Why the hell would anyone ever shoot anything but brass in a firearm that costs more than a couple hundred bucks?
@countryboyguns
@countryboyguns 3 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends. I really want to buy an AK, but a decent one costs over $1K these days. I'd still shoot a ton of steel cased ammo through it. Maybe during an ammo shortage that's all you can find to train with. Maybe you decided to save up with a very inflexible budget to buy a quality gun and quality accessories for it but you can't afford quality ammo for training, so you get steel because it gives you more practice for the limited funds you can spend on ammo. My philosophy has changed on this over the years if I'm being honest. I used to have a hard line on not running steel cased ammo through anything except my commie guns. These days I still prefer brass for practice and nickel for defensive ammo, but I wouldn't have any issue with using steel case if that's all I can get my hands on. That being said, everyone is different and there is no "right" answer as far as I'm concerned.
@2S1L3NT
@2S1L3NT 3 жыл бұрын
@@countryboyguns Well to be fair all I've ever run in my AKs and 7.62x39 AR's is steel case... but that's basically the only option for that caliber as well. Brass is available, but theres no point in running it or paying that price. Also, the case taper is designed to release steel case without issue. Nobody should be shooting straight wall steel case in any firearm though. It's not soft enough to release correctly.
@countryboyguns
@countryboyguns 3 жыл бұрын
Here again, I tend to agree with you, but I also see exceptions to that thought process. I don't think using steel cased .45 acp or .38 special as bad depending on the circumstances. Training is training and getting 20% more live fire reps is significant, especially if money is a factor. And if someone is using steel cased ammo for defensive use because that's all they can afford or all they can find, then I can't fault them. If I had to choose between throwing a Glock 30 at a bad guy or firing a steel cased 230 grain .45 acp at them, I'd choose the crap ammo all day long. I definitely still prefer better ammo, even for practice or just for fun, but there is still value in having a cheap bang vs no bang when you pull the trigger.

I recently purchased a SIG 365. Cleaned it went to the range and out of a box of fifty rounds I had Seven failure to extract. The extractor spring was so weak I could push the extractor with my finger. Back at home I removed the extractor spring, it was quite weak. I replaced it with a much stiffer extractor spring. Back at the range today I ran two hundred rounds with no problem. I intend to carry it after I run another three hundred rounds through it.

I've only ever had Sig factory parts in that gun. I've sent it back twice and the first time they replaced the extractor and slide. I don't remember if they replaced the extractor spring, but it wouldn't surprise me given that they replaced 2 other major parts that required removal of the spring.

Did you guys clean the sig gunk out before firing straight out of the box? I didn't and was experiencing failure to return to battery. Cleaned all the sig preservative crap out of there and haven't had that issue since. But, sometimes when I put in a fresh mag the slide closes on it's own, and when that happens- the slide doesn't stay open when the mag is empty. Totally weird.
@countryboyguns
@countryboyguns 3 жыл бұрын
That's a whole hodge podge of weird issues. I don't typically clean my guns before firing them. I'll check the bore for obstructions or machine marks and look the parts over to make sure nothing is broken or wonky looking. I don't even usually add lube to dry guns right out of the box. I want to see how it'll perform as it's sold to the consumer before I start doing anything, but that's just my methodology. I definitely don't think it's a bad idea to give a gun a thorough cleaning out of the box.

Not to bash Sig or praise Springfield but my Hellcat is around 700 rounds in with a variety of bullets including hollow points, and lots of reloads including 147gr and 124gr flat points and 115gr fmj. Just saying, if you carry a weapon, it needs to be reliable.
@countryboyguns

My point exactly! I want a Hellcat so bad I can taste it...but back to the point at hand, that's why I focused on this gun so much more than others. I REQUIRE reliability in a gun that I may carry for defensive purposes. To me, that's a non negotiable point. I'm glad your Hellcat is running well for you. If my standard 365 after warrantee work ends up being reliable, I'd love to compare the two platforms and see which one I like better, so your experience bodes well for that video (series?). Great video. I just picked one up that was made on 4 Feb 2021. My first time taking it to shoot didn't go as well as I hoped. I only fired around 50 rounds through it, but had 6 or 7 times where it failed to properly feed the next round and the slide was still slightly open with the round not fully seated in the barrel. I'm going to give the gun another chance considering it was brand new, and I was using terrible blazer ammo (the only gun I can get that ammo to run in without problems is my glock 17). I haven't experienced any failures to extract yet, but I'll keep a lookout.

