lets check out the main differences between the new sig Sauer rattler lt and the original sig rattler.

Something I think you left out is the barrel/handguard compatibility. The OG Rattler was proprietary in its operating system and handguard. The Rattler LT is updated to be compatible with all other models of Spear LT.

Great info! Pinned.
@joearabia56276 ай бұрын
And for anyone wanting more info, this means you can't take a Virtus(or Spear LT) handguard and just throw it on an OG Rattler upper. You'd be left with an open gap in your top rail. Trying to add a longer barrel to your OG Rattler will force you to get a Virtus or Spear LT BCG since the operating rods are also different lengths. So, anyone with an OG Rattler has to go through a lot more steps to convert their gun to a longer barrel version. The new LT Rattler is essentially just the Tac Ops version of the Gen2 MCX without the SD handguard, and this change just makes the new Rattler more compatible/modular.

Two is one, One is none. At least that's the excuse I'm giving myself to purchase the Rattler LT. I also have an original rattler and love just about everything about it. I like the new receiver features on the new MCX/ Spear rifles so I appreciate them being added to the Rattler LT. Also the compatibility with the other LT models is kind of cool in my opinion. I found myself wanting that with the original Rattler because of the pistol brace fiasco.

FYI: I did boil water then took it off the stove and let the muzzle set in the hot water for 1 hour. However, when I got my muzzle device off on the rattler LT I saw no indication of rocksett. I believe the taper is just really solid and they crank it down at the factory. Easiest way is to remove barrel and put in vise against the sides of the gas block. Use a bit of heat/torch evenly and then use a crescent wrench. Went pretty easy if you have a solid vise and some heat. It did take a few heating cycles with me trying to loosen in between heating.

Someone from Sig (I'm in NH not far from their main store) told me they don't use Rocksett. People think Sig does because they are on there so incredibly tight.

I now own more sig spears than ar15's. The best way to take off the muzzle device is buying a Gieselle reaction rod. Grinding off the 1 and 3 o'clock lugs. This will allow it to fit into the mcx/spear series of rifles just like it was made for it. The rod is still able to be used with AR15's. Yeah, it cost about 100 bucks for the reaction rod but the grinding off of the lugs doesn't make it mcx/spear specific, so I say it's a no brainer for those who own both platforms.

I have the 5.5 version and I like it better because it fits the smaller Virtus BP . The extra inch and suppressor FH wouldn't let it fit. I think the actual weight is about the same for both.

Factory sig three prong muzzle device is not difficult to remove on 300 blk rattler. Clamp the barrel assembly in a a vice and It will come right off with a wrench and a bit of leverage. Only on the 5.56 rattler barrel is the muzzle device really stuck on, because it is attached at the factory with Rokset thread glue because it is not supposed to be removed because sig does not recommend people run that short of a 5.56 barrel suppressed.

@Richard-wz9uh5 ай бұрын
@@echofoxtrotwhiskey1595 True. True. Still there are significantly lighter platforms for this barrel length and caliber. I'm being picky I suppose. I really want to see more mainstream companies using better materials liked forged magnesium receivers, titanium small parts, and carbon fiber furniture though. Sure it's expensive now, but if it begins to be manufactured at scale, it won't be expensive forever. Then the whole industry is propelled forward. This isn't even considering the untapped advancements in cartridge technology that is just waiting to be used by mainstream firearms manufacturers at large. That could REALLY propel firearms tech forward. Smaller, lighter guns with lighter ammo that has the same effect as current full size MSRs.

@Shoop...6 ай бұрын
My main interest in comparing the two lies in it's ability to effectively manage gas with suppressed 300 blk and more importantly it's ability to switch between subs and supers on the fly. After shooting subs does the gas need to be togled when loading a magazine of supers or have they found a middle ground in their 2 stage gas setting. Beyond that, the 300 blk Rattlers true competitor, in my eyes, is the CMMG Dissent and it appears to handle gas, both sub and super, like a pro. However, I have yet to find a true and full comparison of both platforms and more specifically their gas management and how functional it is to toggle them during use or if it's needed. Thanks for covering the cosmetic fluff though, the Sig website doesn't seem to care enough about it's civilian clients to offer much or any information on the subject.

I’d buy the SIG LT and Rattler LT if they offered with a slower twist. I prefer to shoot the zippy supersonic 300’s and the 1:5 twist is way too fast. Great for subs and suppression but not 110-125 gr.
@mattrogers62376 ай бұрын
how so? the rotational energy difference in supers is SUBSTANIAL having the faster barrel. The people who developed the round put it in all their weapons as does sig. 1:5 is what all 300blk barrels should be.
@jimrodriguez80476 ай бұрын
@@mattrogers6237 110 gr bullets in a 9” barrel run about 2150 fps. With 1:5 fast twist at that velocity, excessive bullet rpm and bullet jacket separation becomes a problem. Bullet rpm for the aforementioned is in the RED at nearly 310,000 rpm..entering solid bullet territory. David Silver, the R&D Chief at AAC that developed the 300 blackout found the most versatile barrel twist for supers and subs to be 1:7 and 1:8..that was the design goal of 300 BO to be capable of doing both. SIG focused on maximizing subs for suppression in the Spear LT hence the 1:5, but to the detriment of supers. If you review Daniel Defense, LWRC, LMT and most other manufacturer offerings, they use 1:7 NOT 1:5. 1:5 is not what AAC intended as you stated. 1:5 is specialized for subs.

110 gr bullets reach about 2,150 fps out of a 9” barrel. At this velocity and a 1:5 twist, excessive bullet rpm and potential for jacket separation is a possibility. Bullet rpm for the aforementioned is about 310,000 rpm. That’s in the RED, where not all jacketed bullet designs will stay together. David Silver, the AAC R&D Chief that developed the 300 BO, found the most versatile twist for subs and supers is 1:7 and 1:8. The design goal of the cartridge was to be able to shoot both. SIG chose to optimize the Spear LT 300 BO for subs and sound suppression by choosing 1:5, and to the detriment of lightweight supers. If you review manufacturer offerings from LWRC, Daniel Defense, LMT, BCM and others they all use 1:7. 1:5 was not the original AAC twist as you stated and should not be the universal twist either as it’s focused on heavy subs.
