Thank you! I've loved this opera for many years. Don't think I've heard this Fantasy before..operatic fantasies were so common in the mid-19th century of course. It took Thalberg quite a while to come to Elena's opening 'O mattutini albori'....A nice glimpse back in time.

Thank you, Rosie, for this treat I've not heard before. Music - like all performance art - is about expectation affirmed, transformed, confounded. Artur Schnabel used to say (I'm paraphrasing him badly) that people came to his concerts to hear the silences. Anyone could play the notes, said Schnabel. But to do justice to the silences... This may be a forgotten piece and, some would claim, a faded salon piece; but in the opening bars I've yet to hear silence (meaning, expectation) handled better.
