Sold the 365. The grip is just too small. It’s like holding the box toothpaste comes in under a gun. It made me shoot my other handguns poorly because of the adjustment made for gripping it. M&P for sure, and it shoots softer for that second or third follow up round.

They basically did come out with a double stack Shield. The M&P 2.0 Subcompact. It's thicker and slightly longer, but you get twelve rounds for carry and the 17 round full size mags will fit in it for the range. As a armed professional that carries both on the job and in my personal life. The Smith & Wesson Shield is the epitome of what others are trying to achieve. Thus far I think the Sig 365 is about as close as anyone has come to the shield. My agency has the shield on the approved list and that's what I carry. The Sig 365 has been tested by my agency and is not currently on the approved list. Not to be long-winded but I agree with your assessment of these two platforms. Sig hit it out of the park with the P365 features and design. Maximum capacity and minimal size. The trigger breaks at a nice point, not too far back like many other pistols. The only issue a lot of people seem to have is that it may be too small for a lot of people to hold comfortably, which is why those people usually go with the 12 round mag. My hand fits perfectly with the 10 round mag with the extended pinky grip so I'm in love with it. The $250 price tag on the 1.0 shield definitely has me interested in getting one as a backup/beater gun though. I'm sure you can't go wrong with the P365 or the Shield, just pick what fits best for you.

I read most of the comments below. I agree with all the positive comments. The P365 is about the same size as the Taurus PT111/G2c. One thing I can NOT get past is the high malfunction rate of the Sig. (go to KZbin, enter Sig P365 problems) Like Taurus, sig uses a round wire in the recoil spring and there is video of the Sig failing to go into battery. I have all M&P's and have never had a malfunction, plus my slides are an odized stainless steel.
@KSGunGuy015 жыл бұрын
On KZbin, you can enter any manufacturer name and follow it up with "problems". You'll find that there are issues to one degree or another with every gun out there. The P365 is much smaller than the G2C, all things considered. Also, what does odized mean? Smith and Wesson has an Armornite finish. Thanks!

@@KSGunGuy01 Thank you for the correction. I meant anodized and you are correct it's called Armonite and it's on stainless steel. Fault with M*P's is the gap of feed lips of the magazine and not the fault of the actual pistol parts.

In the end I ended up with the Tac Pack 365, three 12 round mags etc. Also this version comes with the ambi thumb safety, which I dont mind at all. Nice thing about the safety is that you can operate the gun as far as racking the slide and loading one in the chamber, which in turn is useful for taking it out of the chamber. If you have a 1911 the safety is in a great place and your thumb easily sweeps over it, great placement. The engagement is audible and very tactile. Sights and ergos and trigger range from great to fantastic.

Before last year, I'd never felt compelled to own a weapon until a stranger decided to come into my home unannounced while I was there. Thankfully nothing bad happened after the confrontation. But afterward, I sat down to KZbin and started researching hand guns. I decided on one, went and purchased it, asked a friend of mine who had some property so he could teach me how to shoot. Went to the property with 3 other people and took turns shooting a 3" metal flapper from 50'. Nobody there ever fired/owned the gun I bought. Not knowing how proficient they were, after seeing them shoot. I thought, these guys' guns are out of whack. It seemed they couldn't shoot straight. It was my turn. I shot about 50 rounds. To everyone's amazement, I hit the bullseye every time. I'd never fired a handgun before. They didn't believe me. Then they shot my gun with about the same results. I shot theirs, they were all much heavier, bigger grip, etc. I had a more difficult time and couldn't hit the target as well. I am 5'7" and they were about the same. Our hands were all about the same. All I know is, the gun fit my hand well. It was comfortable, it did what I wanted. It shot straight and I could hit what I aimed at. Since then I've put about a 1000 rounds through it. Never a misfire or a jamb. I clean it every 200 rounds or so. I buy whatever FMJ copper that's on sale and never steel at the recommendation of the sales guy where I bought it. The gun, S&W Shield 9mm... not the 2.0. It still shoots like it was brand new and just as well with the same results and couldn't be happier with it. Then again, what do I know?

