believe it or not, we used to pull cod out of creek near Kogan in Qld which flowed up to a natural rock weir. When it rained, it overflowed & we used to get some decent skinny water fish 10 -15 kg..

That’s amazing the big fish was just at your feet the whole time. If you’re on the water long enough sight fishing, your eyes can get trained to see such things. I’ve been wading in rivers sight fishing for trout for 8 hours at a time and at the end of the day, your eyes ‘see’ different things. Sometimes, tall trees ‘wave’ because if your eyes are trained on moving water for an hour straight and you finally look up, stationary vertical items like trees actually ‘wave’ or ‘flow’. Psychedelic! And if your eyes are fixed on moving water surface looking for feeding fish, you will eventually see things others who are not trained can not see even if you point it out to them. It’s cool you were able to play back the video while editing, rewind it, and conclude that a monster fish with its back out of the water was there the entire time. What were we doing in a world before GoPros?!?

OMCod that was awsome to see that big cod try to eat that smaller one. Reminds me of a story my girlfriends dad told me 50 years ago he was one of the last commercial cod fishermen on the Lauchlan River just before they banned commercial inland fishing. He used to set lines on springers (now banned) baited with rabbit, Galahs and ducks. One time he hauled in a massive cod, he reckond was 1.5m, as it got close to the bank it spat out a 60cm code which had taken the bait and swam away. As a kid I remember stopping at the Gooloogong Pub for a countery with the fam and my dad picking me up and shoving my head into the mounted head of a 250lb cod, the publican took a pick and it made it into the Cowra News paper. We had that pick in our scrapbook for year, before it got lost for ever over 20yrs ago. I also remember as a kid fishing Wyangala for eel tail catfish over night and my brother baiting a 200lb hand line with one, determined to catch a massive cold, he fished that line all night while I slept in the back of the ute. Disgusted he didn't catch anything he pulled the line in, only to have that massive cod take the cattie at his feet while he was unbalanced and the strike dumped him in the water, the line burnt his hands and the cod swam off. All I saw from the back of the ute as he yelled out COD, was a massive swirl and him going into the drink.

Great video, bro. Awesome to see you boys fight those cod in such a beautiful river. Cod are such an amazing fish, they can be caught in lakes/dams, murky water, clear stuff, and everything in between. Yet, they adapt to each scenario and the strategies to caught them might be slightly different in each instance too. Such a great pastime, and always something new to learn. Keep up the good work brother

Some quality goodoo and very cool to get them sitting so high in the rapids. It would very interesting to hear your theories on this. I reckon oxygen but river looked to be really healthy you wouldnt think they would be chasing it 🤷♂️
@JakkoDavis11 ай бұрын
Yep still got the head spinning this one. Rivers is in good condition. My first thought was oxygen as well. But really it was only a handful of the fish up there doing it. Majority would have been sulking in the deep holes. I just feel the active fish were the ones up doing it

Cant wait til i getthe opportunity to fish these things.... oh man. I havent seen many clips of guys in boats with the trolling motor on low flippin/pitchin grass, rock, wood, etc. Just like you would for largemouth with a big jig, big thick hook big skirt and a big soft plastic trailer. I have an 8' heavy fast tip that i use for musky , medium to mdm large blades, 3-10oz rubber. Id pair that with my Calcutta250 or daiwa lexa400, 80lb braid to a 50lb Fluorocarbon leader (If required), 1.75-2.5oz mopp jog/rubber skirt and a 5-7" boot tail swimbait as a trailer and/or a r2s x yabbie 6.5" crawfish profile soft plastic. Fish it just as if i was flippin n pitchin isolated cover for largemouth. I cannot imagine the Thunp these thing's would give you when they fully commit to killing n eating that big jig soon as it hits bottom lol THUMP!! Then reel down and let em have it, make sure that big jig hook does its job then absolute all hell breaking lose fighting these things with drag locked down. I csnt imagine how fkng insane that would be.
