Great! I like to watch videos about the deserts of the American West. Hosted by this down to earth couple, Sally and Marty, they take us to ghost towns and their mysterious pasts. Excellent videography and a very relaxing watch!😂

From approx. the 1870's to roughly WW1, U.S. glass makers utilized manganese as the primary decolorant/deoxidizer in clear glass production. Over time, when exposed to sunlight, clear glass from this period will turn purple as the manganese reacts to the uv rays.

In Seattle there's big sections of glass in the sidewalks down in Pioneer Square from back in yonder day and all the glass appears purple tinted now. I did the City Under the City tour there and saw it from underneath looking up. Very cool experience.

Ok, I haven't read through the comments yet to see what anyone else is saying but my guess is that metal lined closet structure was for coal. I know in the old days people had storage areas with an opening from the outside so people could easily shovel coal into it. Although majority that I've seen were in basements, I have seen some above ground as well. Those beehive kilns support this idea. They clearly had coal. Cold storage would likely be underground. Maybe that could've been for such a purpose but I'm thinking it'd have better served a purpose storing something that didn't spoil. Some type of dry goods.

So nice to find water where you don't expect. That purple piece that meandering Marty found. Numerous to me when you mention visiting Frisco, I don't think about an old Utah mining town. You are sure finding a lot of artifacts and interesting pieces. Love the old stone structures remnants. Pretty wild town! Plants even in the desert seem to take over old buildings. Love the purple stones! That old equipment that Marty talked about is interesting! Btw glad both of you were able to walk around and explore without too much trouble. Love that old conveyor! Stay away from that gold color hills. Some nice views! Probably several reasons why town declined. Beehive kilns are always cool. Been to the ones in Death Valley. Definitely enjoyed this video. You and Marty take care and stay healthy!!

Hey Sally and Marty It's good to see both of you looking well. This was a really neat video. You guys did a great job bringing pieces of dying history back to life. There is just something really intriguing about exploring a ghost town. That purple "glass" Marty found may not be glass but a mineral called Amethyst which is about that color and really beautiful. The corner piece of pipe is typically known as an elbow. As for the machine for separating the mineral from the rock, it may have been a primitive type of sleuss where vibration and flowing water would separate it and the mineral would get caught on a screen of some kind as the bigger rocks would drop off into a pile at the end of the coveyer. I hope this helped you a little. Will be watching for the next amazing adventure. Until then take care, stay safe and God bless. Steve in Oklahoma

You should have checked out Sulfurdale when you were in Utah. Hot springs depositing sulfur on the rims, which was mined back in the day. There is a geothermal power plant there now, but the current population is zero.

Did Sally sightsee or did Marty meander into Frisco? Wah wah. Another fun visit! Miners are indeed opportunists. The LDS wards could be likened to Catholic parishes.
