The 226 and Beretta 92 series are on top of my list along with CZ75 models.
@karlheinzneugebauer
@karlheinzneugebauer 2 ай бұрын
I've shot them all, but nothing beats my stock CZ Shadow 2. The trigger on the Beretta is too weird, the grip safety on a 1911 is wobbly and annoying, nothing bad to say about the P226 besides its high bore axis which punches back a bit more than the others.
@Bristecom
@Bristecom Ай бұрын
@@karlheinzneugebauer I've also shot them all. I actually prefer the more defined trigger of the P226 Legions and lighter overall weight. If you get the alloy CZ75's, the trigger is still not preferable to me and the recoil is noticeably harsher than the P226 or Shadow 2. I can see why many prefer the Shadow 2 but it's not without its tradeoffs. But you're right, although the P226 feels soft to shoot, it does have more more movement due to the higher bore axis which is a tad slower and some equate as high recoil. Beretta 92 is also good to shoot and looks the best IMO but definitely doesn't have the best ergo's or stock trigger (but it's not a bad trigger - just a longer takeup and reset). They all have their advantages but my choice of the 3 is the SIG P226 SAO Legion, although the price is a bit too high so value-wise Beretta probably wins.
@karlheinzneugebauer
@karlheinzneugebauer Ай бұрын
@@Bristecom I just shot the Beretta again. 1) My hands are way to large and my pinky barely stays on the grip. 2) The trigger feels so unpredictable, that I'm surprised when it goes off. I mean, it' easy to get to the wall, but then you have to press way too hard. And to be fair, I use extended palm swell LOK grips on my shadow 2 and on the P226 of my colleague.

I carried a P220 ( .45 ), for 10 years, before being forced to adopt a Glock 17 by my agency. I loved that P220, and did not want to switch. Over time, I learned to love the Glock 17 as a duty gun, and trust the 9mm. Over these many years, I carried and loved a P226 off-duty. Such a beautiful weapon, and so accurate. Because of the heft of this gun, in retirement, I have gone to an all Glock system, and currently carry a mdl 43x. Great gun, but only 10 rounds. I do miss my two Sigs though.
@AikiRonin21
@AikiRonin21 2 ай бұрын
I'm almost the same. Where we were still carrying S&W Model 64s (Corrections) up til around 2016, I carried a P220 off duty until 2014. I saw the writing on the wall, and assumed it wouldn't be long, at that rate, that ne'er do wells may start shooting at anyone behind a badge. I immediately went out and purchased a Sig P229 in .357SIG for off duty carry, due to excellent ballistics and reasonable capacity. Now, that Sig is no longer selling the P229 in .357SIG, I am returning to .45 with the FNX45. I still carry my P229 when the FNX proves a little too bulky, but I have an FN Reflex for deep, deep concealment as a compromise for when I need to dress up. Every night before I go to bed, I do my dry fire practice, and in my prayers, I ask that Sig at least does a short run of P229s and P226s in .357SIG and I am able to get a couple of each. I turn 50 in a few months, and two more P229s would probably carry me through the rest of my life without needing another pistol, although I am liking the FNX45 nearly as much as the P229.

Why wouldn’t you pick up a P 365 XL with mag guts and have 14 + 1 capacity in a great carry size?
@AikiRonin21
@AikiRonin21 2 ай бұрын
@@maybe5883for years, the major justification for carrying 9mm over .45 or .40 was capacity, when the G19 was becoming the standard for CCW with a 15rnd capacity. The FNX45 meets that standard, and the P229 in either .40 or .357SIG is at 14 (with reliable MecGar mags). When the FBI study was released in 2014, everyone jumped on the "9mm is the best" bandwagon, but from what I've seen in an interview with a former FBI firearms guy, there were two specific cartridges that actually ballistically qualify as just as good or better, and they were not tested in sub 4" barrels for that study. From reading the study, most of the criteria that made 9mm "better" were logistical, and mostly tied to costs. I get it, people want 9mm to shoot magic beans that do everything, because they tend to be accurate with 9mm. I don't have a problem with that. You should carry what you are most competent and confident with. I shot a 9mm for the first time a couple years ago, after a lifetime of shooting .45, .50AE, .44mag .356Mag, .38spl, and more recently the past decade .40 and .357SIG, and I have to say I shoot any one of them, just as well as any other. The first 9mm I shot was a CZ Shadow 2 and yeah it felt like an airgun, and even considered checking to see if I had a squib, but I didn't shoot any better than any of my pistols. If you carry to defend an up close personal attack then yeah, 9mm is great for that circumstance if the threat turns to a deadly force threat, but you're still looking at draw time, where physical force or a knife may be a slightly better option. I like my pistol/ammunition combination to have at or over 500ftlbs of energy at the muzzle. 9mms don't meet that standard, especially with the sub4" barrel options that are dominating the market right now. A small 9mm is fine as a compromise for when your attire cannot facilitate properly concealing a standard size or compact pistol, and honestly, my P229 is nearly as concealable as my Reflex (11rnd mag in reflex). Honestly, I would have gone with a version of the 365 over the reflex, if they had a factory trigger safety device. I should have gone a 365 with a manual safety, but wasn't thinking about it at the time, when I bought the Reflex, which did have a trigger safety. Honestly, though, like I said, it's not that much more concealable than my P229, so I don't really see myself investing in another small 9mm.

