That's in my top 10 of most beautiful love songs ever written. The lyrics are exquisitely soulful.

100% top-10 love song. I love it because it goes so far beyond the normal romantic love song and digs into something deeper.

Saw them as a 'yet unknown band' supporting The Ramones at Aylesbury '77/'78 - just amazingly fresh!! They came back headlining within the year, with another 'yet unknown band - Dire Straits doing support!

Such a wise, beautiful love song! “Hey, we don’t have to be perfect or normal, if things aren’t right there are always work-arounds”. Forty years along I finally understand!

Made the DJ at my buddy's wedding play the song and she ended up dancing with me. She loved it so much she said it was going on her playlist for absolute musts at weddings. It is truly one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. "Out of all those kinds of people, you got a face with a view! I'm just an animal looking for a home and...share the same space for a minute or two. And you'll love me 'til my heart stops. Love me 'til I'm dead."

I saw them at Roxy on Sunset Strip in 70’s. Levi’s and flannel shirts, but still riveting. Still have a maraca that Byrne tossed into the room!
@dcg4mn2 жыл бұрын
They have many great tracks and performances, Byrne is one of the all time best at writing incredibly beautiful melodies. If forced to choose my favorite of all their songs, it’s this one. The universal longing is miraculous. I’m just an animal looking for a home. Love me til my heart stops.

Yes exactly I was there and that change in proximity on stage brought a depth of intimacy on the stage and it was a tangible thing, and it was done for maximum effect,and it worked to a tee like everything else on this tour.

Oh man, what a quote you had there ... "the fashion in the 80's, the shoulder pads" ... little did you know, a handful of songs later, THE shoulder pads of the decade were to come! Great to see someone react to whole of this for the first time. I was blown away by it as an 18 year old in Australia in 1985 watching it on big screen in the cinema. This, amongst many, many others of theirs is a fave song is mine.

I liked the studio version better but that's just me. I heard the original in a Northern Exposure episode. That had the best music blasting out of the jukebox. Nat King Cole, Lindsey Buckingham, Miriam Makeba, Brian Eno, Frederika von Stade (opera singer), Daniel Lanois for example. But yeah, the song really gets to me, filling me up with waves of nostalgia.

Totally with you about the 80’s fashion.. it was a disaster!! And yes I was an adult!!!!! I literally was 20 in 1980 I tried to do the fashion and it was Horrible!!! But I loved the Talking Heads .. they really were more punk ish so not so much into the mainstream fashion! Thank goodness for some of those edgy bands!
