@HongKongFui1970 Also the 'Perpendicular' is an architectural style which might well be applied to stately homes. Thus a double meaning.

@HongKongFui1970 the song alright about the family going to some stately houses but the chorus means "read betwen the lines" it's kida esoteric if you will I mean horizontal - perpendicular choose)))

@HongKongFui1970 The song is about families who go to visit British stately homes at the weekend (stately homes are large houses traditionall owned by Lord or Dukes, but these days often open to the public to raise money for their upkeep.) As for the title, "assume the perpendicular" means to become upright. I assume in his context it means that the characters in the song get up out of bed early at weekends to pursue their hobby (could be wrong though...)