Very versatile gun that I use for competition and home defense. I put a Hogue rubber grip and Gray Guns flat trigger on it, otherwise stock. DA/SA provides a level of safety and is easy to get used to. Also, M&P Shield for CCW, Beretta Elite LTT, and 1911 in 9 mm for competition.

I’ve got a 226 in .40, and it’s a great gun. However, it’s fat grip for my smallish hands and the DA/SA takes a little getting used to. The grip isn’t unworkable though, and it shoots well.

The slide stop/release. Buy the legion style level its much smaller and fixes the issue entirely. Carried a 226 now 15 years. Armory craft reduced mass hammer with grayguns ELS (enhanced leverage system) trigger and trigger bar. Greatest improement you can make. I have $4000 in my P226 in all the Grayguns Armory craft trijicon optic plates threated barrels extra grips adjustable triggers spring kits guide rods... If its made for a DA/SA 226, i have it. The biggest improvement is the grayguns ELS trigger package and armory craft hammer. I even tried it with grayguns commander hammer and AC trigger. Should say triggers. 😂. Beyond that the AC smooth action kit is a slight improvement. The sig armorer improved hammer strut helps but very slight feel in noticing the improvement. My my complete final build is a P226 with AC smooth action kit and reduced mass hammer with the AC gas pedal, the GG trigger kit and captured guide rod an spring, sig armor hammer strut. Trijicon RCR (previous steiner MPS with apex acro plate) XS mid ht suppressor sights (best for covering up less of the red dot window) sig crome lined threaded barrel with rugged obsidian griffin cam lok hogue extended tacops grips and the sig legion decocker and slide stop/release. Topped off with surefire 300X.

Always wanted to have one of these pistols and/or a Beretta 92FS. They look so cool and I have heard they both handle super well. In terms of long term reliability and durability, the 226 might just be the strongest of semi-auto pistols. Although the later Berettas with enhanced locking blocks might have just as much longevity. Really need to try them both at a range. I have a feeling I will like shooting the Beretta slightly more. Bill Wilson says they are the softest shooting 9mms ever.

I love my DA/SA, and my pistol of choice has been a CZ-75. It is my open carry gun, and was for a long time the best shooting handgun in my collection. I was mad when I got my P226 and took it out, because it felt so much better to shoot than my CZ, and this was right after spending like $250 on a holster for my CZ.

I'm used to the DSA trigger on my P226 and have no issues with it. If there is a problem, it is that the grip is too large. I would prefer a smaller grip. My hands are large, actually X-large, and I still prefer something smaller like on my P220, the .45 cal version. The 220 fits my hand better than the 226. Both are great guns as anyone who owns one knows.

Where I live Im now allowed to have a real firearm, but I have a Sig Sauer X-Five pellet air pistol made by Sig, and for its price it is fantastic. Sig claims the trigger is as close to the real one as possible. It is very good for an air pistol. For the 220 euros I paid I dont think I can get a better co2 blowback air pistol. By the time I can afford to join a pistol club and shoot a gold series, ( 46 out of 50 points on 25 meters. Requires for a license) my 9mm choice will most likely be the real firearm.

Did anyone else notice that, right around 5:45, the narrator is talking about the gun not needing a manual safety and speaks of "thumbing the decocking lever". But right at that moment, the video displays the Single Action Only version of the P226, where a safety lever is clearly pictured?

Both my Sig 226 (W. German made) and my gen 3 Glock 34 are accurate but the Sig’s trigger reset is a bit long. I tend to reach for the Glock more often even though the Sig is buttery smooth.

Best thing I ever did was change out the slide catch to a P224 slide catch lever and put on some Tac Ops model grip panels, which I had to "modify" a bit to fit the P224 slide catch lever. The gun is the best DA/SA pistol in my arsenal. The Legion is overrated. Put some Trijicon HD orange sights or get a slide fit for an optic and you will never look back.

The Sig Sauer 226 Nirton DA/SA with the 9 mm threaded barrel would have been my second pistol purchace, but, the Trudeau Government Public Safety Pistol Ban came into effect. I liked its features that came with it (what I saw of it in the 2012 catalogs). I liked that other caliber kits could also be bought for it as well, like .40 Smith & Wesson, .357 Sig and .22 lr. Unforunately, I think that model with the 9 mm threaded barrel is discontinued. I wish they would bring it back but with some additional featured and industry imporovements. I would of liked to have seen front slide surations, optics ready slide, night sight ready and come in DA/SA/DA Plus. Would of been nice to see the other caliber barrel kits come in threaded barrels as well. So far the closest 226 that I have shot that comes to this model was the Sig Sauer 226 Navy DA/SA, another nice version of the 226.

No mention of the DAK trigger on some models? I just bought an LE trade in with the DAK. I will be changing the trigger to a DA/SA. The trigger pull is heavier on the first reset than the second reset. That is counterintuitive to me and I do not care for it. This is something people need to be aware of before they buy one. It will cost me about $150 to make the change. Other than that, I love this gun.