@countryboyguns
@countryboyguns 2 жыл бұрын
I already called them once over this gun (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIGmfGaNpL2hfdE) and the first rep I talked to basically blamed me, saying essentially that I shouldn't expect the gun to be reliable until I had at least 1000 rounds of premium (aka expensive) defensive ammo through it as a break in period, which I don't think any modern firearm should require. The second time I called, they created an RMA and a shipping label for me (kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYq8fINodqd9nck). I showed the slip documenting the work they performed in this video, and I had this issue after that warrantee work. I'm still willing to give the gun and Sig a chance, but I don't feel like going through that whole ordeal again and spending my money on today's ammo prices to most likely run into another problem with the gun. If Sig wants to change my mind on this gun, I would love to chat with them and discuss what that process looks like and I would do so open mindedly and give the gun another fair shake.

I'm having FTE's (Double feeds) withe my ZEV 365xl with the updated extractor..started with 115gr after 400rds it was happening once or twice every 100rds after that. Switched to 124gr and it was humming along for roughly 350rds or so than it started up again. One thing I noticed is the spring tension is much lighter than the the extractor on my standard 365 circa 2018. I'm gonna start out changing the spring and see how that goes....I should add this is a ZEV slide I assembled with factory Sig components..

Found your channel while trying to figure out problems that started occurring after just 1 box of ammo through my Sig P-365. First indication was that the slide failed to stay open when my mag was empty. I tried a new full 12 rd mag and it jammed when I tried to put a round into the chamber. In fact it jams EVER time I try. So I decided to clean it. The slide lock wont hold the slide back when I try that. The slide lock wont hold with an empty mag. I'll try reaching out to Sig Sauer now but my 1st impression of this pistol is not good at all. Like you, I just bought a new holster for it after using it twice. All these issues arose after just one box of ammo was run through it. Thanks for doing this video.

With that being said I had the trigger spring breakage two time with both times with approximately 4,000 rounds each time. I’m now very proactive with replacing the trigger spring around 3,000 rounds in and with no issue. I do rotate the sig with my SW 9 shield plus pro performance. My SW again has around 8,000-9,000 rounds with zero malfunction. Love both weapons but I treat the sig trigger spring like the battery in my optics…I change both yearly. I bought a Sig 365 three weeks ago (July 2024). I only touched it when I took the course at the dealer (to familiarize myself with the gun and learn the basics of shooting). Inside the gray plastic box (just like yours), came the gun and three 12-round magazines. At the familiarization class, the gun jammed exactly like you showed in your video after less than 20 shots. The policeman teaching the class managed to remove the bullet and told me my gun needed lubrication. When I got home, I sprayed the lubricant I bought at the shop, removed the excess and a week later went back to the range to try it out for the second time. It did not jam again, but one interesting thing happened: one bullet "refused" to fire. I removed it from the chamber a couple of times and put it back in the magazine, but for some reason it would not fire. It would stay in the chamber and I had to take it off. It is the very first time I use guns, and I must say I am a little disappointed with this SIG 365, after being told by a few acquaintances that this guns is the best in its class. I was going to go for a Glock of the same size, but ended up getting the SIG 365. For me, the jury is still out on this gun.

I'm really sorry to hear that this was your first experience. Unfortunately, every type of gun can have problems. I made this video to show my experiences with this particular one and to point out that I've had more problems with this gun than any other gun in its class. Yours could end up being completely fine or could be a lemon. As for the round that would not fire, I would completely blame that on the ammo and not the gun. Again, things happen with ammo just like with guns or any other manufactured thing. At the end of the day, your comfort and confidence in what you carry is the deciding factor. If you're not confident or comfortable, then try something else. I've heard a lot of praise of this gun, but I've also heard a lot of criticism and I've experienced several issues myself that I've documented in multiple videos. Please continue down this path of owning, using, and carrying guns and find whatever works best for you. Thank you for joining the gun owning community and thank you for your comment. If I can be of help in any way going forward, I'm happy to do so.

Paint it blue. Paint the magazine rainbow. Gold plate your FN 5.7, swing your X-frame revolver cylinder shut like cool cowboy guy. had two 365 failure to extract same way after shooting steel case magtech. Both guns had a few thousand rounds through them, on the range, but one was my carry gun. When failure started it progressed to failing with good brass. part of issue is weak design, but also battering out the stuck cartridge since they would expand and not easy to extract. not happy with Sig dancing around the issue after calling support. I just recently purchased the new Rainbow P365 380 and went to the firing range to shoot off 300 rounds. The first 10 shots....well lets just say it didn't make it past the 4th one, I was so disappointed because I spent over $600 for this beauty. I had the salesman come into the room with me to see if there was something I was actually doing wrong and the same thing happened with him, this time it was around the 7th one. He said it was a defected bullet, so he went to get another box to try and it happened again around the 5th shot. So we went through some drills, focused on how I was loading the gun, how I was positioning my hands on the firearm and how I was pulling and releasing the chamber. After a few tries, the next 10 rounds went smoothly but unfortunately, that was short lived. Needless to say, I am very frustrated and I don't want to give up on the P365 because the gun itself is beautiful, the size is perfect for a female to carry. However, you want quality and dependability when you have to use this weapon for protection. Also not, I too just purchased a beautiful leather/suede holster to protect the chamber of this beauty so I hope that with more target practice it would be an opportunity for the "weapon" to redeem itself...the failure to eject is not something you want to experience during a life/death situation.

