not very keen on having a nose/mouth mask hooked up to me every night as I can't stand anything around my face when I'm sleeping so still struggling with that one. But, finding videos & comments like this from long time sufferers is changing my mind, so thank you all for that, cheers.

@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Evelyn, glad you enjoyed the video. 11 or 12 is probably the amount of apneas and hypopnes you're having per hour. They call this value the AHI. I probably wouldn't worry too much about your mild sleep apnea unless you're feeling really flat and tired during the day :-). The condition can get worse over time though so just go with what your body is telling you. If you're feeling really run down then might be time to trial cpap therapy to see how it makes you feel. Best wishes and thanks for your comment. Nick

Great vid and I fully agree with the weight loss advise after using my APAP for about 5 years every night I decided to loose weight I lost a 140 lbs in a year and it was life changing with Apnea treatment. The pressure my machine works at is so much lower which makes such a difference to your compliance. I use a nasal pillow mask with a mouth piece to keep it in place with virtually no leakage I am somewhat of a veteran with over 20,000 hrs recorded on my trusty machine but of all the things I have tried to improve compliance big weight loss is by far the best thing you can do for yourself. And never give up the last 8000 hours since the weight loss have been a breeze good luck fellow sufferers.

Nick, I've gone without sleep apnea diagnosis from when I was a child; back when I was a kid I was very active all the way through high-school and I was diagnosed with OSA in my early 30's, I was stillvery active and I am a big man, (not in the overweight side, but the muscular side). My first doctor said my problem is my throat and the muscle structure is "heavy" around my throat. I am now in my mid 50's

The sleep study showed 36.4 events p/h ranging from 28 seconds to 145 seconds, with sats at 63%. I couldn't hold my breath for that long if I tried, it was quite a shock. Diagnosed as severe apnea. I bought all the equipment on the spot and have convinced myself I like my machine, even though i've had a vertigo attack lasting nearly 2 weeks after the second night on the machine. It's much improved now and I'm getting used to be hooked up. Hopefully it will help with the weight, blood pressure, inflammation and all the other fun things a stressed out body holds onto.

I have severe sleep apnea Probably went close to 5 or 6 years not knowing I had it But in those 5 years I ruined my life Got depression Stopped paying bills Sex life was terrible My wife kept telling me I would stop breathing But I wouldn’t go to the doctor. It wasn’t till I started falling asleep behind the wheel way to often And I had way to many close calls I didn’t really care anymore tho Death was the easy way out. But then I finally went for a sleepy study And yup I would stop breathing about 90 times Once I started using a Cpap My life changed!! Much more happier But I still have to deal with the crap I ruined. Erections came back after a few weeks on the cpap :)

Pretty crazy that sleep apnea affects so many people... You would think it would be a medical crisis but a lot of people disregard it. What's interesting is that there are treatments that are not the CPAP machine. There are some companies such as Zephyr Sleep Technologies that have a cool machine that dentists can give to you to see if you can just get one of these "mouth guard" type fixtures that can treat mild-moderate sleep apnea.

I thought I only had sleep apnea half of the time so I was worried that if I got tested I would get a false negative. But no, I felt like I slept fine during the test but still had mild apnea. So if you're on the fence about getting tested, just get it done. At least do a take home test. That's my 2 cents anyway.

My partner normally sleeps on her back. She is trying to change that habit also with my help if I wake up seeing that she is on her back. She has tried a couple of different masks with the positive airway pressure machine and gave up as when she rolls over during her sleep the masks slips from it's original sealed position allowing air to blow out across her face and waking her and sometimes myself up due to the noise of the air escaping. We tightened the mask up to try and prevent the mask from slipping, but after several attempts and the mask feeling too tight, she has given up on this type of therapy.

Oh, and it seems my jaw relaxes open often once I'm asleep, which sleep doesn't last long because when that happens (of course) my gear freaks out and makes a bunch of noise and I can't breathe properly. I imagine this happens to lots of people. I've read/heard about mouth tape and some kind of jaw strap to use for this issue. What do you recommend? Thanks again.