Thanks for doing this comparison. I had winnowed it down to these two for my next purchase. Between you and the Honest Outlaw, I have decided: if I can run across a deal for the M&P Shield 2.0 around 350 or 400 I will choose it and just replace the sights and buy extra mags. But since I have never had a small carry gun, I will have to adjust to whatever I choose anyway. The size adjustment for the P365 will be the only knock against it, and I will have to get used to anything regardless. Therefore, the best choice for me out of the box is the Sig. I have resisted the idea of buying the Sig, partly because I already have the P320 in 9mm and 5" barrel. I don't want to be a fan-boy of any name brand. I'm really just looking for the best within my price range. A CZ Shadow 2 is not in my range and it's too big. I have big, and I can't use them for concealed carry. I think even a 4" barrel will be uncomfortable. I haven't seen CZ competing on the sub compact field, and they would probably be too expensive again anyway. Nope. The P365 has won me, short of a lucky find with the Shield 2.0.

I purchased that same setup back in December! I tested the trigger and it breaks at 4.6 pounds which is amazing for an OEM trigger. It's now my pocket gun and im glad I purchased the one with the external safety. I love the gun but I still prefer my upgraded shield as a hip gun. I have big hands so I can't shoot the p365 with speed like I can with the shield. It's still a great gun and I think it's the best one for a female. If I had a wife or daughter the p365 is the one I would buy for them. It's basically all you need for Concealed Carry but it's not my top choice because of my hand size. Even with the hogue grip it doesn't feel as good as the shield in my hands. Im red/green color blind so the sights on the p365 doesn't work very well for me. Everyone has different hand sizes and eye's so there really is no perfect gun. Personally I think everyone should own both pistols because they're both awesome. Now I have the perfect pocket gun and the perfect hip gun for Concealed Carry 😁👍. It's good to have more than one small Carry pistol because it's what you're going to carry the most.

With all the problems Sig is having with it right now, there is no way in hell I"m spending $600, and then, have to send it in for repairs after 800 rounds. The Primer Drag & Broken Firing Pins shit needs to be addressed by Sig BEFORE they send another one out the door. I'll wait until next year on the P365 so they can solve the problems. For now though, I'll run and get the S&W M&P Shield 2.0 for $349.99 {maybe even cheaper), and the extension for 10+1 carry. Hell, who knows. Excellent review. So many great choices out there now, all but a few are excellent guns. So many people leave comments how they know the perfect handgun for self defensive carrying. They really only know what they like for themselves because not every gun is the best choice for everyone. I would say that reliability is the most important thing, next, hand size is the biggest factor for determining witch gun to get, what fits a persons hand best. Round count is another factor but carry an extra magazine, something everyone should do incase of mag failures, and the round count becomes less important although still real important in a gun fight. Make sure your choice is small and light enough so you will always have it on you, next, get one that you can hit stuff at close range without aiming, you just point it and shoot, and hit your close target because that is a real gunfight, first hit wins, second place, you're dead. Tactics, not fast draw will get you shooting first, never quick draw into a gunfight, always see what is about to happen and be holding your gun when it does, awareness and tactics not quickness gets your shots on target first, first = winning. You won't have the time or ability to aim with those new night sights, it's a close up, point and shoot game your going to be in, so get a gun you can point and hit, then practice that. If you shoot or dry fire at least twice a week, you can switch gun choices otherwise, stick to just one gun choice. I shoot a lot and go 50/50 between Glock 26 and Glock 43 depends on what I'm waring or the mood I'm in. I am like the G26 best with the +2 base plate, extra 2 rounds is nice but mostly I like that base plate because it's way easier to draw. Good luck with your tactics whatever you do.

Thanks for an excellent review. I own a 9mm 2.0 Shield -- love it. As they say, the grass is always greener, so I would like to try a 365, but my skepticism is in regards to mass/weight and recoil. Before buying the Shield, I carried an LCP-II 380 ACP, and the small size and recoil just killed my trigger hand. The Shield solved that problem, and I don't want to regress. Shooting the 365 should tell the tale for me.

Just for argument sake, by the time an apex trigger & after market sights are installed, the Shield costs as much or more as the 365. Just an observation. Our shields are excellent carry guns. We have no complaints. But this Sig is impressive and has promise.

