@@underthemayo Knack 1 and 2 are both linear adventure beat-‘em up games. Both Knack games have a camera angle that shows almost the entire battlefield. The camera itself moves on its own and often switches between completely different angles when entering a new room just like the old god of wars games and the old RE trilogy. Both games also have platforms and Yes allows the player to have a dedicated jump button. NTM both knack games have a double jump and a dash maneuver. Knack 1 has many secrets rooms that have chests that can give you permanent upgrades in which you can allow yourself to equipped or unequipped. (Did I also mention that Knack 1 has a combo meter which is beneficial to the player?) Knack 2 plays slightly different from Knack 1 where this time enemies are more dangerous and smarter and requires the player to switch up attacks options. Knack 2 introduces the player to experiment and practice using each new attack Knack learns through out the game where you get to preform devastating combos the take down powerful enemies and bosses. (Did I mention that Knack 2 has quick time events that if you don’t act quick enough you can fuck up just like RE6 and the old god of wars?)

As a new player myself who just bought the game on Christmas and chose disciple on a first play through, while the game did in fact kick my ass, from just practice and experimenting I was able to find little things like how combo chains flow into one another like I can press square, triangle, (delay) triangle and get the roundhouse kick as opposed to how its normally done. Or how command moves can also be flown into combos. I also learned from practice I can parry almost everything but not everything will be deflected unless you do multiple parries in a row (perfect example is Yang). Now I did hear that apparently the game (specifically the club/Sean) was way harder on release so for all I know things could have been different but I must say all in all I genuinely did not get frustrated at this game. Every death felt like an actual learning experience and as I got better I could time my parries and avoids better, read what attack my opponent will do and act based on the combo and choose to avoid or parry, and one of the biggest is knowing that parrying or dodging certain attacks actually causes the enemy to change up there attack pattern. I haven't completed every boss or level without dying yet and I still have trouble on some bosses and enemies but that won't stop me from practicing to get better. Now I'm not saying the tutorial couldn't do a better job at explaining everything the player has the potential to do but at the same time I feel if I as a new player can get by through practice and learning these mechanics on my own then so should other players. Some people just seem to give up so easily but really it does just take time and practice. I mean after all the games whole thing is "mastery through practice" lol

@underthemayo2 жыл бұрын
I've never stated otherwise. I am in support of a mindless easy mode for this. But you've missed the point. Normal mode (due to it's failure to educate new players on the game they're playing) turns out to be way too frustrating of an experience. I've been asking for better player instruction as a way to solve the problems with the Normal mode experience. If they updated the game to better educate players on the game's mechanics, it would make Normal much better time for a new player. And THEN, I would be cool with a mindless easy mode on top of that. Instead, they have done NOTHING to address the problems with the game's presentation on Normal mode. It remains a frustrating obtuse experience for a new player to whom these concepts are alien. And all they did was crap out an easy mode for anyone who might be struggling. It's insulting.

Appreciate you willing to update and reupload the video even if it was just a single point about the throwing challenge. As a UI designer, seeing the heading and challenge descriptions as "modifiers" but some of them are actually "cheats" is bad design. You don't expect a basket of apples to also have pears or oranges. They should've definitely named the tab "Modifiers/Cheats", move all cheats at the very bottom with a put a horizontal divider to separate them from the modifiers and changed the wording of the challenges to explicitly say whether its modifiers allowed or cheats allowed.

