Sigma is sharper, better bokeh, better AF performance... More compact form factor. That tiny bit extra reach is really pretty minimal in real world..... Sigma is the obvious choice, IMO. The Tamron is also a fantastic choice though. The only significant advantage is the better weather sealing.....I never let my gearv really get wet, either way, personally...... I'm sure liked most lenses the sigma can handle the occasional ultra light sprinkle...... When it rains...... Your camera element would get wet anyway..... So.

According to the testing I've read about, the new Tamron G2 (second version of the Tamron 28-75) is better than the Sigma 28-70. However, if you look at the Sigma 24-70, it's close, however the 24-70 is more expensive and known to collect a lot of dust. I have the G2 and it is awesome on a full frame camera! I use it on the Sony A7riii. Plus, the new Tamron does have a button on the lens that can be programed to whatever you like. I've programmed mine to switch between AF and manual.

I actually took the new Sigma to a wedding this weekend. I was acting as the backup photographer, and was mostly asked because they knew I had a camera and weddings are limited to 30 people still. It pushed through like an absolute champ when paired with my Sony A7RIV. So glad I invested in it.

I’m interested in purchasing the Sigma. I’m sort of sour on the quality of Tamron lenses as I had bought the Tamron 17-28 last year and I didn’t like how loose the zoom was. It would shift on me while I was shooting. And I wasn’t impressed by the build quality either. I ended up returning it. Sigma on the other hand impressed me when I had an APS-C system. I had the 16 and 30mm and those were excellent lenses.

Another excellent video! But could you also use youtube chapters? I find them helpful, for example, I might want to skip sample photos and go right the conclusion or summary. I currently have the a6000 and have been considering the Tamron 17-70, given the kit lens limitations. But I am also imagining eventually upgrading my body to the a6600, and when I think of the cost of that body with the Tamron 17-70, I realize I could sell my current gear and get the a7c with the Sigma 28-70. It's hard to resist the siren song of full frame ! I like a small, lightweight kit, but the a7c with Sigma 28-70 would actually weigh less than the a6600 with the Tamron 17-70. I saw your video comparing the a6600 and a7c, and I agree with your conclusion that upgrading lenses is more important than the camera body. But if I am going to buy a mid-range f2.8 zoom, and the APS-C version is around the same cost and weight of a FF lens, then I wonder if I should make the leap now to FF. These decisions give me headaches ! If I am honest with myself, I know that working on composition, and editing skills, and shooting more often, would help much more than buying new gear ;) But when I see what the a7c can do, compared to my a6000, it is very tempting.

The sigma it’s a bit soft at 70mm. I got mine last week and did some photo test and you need to shoot at f4/f5.6 for get best results when shoot at 70mm. Good video BTW

tamron 17-70 vs Sony 18-105 videos please

No comparison. The 18105 which I used a lot allows nice low dof, but its distortion is visible especially in OOC jpg, resolution at wide end is only acceptable, wide means about 19 to 20mm, it sucks power due to OSS and large lenses. I still like it but wouldn't recommend it except for video over the Tamron 1770. My 1655 outperforms the 18105 so much it almost hurts my eyes looking at shots with the latter unless you are going for low DOF at full tele.

That might be your preference, but the 24-70 is extremely heavy (almost double the weight of the 28-70)! Not everyone wants to carry around a 835g lens all day, especially if you do photography as a hobby!

I hope Sigma dnt forget about making some good apsc zoom lenses too. They have focuced on FF only recently. A 16-105 f4 or even with variable aperture is so welcome. Also hope they make an apsc version of 100-400mm. It's too heavy on crop bodies.

Actually, I am planning to sell Tamron one and get this Sigma "C" because of its size and weight to be able to balance it on my M3 gimbal. I can balance Tamron on M3, but it is too stressful for tilt motor, but I guess with Sigma it will be much easier.

Real world photos and charts inside a room are always gonna produce different results. Both videos ive seen people compare in the real world said they look near identical at the long end, maybe the tamron is a tiny bit sharper but the sigma bokeh and sharper in the corners and wider end id take the sigma. Up to you though!

Im a Sigma fanboy too, cause i love the 16mm and 56mm for Apsc Cameras. After i switched to fullframe i bought the Tamron 28-75 for my Sony A7iii. Im from Germany and in Germany the Tamron is 150 euro (~190dollar) cheaper. So there is no reason for me to choose the Sigma. Maybe for the small A7c Body the Sigma is the Right Lens. I appreciate this comparison. It strikes me that with the 'hybrid' intent of Sigma's camera, Sigma would have made the aperture de-clickable on these recent contemporary lenses. The Tamron's 28-75mm focal range too, is more readily imaginable (full-frame, 15-degree increments) 75-30 FOV.

I just pulled the trigger on the 24-70. However, in receiving it seems very heat for my A7C. Now I'm second guessing, I did get it for about $50 more than the 28-70. For that price I figured it was worth it to get the better lens with the wider range. What are your thoughts?

I personally owned 24-70 art for my a7c and ended up selling it with some loss after the new 28-70 news as it was soooo heavy and big for my taste. A7c is all about small and compact and 24-70 art just goes directly against the camera body and I didnt like it. Now I own 28-70 along with 35mm gm, 20 1.8 G, and sigma 65 f2 and those are perfect combos complementing each other very well.

I've wondered about that myself, if I should buy the Sigma for my a6000, so that if I move to full frame (like the a7c) I will already have a good lens for it. But the focal length of the Sigma will be equivalent to 42-105mm, not as useful for everyday shooting. Also, the Sigma doesn't have image stabilization, and the a6000 and a6400 don't have IBIS.

One information in your great video astonished me. You say the Tamron is made in China, either they switched production-location or you took the information from your lens-hood. Hey Arthur, while I like the way you do the comparison and presentation I noticed a few times that I don't entirely agree on the conclusions. Of course opinions are personal and everyone is entitled to their own but I think in many reviews Sigma comes out "on top" because you carry a tripod around. Can't say for everyone but a humble guess would be not many of us are having either 6500/6600 or tripods with us all the times so no in-body stabilization is a big issue. That's what turned me off from Sigma long ago and I never looked back.
