You can actually drop in ND filters in the back of the lens. Adorama sells this lens in a kit with four ND filters for the MSRP. Granted, it's not as convenient as having a screw on variable ND, but a workaround nonetheless that video shooters might want

Debating on getting the 14-24 vs the 16-35. I would be using it for both stills and video. If it was just photo, I would be 100% okay with the 14-24. But the fact that I would need it for video too, the 14-24 concerns me with the lack of VND at the front. An ND in the rear would be needed, but that seems annoying to use when shooting all day with it. And I can see it being prone to scratching the front element. But that 16-35 isn't as wide as I want. Plus, its way more $$ Ugh.

Wide angle distortion is fun. I’m not sure why anyone cares about it. Seems like it’s half the point.
@daxshell2424 жыл бұрын
its because people confuse distortion with projection. stretched corners is a result of projection that makes corners look stretched, but that is actually what a spherical projection looks like on a flat plane. wide angles also suffer more from distortion, where straight lines are curved (like pincushion or barrel distortion), and this is undesirable as it causes a loss of a resolution. also, faces. once you leave the center 20% of the image, your face will start to do funny things. its all fun and games until the bride's face ends up in the corner of a wide angle.

But, it's kind of irritating in a $3K lens. It's a known problem so I sent it back to B&H to have it fixed. After 2 months the lens was returned to me with a note saying there was nothing wrong with the lens. I love the lens, but it still has the pulsing issue.

@@PhotoTrekr Bummer. So you use it for video work then? What I'll likely do is get the 16-35 gm for the wide zoom, and a Laowa 12mm zero D for interiors and tight work.

You can buy ND filters for this lens that go on the back of the lens!

I am not a professional landscape photographer, so I won't sell the 16-35GM which is more convenient for ordinary people like me.
