I have been watching a ton of sight reading videos recently. This is one of the best demos I’ve seen. Thanks so much.

Hi. Please do more videos on more sight reading...you are very clear and very easy to listen to! ...As a (fairly!) New beginner..(5 to 6 months or so!) I found that the video was very helpful. Not ALL u-tube videos advocate not looking at the piano keys but I agree with what you say! I cant afford lessons so I am learning from beginners books and am doing quite well really. Thank you!

Just like any other video on sight-reading piano music, the host always without fail present material that is way to difficult for the average student to play easily .

Will students know what a 3rd feels like and sounds like when they play it? Will students know what a 2nd feels like and sounds like when they play it? How about a 6th? You ask them to FIGURE IT OUT when sight reading their pieces. How do they figure it out? Does FIGURING IT OUT come through by training or is it just by chance? Your video makes me feel that they already FIGURED IT OUT. What about those that have not figured it out yet?

The reason why most beginning students will fail because they are not taught what playing these intervals like 2nds, 3rds, 5ths, etc feels like. This is where muscle memory comes about. If they don't know what an interval feels like when playing it when seen on the page they will never finish that page, not the phrase, not the measure, not a single note. It would be wise for every music teacher to study muscle memory and how crucial it is in teaching sight reading.
