I was taught that the tan sao is about deflection, not to stop a force. if the angle of the tan sao intercepts that looping punch at the right point then the punch should slide down the tan sao.

That's 100 true.

Practicing the 白鶴亮翅(white crane showing wing) of Taichi, just like the western boxing but much more, will do the job well.

How can you protect your right frontier if you use both arms for just one side? Against a good boxer... Goodbye. That's my opinion, just it
@Dan531966 жыл бұрын
elregacho spot on. In our wing tzun we never defend 1 arm with 2. If anything, we defend 2 arms with 1

You obviously have no experience with wing chun. It’s a transitional movement that will be there for a second before it’s not. Oh and a counter attack will be right behind it...
@Dan531966 жыл бұрын
That’s rather presumptuous. I’ve been training wing tzun for over 2 years and we would never do this. In the time it takes for someone to fire a cross, a split second, you would be completely undefended. A good boxer will fire a second punch so fast that this concept would be useless. Also, he’s meeting force with force which goes against wing Chun concepts. Tan sao and bong sao should be driven by pressure, they are hindered punches ie. you punched, the opponent offered pressure against punch so you allow the pressure to turn your punch into a bong or tan, you never fight the opponents strength with a block. This is the antithesis of the daoist concept of ‘being like water’. Water doesn’t block. He is being like an ice cube, not water. I don’t know what wing chun you’re learning but if your learning to ‘block’ and defend 1 arm with 2, I’d think about checking another system out...

WOW! you have been training for 2 whole years, this makes sense, now why you and your ego could feel like you know more than a certified world recognized master of the art who not only was a direct student of wong shun leung but was his head instructor while he was alive. In addition to being a practitioner for over 30 years. Opinions are like assholes bro, also we are more than ready and willing for you to come show us what you can do. We are not hard to find at Gary Lam wing chun SO PLEASE come show us how its done.

Antoine Harris Wong Sheung Leung wing Chun is not the last word on wing chun buddy. Not saying all SiFu’s are bad or that WSL is bad. I think it works well against unskilled fighters but against real boxers, kick boxers I doubt it. Saying that I think Phillip Bayer looks great, very fast, good structure etc. I’ve boxed in state championships and I’m telling you man A good boxer can fire a 1-2 in a split second. The speed of one punch.Defending one arm with 2 in an attack like this is gonna put you in hospital. 100%. You can’t chase the arms like that, you must attack it’s just simply not realistic

This is not good. In real fight, the guy will punch him with his free left hand right away. In WC principle, it should be a technique that deflect the right punch but attack the opponent at the same time. But I won't tell that secret on how.

Not good in a real fight at all if both arms are being used in the technique there is nothing to defend the other side of the body
