What is the pole for? I drive a tow Truck in germany. Normaly the cops would call a crane for jobs like this. Thx Kleo

leverage. you can't raise the boom to get a better pull angle, so you mount as low as possible on the truck,a nd use the pole for leverage to roll the car, rather than just sliding sideways.

also, calling cranes for really anything in towing is exceedingly rare in the us.

It's called a rollover stick, It is not always needs sometimes you can just pull low with a snatch block and it will roll but when it's wanting to slide the stick allows the pull to be much higher than what any structure on the vehicle sits at allowing you to pull from really high on the vehicle to really low on the truck which makes the corner of the vehicle want to dig into the ground with a bunch of down pressure ultimately resulting in the vehicle digging and flipping rather than sliding, We don't use cranes for tows in America almost at all, It takes a very rough crash for that like over a bridge 300 foot down into the ocean is when a crane would come into play but most accidents are towed with the truck you saw which is a rollback, or a wrecker, and then the bigger calls are done with bigger wreckers and sometimes a rotator, which is very close to a crane and the most common crane type vehicle you will ever see used for recovery where it has a massive rotating boom, but it specialized for tractor trailer recovery.

Bad example of when the sidepuller is a good use, The good example are typically recoveries where a second cable can be made good use of, This is just a waste of time in the given example as I can do the same exact thing with the bed and instead actually roll it right onto the edge of the bed and continue winching it up after.

Haha 5-10 times a day in the world come down to Matt's it's not even worth putting all the shit away half the time !!!!🤣 The way these people wreck around here we use those sucker's at least once or twice a week
