I am fortunate to own both of these handguns. The assessment of the two different types of triggers, striker-fired versus an SAO in the 226, is dead on in my opinion. The 226 trigger is very crisp and the reset is very short. I have found that the initial trigger pull on the X5 is as nice as I have found in a striker fired gun. However, the reset on the X5 is a little strange. It seems to “hunt” for the reset and in my gun the actual distance to reset varies from shot to shot. This is more obvious in dry fire that when actually shooting rounds but it is still there. I also own an X-Carry version of the 320 and the reset on that gun is a bit worse in terms of “hunting” for the reset. That said, I plan to keep both guns but if forced to make a decision I would opt for the 226. I am an old guy whose Dad taught me to shoot in 1952 and as a result I have a bias toward hammer fired guns because of the long experience with them. End of disclaimer! A great review as always. One of my favorite reviewers for sure.

I purchased both pistols and decided to sell the P226 Legion. The biggest complaint about the X5 I've been hearing about is it's weight, but that doesn't bother me considering the recoil felt a lot lighter to me than the P226L. The longer grip also felt more comfortable as I have slightly larger hands. Both top tier firearms and as many previous comments have stated, it's preference. But sometimes I kick myself for selling it because it's such a beautiful gun!!

Good feedback. My favorite Sig is the 226 Leigon SAO... I upgraded the X5 with a red dot and it's really nice but the SAO's trigger is soooo much better! Good to have options for sure.

Just got mine in last week. Solid feel on the 320 for my hand. 226 is slightly thicker making the reach a tad longer to the trigger. Easily managed but not a clone. Agree on the mag well. Just enough to make it all come together easy. Have to try a CZ shadow. Lots of comments on that one and then look for/find one.

The only reason I have to choose the x5 is because my hands are bigger then the average person. I prefer heavier/bigger handguns, the grip width on the x5 is absolutely perfect for me. I held the 226 in store and it felt great too but the x5 won me over. I dont do competitions or anything, just a super fun range gun.

It’s hard to decide which one I’d like for competition shooting Based on this video . The P226 definitely seems like it has a crisp trigger compared to the X5 but then the X5 has a little longer slide brighter sites and the flared mag well not to mention a little more weight which helps during competition shooting. So it’s hard to say because trigger is very important to me.

Frankly, I sold the X5. The trigger was so underwhelming it was shamefully disappointing. IMHO the 226 SAO is markedly superior and frankly, a better pistol.

I got a p229 legion sao rxp. That trigger is something special and the reset…wow. If you just can’t deal with the safety I guess get the x5 legion. Outside custom 1911 I can’t see a better trigger than the legion sao. Will be sending it to sig armourer for an even finer trigger work after I get that legion p226 sao. Waiting for them to offer it with the new Romeo 2 hopefully early next year. Out of the striker fired guns trigger id say ppq best, then vp9 then p320 as I’ve handled the p320 xcarry. None match that legion sao though. I’m 36 and raised on glocks but I have a tough time ever seeing the triggers matching hammer sao ones.

I also have both but I like the P-226 Legion SAO better. I will say however the P-320 shoots and feels superior to a Glock or S&W Shield. I didn't know what to expect when I bought the P-320 but I was happy about the fact that it didn't just feel like another sloppy striker fired gun.

Sir, I have to agree with you. It has a proven track record. It is durable, reliable, and accurate. Now I would point out that the NSW has moved toward the Glock 19. This is another fighting handgun that I think is reliable, accurate and much easier to shoot since every shot is the same striker action. Versus the double action to single action transition that is required when mastering the 226 platform. For full-size handguns I really do like the Sig P226 single action only version. Have owned both, still own the P226 Legion SAO. The X-5 went by the way way of the do-do bird. I just could not shoot it as well as the CZs Accu Shadow 2 and the TSO.

I shot both and in my opinion the 226 SAO is a much better value and honestly super reliable, there is some reports that say the 2011 can be temperamental and you could run into some issues so I would not use one as a duty sidearm. The 226 SAO I would trust my life with all day long.