Hmm everytime I see myself closing my mouth it feels like I can’t breathe not really sure why, like I could breathe from my nose prefectly, but when closing my mouth it feels like I can’t breathe properly. I also have a really dry throat and its hard for me to get some sleep since i start going into panic mode when I close mouth since I feel the sensation of not breathing normally, and start getting worse when I focus to much about it. I also get these wierd choking sensation at times, and at times it’s hard for me to swallow. Its really frustrating and scares me a lot. Can someone please inform me if this has to due with sleep apnea, as the symptoms for sleep apnea sort of fall into how i feel throught the day regardless if its night or day time. Thank you!

I have an AirFit N20 mask. The end of the hose that snaps into the headgear-nose cradle(?) has a vent in the front. Throughout the treatment air blows out of this vent. Is that how it should be? Somewhere I read/heard that there should be a complete seal around the nose, but this doesn't feel like a complete seal if air is constantly blowing out of it. Also, I appreciate your expertise and equanimity of your presentations. Just facts, common sense, and opinions, no drama. Thanks.

Good information about the various types of machines. A while back I watched another vid of yours about the "half" mask, and got the ok to try it. In the office I was perfectly fine with the mask under my nose, but, when I got home and hooked it up to my machine, I felt like I was smothering because I was having a hard time breathing out against the pressure that was directly under my nose! Needless to say, I went back to using my full mask. My current machine is over 7 years old, and, after watching this, I think I might inquire about getting an APAP machine. Do you think it would help alleviate the extremely dry mouth I wake up with in the morning? On a side note, whenever I have a medical procedure that requires me to have anesthesia (such as a biopsy or my pacemaker), I bring the machine with me and use it while I'm under. I tell the medical staff that I know I will be given O2, BUT, it won't do me any good if it can't get to my lungs! They usually don't have a problem with me using it. :D

Hi Mate, glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah the masks are always a bit tricky and it can be sometimes a bit hit and miss for many people. Regarding the machine. If you are upgrading, i would definitely get an AUTO. I don't recommend FIXED PRESSURE to anyone. Will it help with your dry mouth....Hmmm, possibly. It will most likely run at an average 20-30% less pressure than your fixed unit which will help to a degree. There's a mouth wash a lot of customers tell me about called Biotene www.biotene.com which might help. Also just make sure you preheat your humidifier water and run the humidity high of a night. The other option you could try is some mouth strips like somnifix bit.ly/2HV1Sdb. Have a great day

@@CPAPReviews Thanks for your response and suggestions. However, I will not allow any products in my house that contain xylitol because it is very toxic to dogs- so Biotene is not an option. And, unfortunately, I have several contra-indications against the Somnifix strips. So it looks like my best bet is to see if I can switch to an APAP. Thanks again.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea that was very bad. however, even with Cpap, which docs promised would give me back energy, help me lose weight, etc, well it did NOT. what did give me back my life and stop the sleep apnea, was to take Hormone replacement therapy, including thyroid (natural dessicated.) there's a huge relationship between low thyroid, low hormones and apnea. Now I dont have it. I sold my machine. I dont snore, I sleep great, thanks to hormones. I know there are some folks, such as my sister, that nothing helps their apnea, she even had laser throat surgery and it didnt help! and I know another family member had to have a tracheo hole cut in her throat so she doesnt die in her sleep! ridiculous! as we age, our muscles in our throat and sinuses get very LAX, we need hormone replacement to firm things up, and I promise this will help !

