Great to see more love for Thalberg. An amazing composer!

His opera fantasies can occasionally be quite good indeed but Thalberg is by no means an "amazing" composer. Nevertheless I still respect him for having the balls to stand up to Liszt in their feud.
@AndreiAnghelLiszt
@AndreiAnghelLiszt 5 жыл бұрын
@Lunar Orbit Because most of his original works are incredibly uninteresting and mundane. The same can't be said for other piano composers like Chopin and Liszt. There is a reason Thalberg is little known in today's times and Chopin and Liszt are well known!

I find his works rather soulless, he served the greed for virtuosity that was emerging at the time.

I love so much classical music and I know plenty of composers from the well-known and almost unknown ones. However, I didn't know about this wonderful and virtuous pianist and composer since a day ago while reading the Count of MonteCristo by Alexander Dumas who in chapter LVXXVI he wrote about Danglar's daughter "Eugenia" playing the piano like a living Thalberg. Amaizing and exhilarating discovery.

From 4:33 onwards a very beautiful soft section pops up every few bars and then quickly disappears forever... Magical

Huh. I wonder why he didn't write it in 6/8. That would have saved him from marking all those triplets.
@leoribic1691
@leoribic1691 3 ай бұрын
Probably to avoid people getting the beats wrong. Some people (albeit not many) might otherwise play three beats per measure, despite the left hand having two, a bit like Chopin's F minor étude. I guess having triplets makes it clear that each first note in each triplet should get the agogic emphasis. Plus he'd have to dot all the left hand notes!

I think this Tarantella is more enjoyable than Thalberg's other works. Well, among his original works that is. I think Fantasias and Paraphrases are pretty much his forte.

The beginning sounds a lot like Chopin's. When was this composed? I'm sure one of the either copied from the other. Or it may be an idiosyncratic way to start a Tarantella.
@thenameisgsarci
@thenameisgsarci 8 жыл бұрын
1) I don't think so. 2) Read the title card. 3) Chopin composed his tarantella 7 years before Thalberg composed his, so it may be a theory. 4) I think it's fine.
@Archiekunst
@Archiekunst 8 жыл бұрын
Oh I always skip the title card. It drives me nuts in anticipation because I'm greedy for content. But I follow why you do it. It is to explicitly ascertain acknowledgement. It may be so that thalberg took the flavor of the introductory bar from Chopin. I'm not convinced that it wasn't a coincidence though.

I can't help thinking this piece would go better without pedal and a staccato touch to give it more bite. I know the score says: use the pedal.

could you do music by Edvard Mirzoyan? he has a great piece for piano titled 'Poem' or if you can't find anything by him, maybe Leo Ornstein or Henry Cowell?

Some parts remind me of the Pieczonka tarantella. Not one of Thalberg's "better" pieces in my opinion, such as the Rossini paraphrases/transcriptions. Though I suppose it's a good piece for an intermediate preteen or teenager. Interesting rarity nonetheless.