I really like my P365. As of now I have 350 trouble-free rounds. However, I can see noticeable wear on the barrel and denting on the corners of the casing of the barrel opposite the feeder ramp. I also have a Sig M11-A1 and a P226 Legion SAO - both with many, many more rounds through them and they both show less wear than the P365 is showing. I do like the gun and enjoy shooting it. I got my hunters safety certificate when I was nine. My Uncle, Jim Brisbois, held classes in a church basement in San Mateo. I am now 53 & have shot only long guns my whole life and thought about hand guns being toys. I finally bought one after a friend of mine roused me " You don't even own one!" So I bought one, then another... I simply luv my P 226 and it's scorpion brother and discovered that I could actually hit the broadside of a barn with these silly little things. RE; Very little guns, I'm a huge Sig fan but I live in California and can't buy the Sig I want unless I want to bother a LE friend which I wont. That being said the shield is legal here and maybe a good fit. Thank you for the review! PS After I practiced a bit, never before owning one of these silly little things prior to last year, I discovered that I could shoot better as a lefty. I knew I was left eye dominant and would put pieces of tape on my shooting glasses to help my skeet scores. So I joined a local steel target shooting club as a right handed shooter and now shoot mostly as a lefty. After a year of practice I shot with my two friends who own maybe 10 hand guns each for the past 15 years and it was embarrassing. The only thing I reminded them was what I said before I ever got proficient with one of these little things. If you need to get something done in a hurry, use a shotgun...

I have owned the Sig P365 . with a born date of 28 June 2018. Although this was supposedly the third verison with all the fixes it still had severe striker drag on the primers and with the lingering unanswered reliability issues, I flipped it. Purchased the S&W Shield 2.0 9mm with integrated Crimson Trace green laser. This pistol out of the box out shot the P365, better trigger, better ergonomics, fit better in my hand, where the P365 only felt comfortable with the 12 round magazine. With the Magguts +2 kit installed on the flush fit 7 round mag, giving it a 9 round capacity, it sure cancels our the P365, which isn't worth the extra round for carry.

Hey man you may have figured this out but there are kydex guards that you can fit around just the trigger. If you want to pocket carry you can always get one of those and use some cord tied around a belt or belt-loop. Very good comparison. My thoughts after this: 1. If you could only have one, the P365 is thinner, smaller, which means the most comfortable and smallest practical and still be 9MM, which opens up your wardrobe. 2. If you could only have one, which is usually the case, the P365 is stainless, which means no rust, even after the finish gets scratched and being handled without wiping down the slide with oil. 3. If you could only have one, the P365 magazine can hold 10 rounds with no size or weight sacrifice, and magazine swaps increase your risk. 4. If you could only have one, the P365's barrel is center line is closer to hand thereby reducing muzzle jump. 5. If you could only have one, the P365 comes with sights that work at night, and thus could also be used for home defense as-is. 6. If you could only have one, the extra $150 for the P365 doesn't matter, and unless you are a gunsmith, if you replace the sights on the Shield, it already costs as much as a P365, without all of the other benefits. 7. From looking at the video it appears the P365 has more clearance for stuff to get into it from the top of the gun than the Shield 2.0. 8. If you conceal and carry other handguns, and are used to having your thumb in the area occupied by the slide on the P365, then you want the Shield 2.0. *Both guns can be ordered with safety features that are compliant for their state. Specs for Shield 2.0: - 20.21 oz. - Length 6.1", height 4.4", width 1.03" - Barrel length 3.1" - Magazine capacity 7 Specs for P365 - 17.8 oz. (However, when loaded with the 3 additional rounds...) - Length 5.8", height 4.3", width 1.00" - Barrel length 3.1" - Magazine capacity 10

I have an original run Shield in 9 and after nearly 2,000 rounds it has been absolutely flawless. I have been chasing the “perfect” CCW gun for years and no matter what I buy, I keep coming back to the Shield for size, reliability, accuracy and a proven platform. The 365 is overly concerning with the early run issues. I did upgrade the sights to TruGlo FTOs and I added some grip tape just to give it a little extra girth in my hand. That corrected my pulling-to-the-left groupings. I do with it had higher capacity but the trade off is right on par and realistically, I likely won’t need more than 9 to take care of business. If I do, I grab the backup mag I always carry.

