All That Is Left (Forgotten Cemetery)

Venturing out to a nearly forgotten cemetery hidden in the woods.

Hey guys this was a beautiful old cemetery and I want to thank Dan again for going out of his way to meet with us and tell us about this cemetery! A couple of notes real quick... I got a handful of comments on the “Creepy and Sad Cemetery” video telling me what a disrespectful p.o.s I was for knocking the leaves off of a grave with my boot. Which I must say is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Maybe if I was dancing on the graves that would be a different story... But not knocking leaves off the graves. But, as you all know, I have nothing but love for these old places. So that was directed at those guys, not y’all. Wanted to make that clear. Moving on, I get comments all the time telling me I need to put these places on Find A Grave. I know these comments are with nothing but care for these old places but so far everyone I have been to has been on Find A Grave. Thirdly, I am definitely aware they are on there. And as much as I appreciate people posting the Find A Grave links under the videos, I ask that you do not. I don’t reveal the locations of these places to protect them from vandalism. Someone said that, that is played out and I should post the locations. But not so. Over the past couple of weeks I have had several comments encouraging the desecration of cemeteries, etc. The majority of the time these comments are just from idiots with nothing better to do than post comments on KZbin. But either way, I’m not going to take the risk. Lastly, while I have participated in a couple of cemetery clean ups, I am not the cemetery caretaker. I get only a few hours one day a week to shoot all the videos and unfortunately I personally do not have the time to clean every one of these cemeteries that I come across. When the day comes that I do have the proper amount of time, trust me I will - and I’ll bring you guys along! Anyway, I do make the “powers that be” aware of places that need serious attention. And usually that goes no where. Heck, I couldn’t even find someone to take responsibility for fixing a destroyed tomb leaving exposed remains. And lastly ONE of these days I’ll hopefully remember to bring some items to help me better read the old tombstones. I truly appreciate all you guys and gals suggestions! It does not go unnoticed! Keep doing what you do and don't bend to opinions of the ignorant or blatantly trolling. You have the viewer's you do because of exactly how you have proceeded to act in your videos, if you acquiesced to those comments, your style of videos would change and your core fan base may not be as happy with the videos. I would have no issue with someone using their boot to sweep the leaves off mine or my family gravestones if the end result is an improvement. Unless you are dancing on the grave or using the headstone for a bench you would be fine in my book.

Reasonable people don’t expect you to fix all of the world's problems-we’re grateful that you take your time and effort to document these places and SHARE them with us! Thank you-again. You could just hike through the woods exploring for your own pleasure rather than researching locations, purchasing and lugging your gear, carefully filming, and then taking the time at home to produce the videos that you post. You’re obviously careful and respectful at sites and your decent intentions are very apparent. And I’m sure many of the complainers, quick to tell you what you *should* be doing, have never participated in any kind of public service good works-they ought to be ashamed. Next to my grandfather s house was an abandoned cemetery. The dates 1860 to 1929. Alot of children s graves. My grandfather in the spring with relatives would work to clean it up. And from his own garden would place flowers. I asked him why. He said" Because I Can, and Will. He would take a soft brush and brush the markers. Some graves only had the date and if the dead was an infant. My grandfather would stand at each grave and greet the individual. " Hello Mrs Bevavir " she died in childbirth in winter of 1888" the baby was buried with her. Some of the graves he said was sinking due to soil , the vegetation and the fact that some times the coffins deteriorated.

I first got interested in visiting old cemetaries in Pensacola, FL while in college. I was shocked by a series of gravestones where one woman lost her husband & several kids, I think it was 6 or 7 ppl in 18 months she lost. It was shocking to me to see that, I never forgot it. It became important to me to record our family's history, and my parents' story.Our family is from GA & N FL. .

I am a Georgia native, born and raised. I still live in Georgia. I am really grateful that you go into these lost, forgotten cemeteries and show the videos on here of the names being uncovered from them. I still have some ancestors that have graves out there that I do not know where they are located, so I hope that one day you might uncover some of my ancestors and I would be able to see them.

Awesome as usual. Also, I’d rather see you brush those leaves off with a rake or your boot then get bit by a rattle snake. It’s interesting to learn you are not allergic to poison ivy, I thought that was just a weird quirk in my family. My dad, brother, nephew and me. None of us get it. My kids have never had it either but my poor hubby can look at it and get it.

