I loved this video. It made me feel so SEEN as a plus size person who cannot fit in the clothes at most stores (and is really specific about what I want from my clothes). I’m sorry that you went through so many pieces and stores that didn’t work for you, but I’m so glad you shared it with us. So much of the time when I see people shopping on KZbin they only show what works!
@bdp08053 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I also noticed a huge shift during the pandemic at stores like American Eagle who did use to keep more of a diverse size range in store, just stopped. I genuinely struggled at one point to find pants over a 12 at our local store after my pair finally gave way at the thighs, and it honestly sucked. My spouse even became frustrated at the store while he was trying to help me look for my sizes. I ended up buying jeans online from Universal Standard, but I had to buy 3 different sizes at once because I had no idea what size I was.
@lovinglifewitheli3 жыл бұрын
I absolutely hate clothes shopping. I’m one of those “I’m not standard size but I’m not plus size either” people. Nothing ever fits and when I go to try something cute I see online on in store, they never have my size and am usually told by a rude stick thin sales assistant “ oh that style doesn’t come in that size” (when it’s fully available online) or “we only get one of that size in and if it’s not on the rack then we sold it already” 🤦♀️ it honestly makes me feel like they don’t want anyone over a size 14 (us 10) in there
@RachelClareable3 жыл бұрын
Agreed! And some of the clothes in plus size stores are so awful, all butterflies and diamanté’s! I like Old Navy’s approach of just making everything in bigger sizes, feels way more inclusive
@redvinesron3 жыл бұрын
Same here. I'm plus, at the biggest I've ever been, and shopping feels near impossible. I walked into an old navy recently so scared and was AMAZED at their new size selection. It was wonderful. Def recommend starting there.

@@redvinesron Ross has a lot of plus size stuff too! I've gotten so much cute stuff there. And I'm a size 20/22 and a 2X!! I recently went into an H&M and they had tons of cute stuff in my size and I believe up to a 3X. You just have to know where to go!!

This is on the other hand, is relatable irrespective of whether you are post partum or not. Sewing made my life so much easier lol. I’m midsized (US 10-16/Medium-XL depending on the store) so a lot of plus sized things don’t quite fit right but a lot of standard sized things don’t either. I used to struggle with it so much, but I’ve reached a point where I buy the pants that are slightly too big and then take them in where needed. Obviously sewing is a time consuming hobby and it’s not for everyone, but it was pretty life changing when I realized I could make clothes actually fit me and personalize them at the same time. Plus it means I get to keep the clothes for longer since I can repair them. Would absolutely recommend if anyone is on the fence about learning how to sew.

It inspired me to do a closet clean out and get rid of all the clothes I don’t use, take some quizzes to help me shape a style that fits my lifestyle now (I’m working from home and doing some freelance) and make a moodboard to help me visualize the pieces I’m missing to complete my style, make a list and do more intentional shopping! I realized how time consuming, tiring and disappointing (let’s not forget expensive) is looking around from store to store not knowing what you want, trying to find something you think you like or need, hope it fits you and buy it just to never use it again 😑

Seeing you struggle to find a jeans that fit, that's so relatable. Through out high school till like early 20s, I was extremely under weight due to thyroid. And as I was living in a pretty small town back then, it was so hard to find a jeans that fits. Back then skinny jeans was everything and I used to feel so bad because my jeans even after altering never quite fit well. Online shopping thankful became a thing after few years and I got access to a wider size range with forever21 kinda brands. But I'm glad that in the last few years I've gained like 10kgs and now I'm usually uk size 8-10. I know for many people this seems trivial, but it's a huge thing for me that I'm no longer under weight and unhealthy and I feel so confident in my body now. And to some extent watching your videos for the last couple of years helped too

Sierra, honestly thank you for this video! I am 10 months postpartum, and was really struggling with my current closet and not fitting into pre-pregnancy clothes. I appreciated the rhetoric that its best to just start new and pick pieces that will fit and work for me now and my baby-having lifestyle. Trying to fit back into pre-baby clothes was very disheartening, and now I'm excited to go shopping for fun new pieces!
