Same for me, but instead of the a6000, I got a DSLR, because there I had those lenses. A few more years and it might be finally time to switch to mirrorless for me and give my daughter my old gear. Well or just buy her some nice DSLM body and let her collect her own glass … either way, the glass for those mirrorless have come a long way. Pretty impressive lenses and great cheap glass to now. Some nice large bodies as option now as well. Nothing against small bodies, but I like them bigger to fit into my hand.

I was asking myself the same thing, for a moment, but even without testing this, I’m gonna directly say: “Never.” At least not so soon. Sigma should also re-launch its old but gold Sigma 30 f2.8 with full support for phase detect AF. I still have the old one. It's a very sound lens optically. What a delightful tiny little thing!!! Had the awesome Sigma 60 too, which I chose over the Sony 50 OSS. Sold the 60 for the 56 f1.4. Never owned the 19 though.

I wish they came up with a 24mm (35mm equivalent) prime that rivales in size and quality as the 56mm. That would be an epic lens

How is this lens compare to Sony 16-55m F2.8?
@saifaldin_3 жыл бұрын
Overall image quality, I would say the Sony wins (sharper across the frame). Bokeh I would say about the same. The Sigma has lateral CA better controlled, but the Lo CA is slightly worse than the Sony. Flare control, Sony is better. I also think that the Sony’s AF will fare better when pushed to the limit. If the Sony is 200usd more than the Sigma, I’ll definitely choose it. The thing is, it’s not..

I always want to ask - *why do you think, Sigma* (Canon/Nikon etc) *18mm is enought for APS-C???* I personally hate this 28 FF eq. look. It's not good at all. It's not WIDE, it's "widish". 16 (24 FF eq.) - is. So why 18?? It could have been so nice...
@rsmith023 жыл бұрын
28 is too wide I think.

Can you only change the aperture in the settings not on the lens?

Question: I am new to zoom lenses. Can you change the aperture from f2.8 to a smaller aperture at different focal lengths? Or are you always shooting at f2.8.

On any body - stabilised or not, I wont go with the Tamron. Too long and heavy for my liking. It’s between the Sigma 18-50 and Sony 16-55 for me..

@@bboon5315 Having said that, the Tamron does offer a lot for the money, and for some people might be the perfect choice. The overall image quality is better than this Sigma, so don’t rule it out just yet..

I wonder how this stack against the old sigma 17-50 f.28 for dslr ...in terms of focus breathing , image quality ...
@rsmith023 жыл бұрын
Way less focus breathing on the new lens but looks like more aberration, especially LoCA, and more overall distortion.

This Sigma lens reminds me of the very first 17 to 50 Tamron 2.8 without VC on the crop DSLR. Their almost the same size and weight. Possible this Sigma lens is a derivative of the Tamron. That Tamron was almost a Macro lens itself. So much similarities.

Thank you so much for the full frame camera setting with the lens attached! I was wondering, does anyone know if any focal length in full frame mode can hide away the rest of the dark circle? I would like to see if I can use some full frame focal lengths plus crop mode.

Because of the small barrel of the lens, the dark circle stays present through the entire range

I have both lenses and a Sony a9. I prefer the compactness and the images from this Sigma. 12mp is more than enough for majority of people. People get too caught up in specs and gear and lose focus (har) of the art of photography. The composition, the subject, etc. Set your camera to Auto ISO, ISO Auto Min SS, and Aperture Priority, and go take pictures. Doing that with this lens really allows your creativity to flow

is it better to sell sigma 1.4 30mm and buy this 18-50? (i have also samyang 12 2,0 ald sony 50-210) and sometimes are frustrated, that i don't have 16-18mm
@saifaldin_3 жыл бұрын
Depends on what kind of shots you’re looking for. The 30mm seems to be the only lens you have that is capable of getting shallow DOF easily. The new zoom wont give you that (the 55-210 can, but only at the long end). What kind of subjects do you normally shoot?