You are not being disrespectful at all trying to clean of the headstones ! You are being very respectful in trying to honnor the people buried there and to tell their story as well as you could. If not for your careing in doing this those buried they may have been completely forgotten about. As you said, someday a land development company or person will buy the property and the cematary will completely vanish and lost. I found out by chance that a section of where my parents home and other homes were built in where it was once farm land and yes they destoryed a cematary and told no one about it and they didn't even remove all the headstones but they burried alot of them. A home owner went to have an inground pool buildt and many headstones were found. By that time the company that had sold the property's were long gone and couldn't be found. Now 'that's' disrespect. My parents used to live on 7 Phillips Drive in Edison, N.J. and the stones were found to the end of that road and to the right 2 homes down.

when Ft Gordon expanded into incorporated Richmond county, it inherited over 40 family cemeteries. I have been exploring as many as I can find. In 2007 I found a grave site of a Confederate field grade officer. I lost the pics from my phone and have been trying like crazy to find the site again so I can look him up and find a bio.

So many old cemeteries have not weathered storms like hurricanes. The old cemetery where my mother's ancestors are buried lost markers to trees falling upon them breaking them in two or more parts. Old iron fences around graves were removed to allow maintenance to be performed in an easier manner. This particular graveyard looks much different today than when I was a child. I have few photos to show what the grave of my ancestor looked like after WW2. Unlike the cemetery in your video "ours" is receiving good care other than broken markers being removed. We seem to be kindred spirits. I like to imagine what places look like in the old days. In Tennessee there are many old cemeteries with landowners graves inside stone or fences. Employees and slaves were buried surrounding the landowners but outside the rocked in areas. Slaves were marked with large stones. You do a great job on these videos. Love the history!

Hi Robert from the U.K.! 🙋‍♀️ I don’t understand the people who “thought” you disrespectful regarding scraping leaves off with your boot,, I thought you extremely sensible, as. better that, than getting bitten by a rattlesnake!! How stupid they are. Ignore them. There are many more of us who admire and enjoy your videos...such a shame more isn’t done about these old cemetery’s..they are history , and will soon be gone forever if not looked after better. One thing I would ask is, please, please can you remember to leave some tracing paper and black crayon or whatever in your truck. Love how you “read “ with your fingers, but some of the more difficult to read stones would be better with a tracing. As well as that, you would be recording history, and could perhaps pass on to the local library, or whoever you have out there who would preserve such things? Thanks for showing. You all did fine uncovering and cleaning. I use my battery powered leaf blower on some trips, rake on others. Keep doing what you are doing! As far as Find a grave, I just upload new pictures. Surprisingly, the owners of one cemetery saw the shape the place was in and organized a cleanup. Keep up the good work!! BTW, that place has really gone downhill, Last time I saw that place has to be 30 years ago. Hardwoods all gone out in that field. My grandmother grew up in that area.

It looks like the Brannon family from Georgia is listed in the 1850 Federal Census including Emily P. (born 1834 died 1853).She had 7 siblings. To answer the comment that was made about future generations forgetting, well that is mostly true. I have been finding my own ancestors graves in New England.It's a bittersweet thing to find these old families and that's especially true when they are your own.I have been visiting cemeteries for many years. Thought I was a rare bird until I ran across you guys and a few others here on You tube. It always makes me sad about the graves of slaves. I know not all southerners owned slaves however. Good job guys.

