Hello! Only for information, the light gattering of an APS-C lens at f4 is the same as an f4 full frame lens so there is no loss of light, the equivalence you said with an f4 APS-C being a f6 in full frame only affects to the depth of field and the bokeh, etc.but an f4 or an f2.8 lens gives the same light to the sensor with independance of the sensor size.

When I started photography about 3 years ago I always knew through physics that it would not make sense that aperture is not universal across the board when it comes to glass. I really dislike when these creators always apply crop factor to aperture when in reality those two do not correlate at all.
@Thirsty_Fox9 ай бұрын
@@dami4944 The crop does apply to aperture because aperture itself is related to the focal length, which is different due to the crop. f/2.8 means the focal length 'f' divided by 2.8. If you have say 23mm f/2.8 lens on APSC with 1.5 crop, you get what's equivalent in field of view to 35mm on full-frame, correct? So you have to use 23mm/2.8 (8.2mm) which is gives you a smaller light pupil than 35mm/2.8 (12.5mm) by the exact 1.5 factor. One way of looking at it is the amount of light making it to the APS-C portion of the full-frame sensor will be exactly the same as on the APS-C sensor itself, but the larger sensor means you need to increase the focal length (zoom in) to give the same perspective, and when you do you get a larger pupil if the aperture ratio remains the same.

In the last part you mentioned the not stabilized a6400. From what I got you would prefer to use the old 10-18 Sony because of the OSS but.. for both photo and video? Unfortunately I have an inbody micro shakerizer 😂

Always fun watching your reviews :) If I was on Sony APSc I would definitely take this lens + Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 Regarding stabilisation did you have a chance to compare this against a newer Sony lens? Lately I was looking into Sony lenses and the video from Chris Brockhurst about the Sony 20-70 and Tamron 20-40 showed an extreme difference in regards of stabilisation in active mode. Sony native lens is much more stable on full frame. But I'm not sure if that's also the case for APSc.

I was going to replace my Sony 18-135 for the Sigma 18-50 2.8; but now I'm thinking perhaps I should buy this instead to cover the 10-18 range and keep the Sony 18-135 one! Even though it's a f3.5-5.6 hmmm. Thoughts? Thanks for this amazing and lighthearted review!!!

Now *that* looks like a contender for the «first buy» lense *when* I can afford the a6700 … but I still hate why they just can’t use «realistic» mm-sizing on aps-c lenses - if it’s the equivalent to something on a full frame then just put that on the damn lens, nobody cares what the actual mm of something on the lens is, if it’s the equivalent to something on a full frame as a reference then that should be what they put on the aps-c-lens, not what it theoretically could have been ;) *rant over* - Great video by the way :)
@benoittissier58 Жыл бұрын
Focal length is a physical data. You can put a medium format lens on MF, FF, APS-C or MFT, it still has the same focal length. The field of view on the images will be different because of the sensor sizes. So it's quite logical to use the focal length for the lens and a reference for field of view according to sensor size.