Before I do I am going to take the firing pin striker assembly out and do a good clean including the firing pin channel. which has to be 100% dry. I haven't had any issues but did notice a problem. When loading a mag if those rounds aren't seated all the way at the back of the mag it looks like it would cause a ftf. I'm always careful when loading my mags but it does raise the question if my mag gets jossled around too much could it produce a ftf
@countryboyguns
@countryboyguns 3 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know, and I think that depends on the gun, the mags, and the ammo. I personally check my defensive guns every time I pull them out of the safe. Whether I'm carrying them, bringing them along in a vehicle, or just putting them next to the bed I always check the chamber, any safeties, optics, lights, and mags. Part of my mag check is to slap the back of the mag to make sure all the rounds are as far to the rear as possible to give the gun the best chance of cycling properly. That being said, I've never noticed a failure due to ammo getting jossled a bit forward, and I even have some guns that will pull rounds forward in the mag as they're cycling and they still run fine even then.

Very disappointed in mine. Just bought it YESTERDAY! Born on date 10-27-2020. Very first shot was a stovepipe failure to extract. I was shooting my carry ammo which is underwood extreme defender 90 grain. First 2 mags had 4-5 failures to return to battery! Switched up to American Eagle 115 grain fmj's and ran 2 mags ok. Took it back out this morning and ran 2 mags of 124 grain sig vcrown elite JHP's and again had 4-5 failures to return to battery! Again switched to the AE 115 gr fmj's and ran 2 mags ok. So disappointed that my new $600 gun will not consistently run neither of my carry ammo's. With the ammo situation such as it is I can't, at this time, fire enough ammo through it to "break it in" and test it enough to bet my life on it. My $240 Taurus G2C will remain my EDC for now as I have 2500 flawless rounds through it with ALL types of ammo. Steel, aluminum, brass, reloads, several types of hollow points and the underwood's with ZERO issues. If Taurus can build such a cheap gum that will run any ammo flawlessly OUT OF THE BOX, then WHY CAN'T SIG SAUER? I'm extremely concerned about this gun at this point. It'll just go in my safe until I'm able to get enough ammo to properly test it. 😥

@@countryboyguns so I have an update. After running 150 rounds of fmj's through it today with no malfunctions I was able to run 20 rounds each of both of my carry ammo's through it with no issues. May e it's finally "broke in". It still concerns me that it had so many failures to return to battery out of the box. The issue APPEARS to be ironed out now but I still can't trust it as my edc until I am able to run a lot more ammo through it. I want to run 500 more fmj's and 100 more self defense rounds through it with no malfunctions before I start carrying it. Hopefully I can find enough ammo to be able to do that soon.

I decided to take the extractor out and cleaned it and the extractor channel in the slide with a q-tip and lightly oiled it and it has been reliable for 140 rounds so far, I need to shoot it more but I'm hoping it was just a cleaning issue. Bought mine in 2020 and just had my first failure. Light primer strike. Win white box. Has me scared to carry it now. I have 300-400 rounds through it. Is one light primer strike worth sending back to sig for? Thanks.
@countryboyguns
@countryboyguns 2 жыл бұрын
I honestly can't answer that for you. It could be ammo, possibly some debris in the striker channel, or maybe even something else. I wouldn't personally be very concerned about a single light strike on practice ammo. If it were me, I'd put another box or so of practice ammo through it and see what happens. Maybe even a mag of carry ammo if I was still unsure after that. At the end of the day, your personal comfort level with the gun is what's the most important.

I'm sorry to hear yet another story of an unreliable gun that's supposed to be a self defense piece. I will say that Sig made extensive changes to my gun once I sent it back to them and I'm hopeful that it's 100% reliable now. That being said, I haven't had the time or ammo to really ensure that it's fixed yet. I definitely trust my early production Shield, so I'm a fan of your choice there.

