When the Sigma's 30mm F1.4 was launched, it bashed not only Sony's native prime, it even outscored the zeiss in dxomark. You might find that this Sigma's 16mm F1.4 and the 56mm F1.4 are not fully reviewed since then in the dxomark website. Well it's only logical that other lens manufacturers would prefer not to have these Sigma's lenses publicized further, at least they can still sell whatever they have got to offer. Sigma has got the Sony's APS-C E mount lens range covered with sharpness, fast aperture and affordability so it also makes sense that Sony is not going head on against Sigma in this category unless they provide similar quality within similar price points.

I own this lens and I only wished it was a bit wider, it's a good landscape lens but far from perfect, also unless shooting landscape exclusively, the kit lens is much more versatile on most situations (portraits, street and landscape all together), the slightly sharpness you'll get with this lens is not worth the changing, I bought it because I love landscape shooting, so for me the two biggest disadvantages of this lens are that it is a fixed focal length and not wide enough, if it was 12mm for example I'd use it more.

@TheHybridShooter7 жыл бұрын
Because it provides completely different field of view on MFT camera and I didn't need 32mm full frame equivalent MFT lens. For G80 I would prefer 15mm F1.7 because it is smaller and native Panasonic lens.
@HardGrader6 жыл бұрын

I finally got this lens and I'm super excited to use it, but the rubber focus ring is slightly misaligned on my example. I'm maybe really picky but the rubber isn't perfectly set. Seems like it's slightly twisted. Is your like that as well? It's hard to judge by video. Is it common or should I change mine? I might be super picky.

I wonder: Sigma 16mm F1.4 vs Sel24F18z? I have an A6500 and Sel35F1.8. Great setup but I'd like to add a more wide angle lense. Fast and quiet Autofocus for video and a very good IQ and sharpness are most important to me.
@TheHybridShooter7 жыл бұрын
I would say Sigma 16mm F1.4. 24mm is quite old lens, the AF is not that great on it.
@molohov38756 жыл бұрын
I have all 3 lenses. 24mm's AF is good after the firmware upgrade to 0.2, which gives it AF-C capabilities. The SEL24F18Z has also has an indescribable color rendition which is apparently common to Zeiss lenses. It also provides the extremely versatile 35mm equivalent which is hard to find on sony aps-c. 16mm is very usable all around but the one thing I don't like about it is the distortion which is a byproduct of this angle of view. I find myself using the 24mm more depending on the occasion, which seems to be indoor/portraits/walkaround. 16mm would be perfect for outdoors and those dramatic sweeping shots that you can achieve with this angle of view. 35mm of course is very versatile as it is the 52.5mm equivalent. However, I find that my 24mm and 16mm are both much sharper than my 35mm.

@TheHybridShooter7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, on MFT it is 32mm FF eqv. so not particularly wide and the sensor can't even utilize all of the glass, this lens is more impressive on APS-C than on MFT in my opinion, but you will still get that sharpness and optical quality. That expensive Leica 12mm F1.4 is unfortunately the only 24mm FF equivalent alternative.

Hey matey, as ever a very hands on review. Thankyou. Do you thing sigma 16mm mft would be a good match for Panasonic g9 for outdoors work? I know the focal length may not be quite right but weather sealing 1.4 and quality make it sound like a match plus I wonder how the hi red would work.
@TheHybridShooter6 жыл бұрын
It will be a good match, although I would prefer Leica 15mm F1.7 due to its size and DFD technology which is kind of big deal with G9.
@simonc82656 жыл бұрын
Yes you're right. Thankyou for replying. I guess I'm not too concerned with Dfd (yet). More wondering if there is a difference in image quality and your thoughts on the extra stop. I agree with size of lens part if for street/events but I'm thinking mainly outdoors. Keen to reduce noise. Get the best out of hires and have landscapes focus stacked. Its sound like both lenses impressed you but the sigma had an extra something? Just wondering if that translates over to mft.
@TheHybridShooter6 жыл бұрын
I unfortunately haven't tested the Sigma 16mm on the G9 so I can't directly compare the image quality, but it needs to be stopped down for maximal sharpness, the difference in the aperture wouldn't be deicing factor for me personally. The high-res physically moves the sensor, so it actually does't require more lens sharpness than normal shooting.

Thanks once again! Would you say this is the ideal travel lens for A6XXX? Maybe a topic for an indepth video as I haven't seen any good ones. All the best and wishes!
@TheHybridShooter7 жыл бұрын
It is an excellent lens for landscape or architecture shooting and for vloging as well, but will probably want to have something with longer focal length as well for travelling, clearimage zoom only works in video, it crops the sensor while still outputting 4K video. Sigma 16mm F1.4 and Sony 35mm F1.8 OSS could be very good combination for travelling.
@1234filmsgr7 жыл бұрын
The Hybrid Shooter I was wondering the same, if this lens could save me from buying the Sigma 30mm/ Sony 35mm just using the clear zoom function, I bet it would be almost OK if you are shooting 4k and downscaling to 1080, any test videos with this feature are more than welcome.
@TheHybridShooter7 жыл бұрын
Clear image zoom is definitely not a substitute for lens with focal length twice as long, it is just croping sensor in video, it works well, but in low light the quality decreases and there is also less detail because it uses less downscaling.

I saw this camera, this lens selling about 900$ is it worth it in 2024?

I've got it now for black Friday and for my tests so far I do not regret it. It's a gorgeous lens, quick, fast auto focus and extremely sharp. The best cheap lens for Sony E mount! Now I'm considering getting the 30mm for portraits and I'm totally covered for all my needs

Really love ur channel, helps alot... Now im impressed of getting this lens but i was wondering is it good enough for portrait? Coz i have 35mm f1.8 n im considering to replace it just wanna bring one lens only for traveling 😊 thx
@TheHybridShooter6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, this lens is too wide for portraits, Sigma should release 50mm F1.4 version of this lens soon, that will be great lens for portraits.

i have the 16-50, the 18-105.....so with that said if you could pic ONE lowlight lens for party type stuff, festivals ,concerts, between sigma 16,, or sigma 30mm or sony 35mm?? i need a nice prime....
@TheHybridShooter6 жыл бұрын
I would recommend either 16mm F1.4 if you prefer wide-angle or Sony 35mm F1.8 OSS if you want tighter angle because it has OSS and better auto focus.

Dude it is one thing to have a list of things to talk about but you need to sound "less" like you are reading off a list of specs, you just don't sound natural or fluent when speaking. Very distracting on the audience end. Good video tho.

I actually am reading it and I prefer to focus on passing as much information as possible rather than on form, so Im afraid that this is the best that I can do at the moment.
