I have the 35mm F2 Sigma and really like it. Build quality is just amazing. I liked the 58mm filter size as it matches the GH5 lenses filter thread size and I already had NDs, etc. When it came to 24mm, I considered waiting for the sigma, but saw the filter thread size and instead opted for the Rokinon 24mm f1.8 AF compact. While build quality isn't as nice as the Sigma, the size, weight, filter size of 58mm, and quality of image/autofocus has been great! Price at $499 for the Rokinon is really great as well for E mount.

Hence why people buy E and L mounts cameras. Not the best design, but man you get lenses.
@mbvglider3 жыл бұрын
@@HappyHubris Do people actually buy L mount cameras? Personally, I think RF mount should be opened up to third party manufacturers, but RF has a better selection of affordable first party lenses than E or L, in my opinion. The 50mm is cheap and reasonable quality, the 35mm is great at a decent price, the 85mm is a little bit expensive but justifies that by being stabilized and semi macro. They’re releasing a new 16mm f/2.8 and it’s extremely compact and only $299. I do really want this in RF, esp. the 24mm, but I’m also pretty happy with the current lens lineup and roadmap.

Why is everyone sleeping on Samyang 24mm f1.8?
@zispop3 жыл бұрын
Truly - That lens is unbelievable for the price
@bharathghanta3 жыл бұрын
The issue with a lot of Samyang lenses is massive sample variation (I don't know about the 24mm but I used wildly varying copies of the 35mm f1.4 and 45 f1.8). And I have heard about issues from retailers themselves too. A lot of the lenses that are sent to the reviewers are really good copies although I have seen a lot of variation in results from reviewers too for some Samyangs. If you buy retail, it's essentially a lottery on whether you get a good copy. Although all lenses have sample variation, most newer first party lenses or recent Sigma/Tamron lenses don't have sample variation that's anywhere near as bad as with Samyang/Rokinon.
@fellowcitizen3 жыл бұрын
Gordon Laing says that they don't supply review samples so reviewers don't compare them as often. There seems to be a big push for Samyang, lately, I didn't know that they were even near Sigma in class, perhaps I'll look them up. I thought they were almost all manual, though?

@peoplez1293 жыл бұрын
You've both overlooked something in your testing. Sun stars do require a stopped down aperture, but f/16 is mathematically way beyond the point of diffraction. Diffraction is hard limited purely by pixel size. The bigger the pixel, the less diffraction. That translates into hard stops for sensor sizes and megapixels. For example, a 12MP full frame camera is the ONLY resolution and size that can shoot at f/16 without diffraction. Change to 20MP, and that f/16 diffraction limit turns more into f/12. Downsize to APSC with the same resolution, and that f/12 turns more into f/8. Basically all APSC sensors are at least diffraction limited at f/8 or so, most full frame sensors are diffraction limited at f/12 or lower even. All you get from there is a softer image. And that's why the sun stars weren't very good.

No no, I am going with this 90mm over any 85mm... because I am planning on trying to walk passed security guards on a concert and have a slight hope they will mistake my sony a7c (with this Sigma lens) as a regular 'tourist camera'. Even the smallest of the 85mm are too big in my opinon. (I am just a regular fan... not a concert photographer... so getting my camera inside is going to be a gamble...) Edit: Well... turns out the guards don't care one bit if you bring a camera. I even managed to get my Sigma 135mm in without issue. They only wanted to know if I had any waterbottles. Which I didn't, so I could just walk right in. It was a bit of a hassle switching lenses though, so perhaps a zoom lens would be better. I personally found that lighting wasn't such an issue, there were more than enough light on the stage, with all of the strobe and spotlights. (Though annoyingly some of the colored lights left banded stripes on the photos, so that sucked.)

The other 24 is very light for FF, and almost a macro so still has bokeh options. It's complementary to this 24 for people who shoot street etc and value the lower weight. 28mm is "Big in Japan" so there's more pride invested in such lenses. Sigma's probably working on a couple of versions.