I Have an MP shield 9mm off duty as per my Dept. The shield is great but never felt 100% in my hand when I grab it, however my wife’s MP shield 45 does. Maybe because it’s a little thicker and a 2.0 model with better grip surface . Just bought and shot my new P365 today. Never has a gun felt this good in my hand! Grip acquisition is immediate with zero adjustment. The trigger is smooth and with 100 rounds fired right out of the box not one malfunction. Recoil feels less than the shield. Really, this pistol is perfect. Holding 11 or 13 rounds you can’t beat the conceal-ability. Two gun store owners I met both carry the P365 and one has 2, the second as his back up. I Have a G19 as my service and as the owner stated to me the 365 shoots like a G19, in other words feels like a “big” gun. I agree. This could be my future EDC or a back up second gun to my MP 45 and perhaps my Beretta Pico 380 as a third emergency weapon. Which, by the way shoots like a little Ferrari. Get the P365 you won’t be sorry. The MP shield 9mm is good but the P365 is next level. I purchased 2 extra 12 round mags. A word of advice: GET SPEED LOADERS. These mags are very hard to load to full capacity. PS: out of the box for the first 50 rounds I experienced 3 dead triggers with the shield. Very scary like a cops bad dream where you’re pointing and trying to shoot pulling the trigger but the gun doesn’t fire...surreal actually. I was like WTF did I do swapping out my G26 for this nightmare. Our Dept range swapped out the recoil spring for me. No “dead” triggers after that. But I don’t think that was the problem. The S&W users manual states you need to “clean” the weapon first. New to me, I’m old school. The job would make you shoot your new gun out of the box with several 100 rounds even in the rain or snow repeatedly before you ever clean it. FYI for new Shield owners. Don’t freak out.

I’ve had both. I was so excited waiting for the Sig P365. I got it the first day it hit the store. Couldn’t wait to shoot it. Took it to the range and fired it. 100 rounds, and decided that I hated it. The way it felt in my hand, the trigger, and I was not at all accurate with it. I sold it for more than I paid, and got the Shield 2.0. So much better, in every way. I don’t know why anyone would want to change the trigger. In my opinion it’s perfect. That gun fits my hand great, it’s accurate as heck. I’ve never had a Glock 43, but I’m not a big Glock fan. I’ve had so many different ones, and sold all but a Gen 3 Glock 19. With that said, I’ve since acquired a S&W M&P 9 2.0 , and 2 M&P 9C 2.0s. For me, the S&W line is the best striker fired polymer handguns available. Not to knock Glock, I think they’re ok, but not the gold standard that many would have you believe. As far as the Sig... you can keep it. I did not like it at all. I also had a Sig P320, which I also hated. I liked the metal trigger, but nothing else. The high bore axis and front heavy feel. I guess I’m not a Sig guy. The best thing I’ve found about Sigs - they sell quickly, and you can make a few extra bucks too!

@mohawk33716 жыл бұрын
I carried the shield for the last 3 years, but considered getting the Sig p365. The thing that swayed me to stay with the shield is the unproven, and questionable,reliability, and durability of the firearm. As well as the reported grip issues inducing various malfunction. Yes the shield gives up 3 rounds in capacity, but this can be mitigated somewhat with a + 2 mag guts kit at the cost of only 1/4 of an inch in length. And it is extremely unlikely that the difference in capacity would play a role in any realistic self-defense scenario. So until the p365 accumulates a bit of a track record I will stick to the shield.

I always safety check and lock the slide or open the cylinder before handing my firearm to another, ALWAY'S it's the proper thing to do! Tough choice I can see why the Shield would be your choice! I'm on the opposite side, smaller hands and body frame so the P 365 wins for me. And yes for me more is better! Can’t go wrong with the Smith & Wesson Shield. You’re getting an extremely reliable firearm that’s approved by most LE agencies PLUS the occasional factory rebates! My daily is a gen 1 M&P shield 9 however I recently picked up a 2.0 plus for $324.99 after rebate! A far cry from a base Sig 365 @ $499.

Own both. The Shield gets carried more, although I think the 365 is a great little pistol too. The Shield just has that 'go to war' feeling that is hard to quantify or describe. The 365 is almost too small for my hands, and takes a fraction of a second longer to get a purchase on the gun. I still keep it around for deep concealment b/c it has a tendency to print less than the Shield. Bottom line, see what you shoot with better and go with that.

I have neither pistol. But, Inappreciate the objective appraisal. Makes me think. I do have the Sig 938. Happy with it.

Carried a Sig 1911 Nightmare Carry for the past 6 years. Wanted to get something smaller just so I'd have options. Really didn't want to move to a smaller caliber with the same capacity as my 1911, so when the p365 came out I jumped on one ASAP.

That's awesome Lukas! It's a great gun for sure, as is the Nightmare. Thank you and cheers!

Excellent video. The Sig P-365 is a nice little pistol but I would never give my Shield up. My reason is simple, for me my Shield does everything I need it to do.

I mean, if you already own it and it works for you, no real reason to buy a new one, whether you think it's a bit of an upgrade or not.
