Good thing it wasn't 4th Down. Illegal Kicking also carries a loss-of-down with it, IF it had been 4th Down the defense could have taken the penalty. The result would have been a markoff half the distance to the goal, and a loss of down, turning the ball over at that spot.

If the ball is in the field of play, then it absolutely is a penalty (such as against the Exskins vs. Giants illegal kicking here). I'm going to say it because I have to get it out of my system. What a day and age we're in when refs are finding ways to even penalize outdoor furniture? "Unsportsmanlike conduct! Cowboy's Bench!" ....I can't imagine the obscenities that bench was doing to get that called on it. But some of these aren't so much rare or random anymore. Like the kicking out of bounds is fairly common if the team has a crap kicker. Chop block is a bit rarer, but it was going on a bunch during the rule transition. Same thing with "illegal wedge", which sounds kind of like cheese smuggling.....Green Bay's wheelhouse there. I think the "GIV'N HIM THE BUSINESS!!" call is the best example of rare and random wrapped into the same call.

3:38 how come this is a ruled a safety and not a turnover? I get it went out the back of the end zone, but that was the intention of the offensive player anyway, so the penalty had no effect. I get thats how it's ruled, just seems like a flaw in the rulings, intentionally committing a penalty to gain an advantage.

The actual penalty is "disconcerting signals." A defensive player cannot try to mimic the quarterback's calls in an attempt to either trigger a false start or confuse an audible. Defenses can have their own vocal signals, but Peko got the offense to false start.

“Illegal kicking” is the most absurd rule in NFL. Why can nobody kick the ball in FOOTball? Every other type of football lets you kick the ball-even CFL. Why is US football so weird? I also like how that one ref couldn’t remember the signal for it 😅
@Kylora2112
@Kylora2112 4 ай бұрын
American football went hard on being a carrying/throwing sport and the onside kick was phased out before the NFL even existed, and kicking/punching/batting the ball out of play was considered poor sportsmanship. But yes, "Illegal kicking: kicking team" will never not be funny :)
