Great review... I must say though, I've been trusting my life to my P220 for 13 years and it hasn't had even a single malfunction.

I have a 227 in FDE with night sights. Love it!! I carry it everywhere and train with it every week. In the right holster it can be carried concealed. Which I do everyday. When you hold and shoot this gun you know you're holding a badass piece of firepower

Thanks for defending me there dude! Length of the vid is always content driven. Covering the details of an item can be done in 10 minutes. But why watch a video for that? Just go to mfr website. Included in each review are interesting revelations and application philosophy. Quality viewers always have appreciated that and we connect in these discussion.

I'm amazed at the amount of people that seem to have A.D.D. and complain about the length of the videos. It's a thorough, complete, and honest review. Wouldn't you like to know all of the fine tooth details if you're interested in something? For me, I love the "long" and detailed reviews. By the way Nutn, I think you just made Sig a sale with this one. I need to go handle one now.

Your tip about modifying the P250 mags to work with the P227 is priceless. I haven't been able to find P227 mags anywhere and I now have 5 functioning mags for my P227 instead of two. Thanks very much and keep up the good work.

One of the things I like about the Model P220 is the 8 round single stack magazine. I like Single stack Mags and thinner grip frames. Guns I like besides the P220 are the S&W Model 4506-1 (3rd Generation 45acp) and the S&W Model 645 (2nd Generation 45acp).

I've gotta say that I have had zero "P220-like issues" in my P220. Like. NONE. My P220 has performed with "P226-like reliability"! My round count is between 5k-5.3k. I'm on my 2nd recoil spring and extractor, replaced as preventative maintenance. It was the first handgun I bought, and I love it. I'll be getting the P227 in a full size because my P220 is Carry size and the slides/frames are interchangeable. P220 + P226 = P227 = WIN.

TJ Sulkowski dig my P220R also, reliable accurate and fun to shoot and yeah same here no issues i got mine in 2013 and it still tow's the line three years later.. zero issues. i had one bad primer from a range reload at a local range and they had to punch out the round and admit that their ammo didnt funtion and caused a malfuntion. but from factory ammo never a bobble i three years... :)

nutnfancy, spot on review. The undercut of the trigger guard, higher grip makes this SIG a well controlled pistol for defense situations (full sized) and WROL. Double taps on 2 - 6 inch rings at 20 yards demonstrates the excellent recall control. I am very happy with the purchase. I also agree on the trigger upgrade... SIG will come around... in the meantime thank you for the video (trigger upgrade) was AWESOME... thx.

The Army is looking to replace the M9, I think this would be a good choice. The mode of operation is very similar and I like the fact that the .45 ACP is a sub sonic round. It makes using a sound suppressor more effective.

@icer190
@icer190 10 жыл бұрын
muffemod It's long been my experience that there is a negligible difference in recoil between a full size 9mm and a full sized .45 ACP. Add into the fact that they're different styles of recoil, snappy versus a push, and it's not exactly comparable. Then again, I also carry a mid-sized 9mm.

I'll stick with my P220 and 1911's, I love these guns. The additional capacity is a nice feature, but if I can't stop someone with 8+1 and an extra 8round mag or two, I'm in deeper than a pistol is useful for anyway.

As I said, I'm in deeper than a pistol is useful for in a scenario like that. Unless you're hitting all head shots (don't count on it), pistols are really only useful for when you can't have a rifle or shotgun on you or in a one on one encounter. I'd rather have a pistol on me than no weapon at all, but they're really only mean to be a sidearm.

Mike Bircher No one can tell you how to defend yourself , I agree I don't go looking for a reason to use my hand gun . And I don't think the odds are in favor of me getting in a pitch gun battle. You are right in majority of instances by the numbers only 5 rds are fired within a distance of 3 -10 feet. Honestly changing mags rarely happens in conceal carry situations but. I am only questioning you philosophy of " oh well not enough ammo " , I carry noting under 10 rounds i prefer to carry 15+ in 9mm . But if god forbid 2-4 people rushed me 8 isn't gonna cut it . I have seen video and had hours of training rehashing and going over this it , life rarely takes places the way we plan it. People have been killed while armed. I think you have the right overall mindset , yet you chose to surrender a level of safety for no reason . That being said good luck not making a stupid youtube i was only asking a question of your logic behind your statement

I'm calling it now, the SigSauer P series will be the pistol(s) that replace the Beretta M9. The 226 fills the 9mm role and this 227 fills the .45 role... And if its needed, the 229/224 fill the compact pistol role. All in virtually the same platform of a pistol that has been tested and combat proven. Hopefully the Army gets their shit together. If the Sig is good enough for the Seals, its probably good enough for everybody else ;)
@HooahMarines
@HooahMarines 11 жыл бұрын
Thats what you'd think. The P226 should have one the replacement contract for the 1911. It did, in fact, out perform the M9. The M9 armory package was cheaper, however, and we all know how cheap our government can be. The Sig outshot the M9, out lasted the M9 in torture tests, but it all boiled down to cost. The Sig was cheaper for the gun, but replacement parts and such were more expensive than the M9. Hopefully they change their mind soon. The M9 is a great gun, but there have been injuries caused by M9 slide failures, which is what led to the adoption of the P226/M11 by the SEAL teams.
@sergeantbigmac
@sergeantbigmac 11 жыл бұрын
Well if you know anything about the military you'd know that is nothing new haha! They routinely take the cheapest bid that still meets their requirements. Rarely does the military have the best of the best of gear... they have gear that meets the minimum spec requirements. (take that however you will) With that said, ive heard conflicting reports about those pistol trials. What ive come to discern is that the m9 and 226 were actually more closely matched then what you described. But the Army prematurely picked the m9 because of its price without letting Sig enter another potentially lower bid. Unfairly screwing over Sig!