@@countryboyguns I’m coming up on about 800 rds i guess. If ammo prices were pre covid I’d prob have several thousand through it. I honestly haven’t noticed any primer drag with mine unless i inspect the primers under a magnifying glass. But with a naked eye striker/primer drag is minimal. I also have not experienced any light strikes and i carry mine with 1 itc daily. I did buy a backup striker from sig that is pretty much ready to drop in if there are any malfunctions. I don’t ever want to be without my daily carry pistol. It’s the only thing that makes me feel safe these days. I think mfg date on mine is sep 20 so it’s a little over a year old. I take good care of it too which could make a difference. I clean my gun religiously after i shoot it. I don’t want gun powder residue to corroded my pistol and making it less reliable. Anyway that’s my .02$ and hope it helps..

That's great! I also appreciate the level of security my guns allow me and my family to achieve. I'm also one of those people who cleans their guns after every range trip. I know that it's not necessary so long as basic maintenance is kept up, but I enjoy cleaning guns and it also gives me an opportunity to inspect them for wear/damage. I will say that I was somewhere around the 7/800 round point with my 365 before it failed me, which is why I have a 1000+ round requirement for that gun before I'll trust it enough to carry it. All of that is, of course, just my opinion, and it's worth exactly what you paid for it haha.

Only thing I can think of is user error. Over 1000 rounds and 4 years of carry on my 365xl and zero issues. I say user error because the only time I had failure to eject is because I was thumbing the slide lock, which resulted in these failures to eject. Once I corrected my grip, all those issues went away.

I wonder if some guys with big hands interfere with the slide on such a small gun. Could that cause malfunctions?
@countryboyguns
@countryboyguns 3 жыл бұрын
It definitely can. I've never seen a malfunction on a handgun come from putting pressure on the side of the slide (with the thumbs for example) except maybe on a .22. I have seen (and experienced) malfunctions from part of the hand getting in the way of the rearward motion of the slide from the back of the gun however. That's why people with larger hands tend to prefer beavertails on the rear of their handguns. Great question!

Purchased a 365 XL and love it besides the fact that the magazines are extremely tight I can load them it's not a thing of not being able to load them or whatever it's just they're so tight over time not breaking in and they're marking the casings even n the bottom of the slide when mag is put in the gun. About to reach out to Sig and go from there .

My mags are pretty tight too. I haven't had any issues getting them to load to capacity or to seat on a closed slide, but I do need to give them a bit of extra umph. Might not be a bad idea to buy another mag before you reach out to them. If it's the same way, then it's probably not warrantee worthy. If the new mag gives you less trouble, then you'll have an extra and hopefully they can help you with the originals.

@@countryboyguns - Yeah, the slide lock issue is not the fault of the gun for sure .. that's all me 😁 I personally love my P365 and believe it is perhaps the best EDC currently available, at least for a micro sized carry pistol. I have troubles concealing my P320-RXP XCompact except during winter months. I am not really very good at concealing, it's just my body type that makes it a little difficult. The P365 is easy though, it's so small. A larger firearm is definitely much easier to manufacture for reliability, as soon as you get this small it becomes difficult to achieve solid reliability. It's just the way it is. Nothing is perfect, but I believe the P365 is pretty darned good. I dislike some of the people out there that act as though Sig purposefully makes flawed firearms. There isn't a manufacturer on the planet that hasn't had issues with their firearms. Sig seems to address issues rapidly, as they should .. they have a vested interest in doing so. Overall I believe Sig Sauer is a solid and reputable manufacturer and I will continue to buy and use their products for many years to come. I am not wedded to Sig, I own many other firearms, but I use what works best for me as I believe everyone should. I do like many Sig products though. There are so many good guns out there. I'm assuming you want it for concealed carry? If you want a handgun for home defense, range fun, to keep in the vehicle, etc, I'd recommend a more full size handgun. For concealed carry, I can recommend the Sig P365XL, S&W Shield, Springfield XDs, and Glock 43 from experience. I would also feel comfortable with a Glock 43x or 48, Springfield Hellcat, or FN 503. I don't have any personal experience with any of those guns, so I can only say that I think they're good options based on what I know and what people I trust are saying about them. There are even other options as well, and this is all just staying in the same genre as the P365 if that's the kind of gun you're looking for. Great question. i have had so many issues with my P365XL and I’m only about 150 rounds in. Mostly notably failure to feed from the magazine with 3-5 hollow point rounds left.The 12 round magazines fail to fully seat all the time with one good hard tap, making me paranoid and have to check it’s seated with two or three taps and sometimes a pull. It’s also very inaccurate for some reason. The Glock 43X is SO much more accurate when I shoot it. I hate the presentation angle, and I hate the flat trigger. It’s a beautiful thing, but that’s where it ends. What good are 12 round mags if you can only shoot 7 bullets? I never should have cheated on Glock.

Honestly, I've never sold a gun in my life, so I can't make any recommendations on that.