Thanks again Mr. Robert! Love your desire to show and share with us these beautiful places are and must have shined beautifully as these ppl walked, lived, loved, cared for their home and land! Sadly, so many young women died in giving lie for her children. It was such a, difficult time in living and developing their property. Hate to see how mankind today doesn’t wish to be bothered bring these important ppl which care enough to make their home and graves to be pasted on to their children in the future! A, one birth and reared in Nouvellé Orléans, one thing about we, Acadians honored our dead loved one as man did build their graves above ground so our children can reached back in time and speak to them as we’d done when they’d lived and loved one the other! It’s such a, short blink of eye passing through this flesh Earthly life for another life waiting us which we’d come through these bodies for such a, short time! As a, small girl 21 century was eons ago! Never thought I’d see this day! Getting older I’m looking back as it was just yesterday! Life has been good Then yet, we’d do not realize till ones old as myself and my mother whom out lived all her younger siblings two children and my father hr hubby her love for so long when she’d approached 91 yrs. on Earth 🌎 I’d so wanted her to live to 100 yrs. She’d told me No, my precious daughter! I’ve lived a, wonderful life but, burying all my siblings, all I’d helped mommy raised them as I’d watched my grandmother passed away I’d not liked death! Even though we all wish to enter heaven at our time here is over as we’re just passing through, life is truly too short! I’m ready for Father God to take me home I’ll get to see my family my two children we’d buried though I’m not liking to leave you and your brothers and your families one day we, shall all be together with our LORD GOD WHICH GAVE US LIFE ETERNAL! Yes, mommy but, this flesh body is all we’ve known, We’ve no recollections of the First Earth 🌎 Age when we’d all lived here in that Dominion, YAHVEH erased our memories from that age! It’s still a, little frightening of taking this last breath. I’ve discovered our soul leaves our flesh bodies through our mouth! I’ve told my hubby the day he fines me dead to please close my lower jaw. Many ppl do not realize this and they leave without closing ones eye lid and lower jaw collapses! I’d not want to be seen this way! Sure we’re in Paradise yet, our bodies return to that dirt from whence. It comes from! I’ll get cremated for I’d hate to think of the evil maggots eat my flesh! HÀ! HÀ! Thanks again Mr. Robert for acknowledging these ppl which begun their hard life here most likely in a, beautiful home on top a, beautiful hill! What beautiful Sun sets, Sun rises as they’re on their veranda! Ppl, do not take time to bring beautiful decor onto the outside trim as the home you’ve purchased! One can just imagine the beautiful home it was! Well decorated with such beautiful edges trimmed at each cornered trimmed as my grandmeré/ grandpére house! Loved their home! As young children we’d been forbidden to go into her parlor! S an adult I’d totally understood her reasoning! Her beautiful furniture so nicely trimmed as her porcelain figurines, she’d been one. of. The few wealthy ppl living in Nouvellé Orléans! My Grandperé was the first man to own a, model-T ford! The first family to own a, TV! We’d gotten our first tv when I’d been about 7yr. old. One channel! Only Saturday per week did TV come on! First thing we’d stand to our Pledge of Alliance to our Flag. Then a, Prayer 🙏🏻 and then cartoons! Commercial once one the hour for one minute! HÀ! Went off air at 12:00PM! After lunch was outside playing all day! Now, I’m old and enjoying you’ve videos! Thanks 🙏🏻 again! God Bless and Love you brother in Christ! Same to your friends

Great video I enjoy hearing about the history. I always think you and the guys are very respectful of grave sites. We have a old calvary fort not far from us called Fort Reno and the officer had their grave site inside the walls another area outside the walls for POW's which had a small wall or fence then POW that was considered to be a traitor was buried outside the cemetery.

I appreciate so much the care you take when sharing cemeteries with us. It is obvious that you respect the graves, and the people who are buried there. I enjoy going on the adventures with you, it's fun to travel to places I'd never get to see. I wish these cemeteries could all be protected and "restored" - but they can't. Always excellent video's! Really interesting stuff, even though I know nothing of the southern history. I am in Canada. Nice scenery. everything green and lush! We just lost the snow, pretty well all has melted! I don't think anything that you did there by cleaning off the grave stones is disrespectful in any way. If anything it is a lot of respect for these people by exposing it. Wonder if you rubbed a bit of charcoal or some silicone spray would make the engraving more legible? Might waterproof and give a bit more longevity to the engraving? I really hope you didn't get a reaction to the poison ivy! We have that miserable weed here! Have a sauna, smear some aloe Vera gel on yourself! Man that p.i. is bad news! Thanks for sharing. Your video's are fantastic!

Very cool series. We have a family cemetery in MA that's set way off the road and forgotten about. I went out there about 7yrs ago with my daughter and took some pictures. Since then a good friend of mine went out there with her son and Boy Scout troop and cleaned up the site a bit. Thanks for your videos.

Excellent ! I too enjoy exploring old cemeteries.....I have distant ancestors buried in a remarkably similar wooded setting just outside of Palmetto, GA. My late father once sketched a map of its location ….I need to go there some day. (now reside 500 miles from there.) Keep the great videos coming.