@jasperhorne2 жыл бұрын
@@name-UCTxndpNTXflYzsx-wX7GJEg I agree, but devs would've done that already if they wanted to split them up. It seems they want all of them in one tab and so adding a divider to separate modifiers and cheats would be a decent compromise

Sifu released in a finished, polished state way better than most triple A titles. Then they supplement your purchase by adding free updates to continue supporting their game. This video is so whiney and smug. None of the concerns you voiced come close to "ruining the game." Souls games tell you absolutely nothing and people still manage to figure that stuff out. It's almost like you learn you can parry by... *trying to parry.* If you look at Sifu and don't immediately assume "this game obviously has a parry system" then idk how to help you. "Uggghh this game would be so good if only they flashed "press x to parry" every 30 seconds!!" Git gud

Realistically what percentage of players are going to stick with a game past the second stage if it's punishing? (at release this was the case with SIFU since there was no easy mode etc) I mean Cuphead is a fairly simple game, point n shoot, avoid projectiles/enemies and work in the slaps best you can, theres more to it at high level play like most games but thats the gist. Most players understand how to play the game perfectly well, the challenge being executing that knowledge and failure is pretty punishing. Theres no way to fully bypass the challenge so all in all, structurally very similar to SIFU at release. Cuphead has lower percentage completion than SIFU, not just in absolute completion but in each comparable stage. Not a strictly fair comparison I know since SIFU has now added in very easy ways to complete it but I doubt theres been a huge surge in new players since release, the bump in completion percentage is probably fairly small. I mean Resi4, 45% drop off at the village chief boss fight. Things can get wacky when looking into completion stats as a symptom for how the game is designed. I'm not even sure how much it matters, Resi4 is amazing no matter how many 'get it'. Not saying you can't criticise how a game communicates it's mechanics but when it comes to completion statistics I think mindset and easy modes etc, play by far the biggest role.
@WhenDevilsDuel3 ай бұрын
Bro said cuphead is structurally similar... Where'd you go to school to learn to be a clown?
@ethanspicer34712 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to disagree with your sentiments from the previous video and this video in the effect that the developers are ruining the game and or not addressing needed issues. The game was released polished and complete the rest of this content is supplementary. To that effect it’s not that your complaints aren’t valid they’re just less urgent when you consider where the game is right now. Many of your complaints focus on things you want for the game or perceive other players want. Is the easy mode bad to a degree yes, but the developers are aiming to make a flexible difficulty experience and there’s nothing wrong with that. If a person never learns anything playing the game and they’re satisfied that’s fine and vice versa. That’s why the cheats and modifiers focus making the game easier or harder. It’s about playing choice and for me personally I liked discovering the mechanic myself then having a pop up or the game hold my hand. Could the challengers be better I agree but I find the criticism on Sloclap’s updates not only harsh but inflammatory because at the end of the day we have free updates, that increase replayability of a game that could’ve been one and done or had the life cycle of their previous title absolver whose updates were actually breaking the game. I know these criticism are because you enjoy the game and see it’s potential but don’t use a platform of criticism to assume the feelings of developers or attack them. Use your platform responsibly

Why do you want this game to handhold so much
@underthemayo2 жыл бұрын
Asking for the ability to activate specific practice exercises in the PRACTICE ROOM, to practice the very mechanics the game told you about in the opening tutorial, is not hand holding. Neither is asking for in game challenges to revolve around the mastery of important mechanics and scores.
@the-sz8sq2 жыл бұрын
@@underthemayo If you don't want these things for handholding/guiding then why do you want them and why do you see not having them as being a problem?
@underthemayo2 жыл бұрын
@@the-sz8sq you're using an incredibly dismissive and patronizing word by saying "hand holding". Simply giving players a way to practice important mechanics they may not have learned due to the opening tutorial being rushed, is not hand holding. If just simply communicating important mechanics to a player is hand holding, then so is the opening tutorial section. "Press r1 to parrry" in the opening 30 seconds is apparently hand holding to you. No, hand holding would be constantly flashing a mechanic on screen while you're playing and having characters yelling at you while you fight like in god of war ragnarok.
@the-sz8sq2 жыл бұрын
@@underthemayo I don't see the tutorial as hand holding because it's teaching you the controls but I do see anything beyond that as hand holding. If you're used to melee action games, theres really no excuse to not beat the squats. You might be 50, 60 on your first shot.