Im thinking i may have it. On top of that i also have a deviated symptom too so its a double wammy. I want to get a test but i am soooo embarrassed because im only 25 and i feel like im too young to be hooked up to a machine to sleep. But its effecting my life and my work because the past few years i have been real cloudy and forgetful and tired all the time and im a construction manager so i need to be sharp and awake and motivated but i just cant get in that mindset anymore. It causes me to make alot of mistakes. I dont even want to tell my family because im so embarrassed and i dont want my fiancé to have to sleep with me with a big noisy machine going all night. Part of me thinks my deviated symptom is most of the causes but im a bit over weight too so that’s probably the real cause. If i do get a test it will suck because i dont have insurance so im gonna have to pay it all out of pocket

I have been experiencing drops in oxygen when I fall asleep. Went to the ER last night after waking up gasping for air and with a 73% on my oximeter. Tightness of chest. Once I got there my vitals, EKG, and blood tests were normal, though my blood pressure clearly high. I was told that what I experienced was not an emergency, possibly sleep apnea and that people live with this for years. Are you kidding me? Not an emergency? I was hoping they sent me home with oxygen. Instead was referred to a sleep study until 2 weeks from now. I don't snore and feel shortness of breath during the day. I am now scared to go to sleep. Literally terrified to fall asleep.😭😞Any tips to help me with these episodes would be much appreciated.

Hi Troy, 13 events per hour is actually pretty mild mate so there's probably some other alternatives to cpap therapy available for you if cpap doesn't work out. I advise all my patients to start with a nasal or nasal pillow for the first 2-4 weeks and only change to a full face masks if they can't get use to it. If you're just starting out, the therapy will get easier over time and you will find you get use to wearing the mask with a little persistence. All the best. Nick :-)

Hello, I feel very disconnected from reality and constant feelings and sensations of not being in my own body. I feel like when I move that I’m not the one moving. My vision hasn’t changed but it’s as if the perception of it has changed. Everything looks 2 dimensional and cartoon and fake. I question whether I am real or whether anything is real at all because of how fake everything looks. I realize that I have depersonalization disorder. I’ve felt this way for almost four years now. I’m tired of feeling this way. I want to be like how I used to before this all started. I recently found out I have severe sleep apnea and received the machine but I haven’t used it yet. Could my depersonalization disorder have been caused by the sleep apnea? I understand that the trauma is the primary reason, but I heard there could be other medical reasons. Could sleep apnea be one of them?

Hi Rue, just remember that there are different levels of severity. There's mild, moderate and severe sleep apnea. Sometimes loosing that 10 lb is all it takes to get rid of it or at lease reduce the severity so it doesn't make you tired. It's not always weight or smoking related etc. Both my young children had severe sleep apnea when they were only 3 years old and both had their tonsils and adenoid glands removed as a result and now they breathe / sleep fine. Good luck. Nick

When my body is about to enter sleep, I feel dizzy and jolt, I get scared to fall asleep. I feel as though my breathing becomes shallow when I sleep. Sometimes during a dream, I will wake up abruptly and feel a heavy chest, and my heart rate a bit fast or irregular. Can this be as a result of postpartum? Or could it be dehydration since I breastfeed during the day. I am really confused. I’ve also been sleeping on my back for a long time, because I can’t sleep on my sides fully, due to SI joint healing. I am trying really hard, but sometimes I just remain awake for long periods.

@@MzDaUgly I don’t know if they’ve found the issue for me. I did start taking Zoloft for anxiety and it helped a ton! I was more than likely having anxiety attacks around not being able to sleep.

I had a procedure down that essentially folded my tonsils into the back of my throat it was an experimental procedure to help with sleep apnea they also open up my sinus cavities. I was getting sinus infection frequently. This was making it difficult to sleep before the C pap and during the C pap. It got much better afterwatds but I never got my apnea rechecked. Now I'm going to drive 18 wheelers and would like to verify it I have it or not. Do you know if the home test is a good measure. And if it is, is there a particular home test you that you would recommend. What should I look for in someone providing the test?

I’m not overweight but I’ve recently started suffering from a weird sensation just before I enter sleep. Almost like im removed from my body and I’m no longer breathing for a second. It wakes me up quite violently. Im then scared to try and fall asleep again. It’s crippling my life.

From what I could work out, this seemed to be the lasting affects of long Covid or some sort of chest infection. I wasn’t at my healthiest at the time so I began jogging every evening and In no time it cleared up, it happens every so often but not every night anymore thankfully. It seems to happen when I have a cold or phlegm on my chest. Hope this helps.
