Join Si and Steve aka the Hovercraft History Hunters as they make truely epic discoveries which could change history. This is no exaggeration. Watch as they find a pair of Roman shoes which they take to the museum. Not only this, they find potentially Iron Age and Roman Pottery, and an 18th Century grenade! Enjoy Bonus footage of a walk around the Museum of London too!
To mudlark legally, you need a permit from the Port of London Authority. Visit: www.PLA.co.uk for more info.

With so many people privately finding and keeping in.private collections..what you do by handing everything over is why I love watching so much. History like this belongs to everyone, we learn so much from our past. Thanks for doing the right thing man.

Roman husband hears a crash - "What was that?" Roman wife - "the kids bumped to good wine amphora and broke it" RH - "Righto. They're cheap enough. Toss it out. No one will want it now" 2000 years later. Archaeologists - "SCORE! I just found some broken Roman era pottery! Happy days!". 😜 😂 😂

What a find! A PAIR of Roman shoes?! Think of it - you were the next people to see those after nearly 2,000 years. It boggles the mind. And over all those years, those two shoes stayed together!! 🤯💕😁

So exciting to find a pair of shoes like that, so perfect and side by side. I believe that owner must have taken them off before he went to bed, maybe placed them by his bed, or sleeping bag. But he never put them on again. Had to dash off in a hurry? Passed away...something sudden. Because why would anyone leave a pair shoes behind? The museum trip was great! Love your enthusiasm and love to share and teach history. 👍♥🥾

2 Thumbs UP! Do like it when you guys go off on the Hovercraft - you can really get to the GOOD STUFF! I'd be so excited to find so much Roman... and yes, I've heard that kids actually were treated like children should be - I'm not quite sure where the idea came from that they were maligned and treated like chattels and glorified serfs? Been a LONG time since I was at the Museum of London, but it was worth visiting when it first opened, so it HAS to be worth visiting NOW - must have found SO much more stuff! Hope the shoes are Roman, too - I had visions of the owner getting stuck in the muck! 🐾🐾⛏👍😎💍😉🙀

I have a huge map of Roman Britain and I had a look in the general region of the Thames foreshore. Not knowing exactly where you two were mucking about, I can share that there were a LOT of pottery and tile making sites largely along the south foreshore. That would account for all the beautiful shards and near complete bowls, etc. Deltas constantly change and we have had some measurable sea level rise in the past 2000 years. Those hobnailed shoe/boot soles may have been lost or sucked up in mud when the area where you found those was the beach or grassy "lawn" in front of anyone of a number of villas along that same shore. Retire officers were usually given some land or in kind benefits at the end of their careers. A nice beachfront villa would have been a welcome reward for 25+ years of service!! I am so envious of you for having access to so much ancient history in your back yards!!