When I hear people make these definitive statements I have to scratch my head. The best gun is the one you're comfortable handling , most all these modern guns are great, weather its a Sig, Glock,, Walther or a 1911. As for a striker fired trigger some are better, some are worse but you are limited by the physics of the design no matter how good they get, it would be absurd to think it can compare to a SA trigger but in a gun fight the trigger feel won't be a issue you're thinking about

P226 definitely seems to have the edge. 320 is a solid gun but it's trigger is not even comparable to 226. The Legion trigger should be better in the 320 than it is IMO. It isn't as crisp or as short a reset as the PPQ or CZ P10. Neat gun. Good price for what it offers. I expected an amazing trigger and it isn't as good as my expectations.

I'm a believer in use what works for you and you have proficiency with. I own both the 226 Legion DA/SA and the SAO version. Of the two the SAO is my preference. Great pistols! For me I do refer striker fired guns with a lower bore axis like Glocks and M&Ps. Just fit my hands better and having out 30,000 rounds through one M&P and 40,000 through and Gen 2- G19, I know they work! Bottom line, you the pistol that works for you! Thanks for commenting.

I’ve owned a 226 sao for over a year. Just left a gun show and a vendor tried to buy it off of me for $700 (incl x300 and several mags) which he said I could trade up to the x5 legion for $1k. The trigger on the 226, IMO, isn’t even in the same ball park. Much more slack on the x5 and no where near as short and crisp a reset. X5 is a cool gun and I like the grip a bit more but the trigger/action isn’t as good

Just my two cents. You get a better trigger and sights right out of the box with a Sig and can have an all metal gun. Sig definitely is easier to shoot better and more consistent from the start. I have many Glocks, S&W, Sigs and it’s what you are willing to pay. Everyone’s situation is different.

Tom. I think the S&W M&P 2.0 has a much better trigger out of the box. Also much less expensive. The P320 X5 is nice to own but for me the 5" M&P is my preferred gun of the two.

Thanks Jim. It's really a great point you raise. I think triggers are really subjective. Yes the SAO triggers are sweet. I've also spend so much time and tens of thousands of rounds with striker fired guns that I'm totally good with them. Bottom like it's about practice and the users level of proficiency.

It depends. The reality is whichever handgun or longer and you get you need to get training and practice. If you or your family is not highly experienced in firearms there is some advantage to having a double action pistol requiring that long double action pole through the first shot. That being said this is all about training. For my students I always recommend that they first establish how they plan to use the handgun how much training practice they’re going to do. Simply buying a firearm does not prepare you for a home defense or self-defense scenario. All the best and stay safe.

I shoot my M&p 2.0 with Apex trigger or LTT beretta much better than my p226 legion da/da. Something about the grip shapes with Sigs throw me off, they never shoot POA for me always low.

IMHO The X5’s striker trigger, or any striker trigger I know of made to date is just not, uh, as clean, crisp, consistent, on and on. You can get a CZ’s P10 is as close as I’ve seen. But it’s still miles apart from the 226, CZ Shadow2, and most Spo1’s.

Sig mags are over priced for sure. These two pistols not so fast. Excellent shooters which don’t need any upgrades. I have both and there are no pistols for these prices that have a higher “shootability” rating. I don’t like Sig’s proprietary system that forces you to buy their products only like red dots in particular and high priced mags that are no better then other magazines but just because you don’t want to pay a certain price for a well made pistol doesn’t prove it’s not worth it. These pistols rock!

Brand, make and model less so. Whatever the user trains with, practices with and has the proficiency to hit the target is what matters the most to me.

You obviously havent priced custom 1911s. If you want to see an overpriced gun look at Glock. $550-630 for $20 worth of plastic, crappy sights and a sponge for a trigger. Most Glock fans I've encountered drop another $200-500 customizing a "perfect" gun (That puts it around legion prices) . I still own 2 Glocks and have went though at least 4 others I can remember off hand. Sig IMHO may or may not be a better shooting gun for you but its worth the cash. Glocks should be priced around $350 and $400 with metal night sights. Sigs are "slightly" higher than I would like to pay. I'd say dropping the average street price -$100 would be more reasonable.

@@filoIII I got 3 mags with my legion and 2 with my older Glocks. If you buy Mec Gar or look for a sale the mags for a sig can be found under $30. If you cant afford $10 extra for a metal mag instead of a plastic one then I recommend buying a Taurus. legions also oome with G10 grips. The reason they have a 10 in them is they are 10 times better that polymer.