Im still hopeful that the Army wises up this time and picks the P series. They have only improved since the 80's! I have nothing against glocks, but I hope that isnt what they decide to go with...
@HooahMarines
@HooahMarines 11 жыл бұрын
Glocks are cheap and reliable and they have a massive capacity. They wouldn't be a half bad choice. I do have a Sig P226 and I absolutely love it, and I can se why the SWC chose to go with it.
@sergeantbigmac
@sergeantbigmac 11 жыл бұрын
Ya theyre not bad at all, I just think the 226 is a much better choice is all. With that said Glocks are cheaper, which probably means the Army will choose them....ugh

Have performed thousands of autopsies. 9mm +P that met or exceeded 1300fps seemed to outperform the standard pressure 45's. Now if you compare them with hot 45 rounds that may be a different story but the idea that a 45 is always better than a 9mm is outdated thinking. Some would say "Oh, but our soldiers have shot Taliban, Iraqis, insert enemy of choice, multiple time and they didn't stop fighting!" Yeah well they were shooting ball ammo. No comparison to civilian ammo. It is wrong that our military has to shoot less effective ammo than civilians. NATO BS.

Camera man in this one is me and Cr0cket20 is all. I do have lots of offers to run the camera but it is perhaps the most critical job. It speaks, creates drama, explains, and sets the tone. I always prefer to be the cameraman but have to balance that with item testing and hands on experience. Also if a crew is having a hard time hitting (happens!) I got to step up and try to represent the capabilities of the gun accurately. We talk about this lots off camera.

Hey bud, last weekend I picked up a P227 from the workplace and I'm happy to say I couldn't love it more. I was really torn between this, a 1911(A1) pattern firearm, and just about every other .45 ACP on the market. When I got my hands on the pistol for the first time, I loved everything about it; the way it points, feels, lines up... the gun just fit. Maybe it's not for everybody, but it is damn sure for me: likely a firearm I'll keep for the rest of my life. Thanks for the review you put up, I watch it among a multitude of others and was thoroughly enjoyed that the majority of information was spot on. Also, a side note on accessories, magazines are a total pain to get ahold of as far as the P227 goes and nobody makes a holster for it, but I found that Blackhawk's double stack mag holder and SERPA P229 holster are perfect fits. The holster had to do some "adjusting" (a.k.a. me force-fitting the holster with the pistol while it shaved out the rough spots) but the set up works. Thanks for the info!

I carry a P226, it's great. . . never second guess a solid built firearm that operates! Have both, they are slightly different. Only difference is the effectiveness of the cartridge and the operator. . . he claims the guns almost weigh, shoot and feel the exact same. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Fair comment but it's not really a bias I think and not suited in just magazine capacity. See my 1911 POU video posted two years ago, all is addressed in that. The P227 is a pull and shoot gun with hammer drop and more ammo at a much lighter weight than the 1911 steel frame. It is a modern combat pistol in those terms and for most POUs preferred by me. I still love the 1911 but it's not a GTW pistol for me.

i own a SIG P220 and i like it alot, one of my favorite features is the "DECOCKER" that makes the sig saucer "P" series of pistols unique. that the U.S. NAVY uses the pistol speaks well for SIG. it's a great gun. wether 9mm or .45 ACP a SIG is as good platform to launch your bullets down range. the reliability is legendary, accuracy out of the box is also the subject of alot of videos and discussions. even though they are expensive i'm glad i bought one.

If I remember correctly (I'm too lazy to google it while typing this) Sig was developing a double stack .45 in the late 90's called the P221. The problem then was the grip was too wide for the magazine capacity. I'm so glad that Sig finally did it. From what I learned, the P227's main spring housing different to reduce front-strap to main spring size.I'd be very happy with a 12 rounder to minimize "stick out."

Never! Just found out the ext 34/35 slide release 34/35 work perfectly on it and installed one on the 21, NICE!! Glock 'Perfection' is a WELL DESERVED MONIKER! I was right there with you on the 4th gen's mistakes' on the dual-captive recoil springs TILL mid 2012 after they 'de-kinked it' and I shot it, and was sold! Waiting on my next 'baby', a FDE Gen 4 G34, can't wait to try the new beavertail backstraps. Keep up the good work sir, hope to see another life lesson vid soon too!

Excellent review! I got mine a couple of weeks ago and put about three hundred rounds though the weapon and it has performed without any hiccups. It has eaten the steel case ammo without any problems. My dilemma is if I want to use the 226 or the 227 as my home defense weapon. Keep up the good work on these reviews!

TNPer from Florida here! Damn I wish I could talk to nutn from time to time. I bought a Sig P226 combat and I traded up from an old West German Sig P226. Something was different and I couldn't put my finger on it.After watching this I learned about the Short Trigger which I also hate! My 226 combat has it.. Also there is something different with the grip that I can't put my finger on either.
