Just watched a manufacturing video of the Sigma factiry. I didnt realize how humans sre still greatly involved in making lenses. There was a worker hand painting the marking on the lens barrels. Crazy how they're able to offer these lenses at such a price with so many people and steps involved

@@cristian_c YT Algorithm also fed me that video. It was great to see behind the scenes. However, the hand painting was a little less impressive than it first appeared. Still a task requiring precision.

The older you get the more important are things like weight and ergonomics. If you’re shooting for 3-4 hours straight and then back at it again for another 4 hour function it really adds up. Sharpness is definitely nice but having a lens that you truly enjoy using and holding in your hands is what makes a lens a legend. Fortunately I have about 4 of these and I wouldn’t sell them for any replacement.

Gerald, no mystery why Sony limits the fps on third-party E-mount lens, it is to protect some sales of their own Sony lenses. Same for no TCs on third-party E-mount lenses. The L version of this lens will take TCs on Leica and Panasonic as well as full fps. Strictly a Sony business decision. Do you really think many would buy the Sony at $1300 USD more if this Sigma was allowed to do 20fps on the A9/A9II, 30 fps on the A1, and 120 fps on the A9III, and with TCs. No way. It seems to be a lens communication protocol speed that causes the 15 FPS limit. Sony lenses since late 2016 use a faster protocol than their older lenses. The later lenses still support the older protocol for the A7 and APS-C bodies. Third-parties either aren't allowed to use the faster speed or choose not use it. Four of the Sony lenses released in 2016 support up to 20 FPS instead of or 15 FPS. The original FE 2.8/70-200 GM supports 30 FPS, but isn't on the list of 120 FPS lenses, so there might be another tier there. The most recent Sony lenses also support Silent Priority Aperture Driver in AF and those lenses also show a AE limitation on the A9III with the aperture getting fixed in busts at 60 FPS or higher.

I use the GM II on an RS3 Pro for event coverage, so every bit of weight savings is worth it for me. If I hadn't already used the Sony, then I think the Sigma would be great for most people. Is iq different from the tamron?
@TechnoBabble Жыл бұрын
IQ on the Sigma is noticeably better at 200mm than the Tamron at 180mm, without factoring in that small difference in focal length (so an even bigger difference in the real world for subjects far enough to need 200+mm. I don't mind the size and weight because I can handle it fairly easily and it gives me better technical image quality. For most people, that doesn't matter. Currently I have the 70-200 Gm1 and having tested the 70-200 gm2 as soon as I get enough money I’m selling my 70-200 and getting the gm2 it’s such a crazy ass lens for the wieght and how optically great it looks

Sigma or tamron 70-180 f2.8 g2? I think thats the choice most people are making, not GM 2

Most annoying thing about the sigmas is the opposite zoom and focus ring rotation

Exactly. Only reason I do not want sigma lenses 😭

except that Ive been using sigma since day1.. so things like this like a second nature to me
@benja1378 Жыл бұрын
haha that's funny because for me that is the right way because I started on Canon. Now on my Lumix S5 I only use Sigmas xD

@@Curtis-Randall I'm more embarrased that you think sigma lenses are the peak of optical performance, and for the fact that you don't understand how important good ergonomic focus rings are in production. Focusing becomes an extension of your body, and if 1 of your many lenses focus is in the opposite position, it's obvious you would make mistakes when switching between them.

@@MarkusFinholt its really not that deep lmao. just use the lens for a day or two and you'll get used to it and your wallet will be much happier

I got Nebula last year from GU, but still prefer to watch these on KZbin for the metrics.

Hi, I am a big fan of your KZbin video. I want to ask this question, which I’m struggling to figure out. I want a camera that I will use mainly for recording myself going to the gym and doing gym exercises and somewhat being a gym influencer. I am not really into taking photos, so a decent photo quality is fine for me. I want to know your opinion about these cameras and which would be the most suitable for me or if any better camera would match my style. Thank you, and I would hope you reply to my message. - Sony ZV E1 - Sony A6700 - Sony A7 CII - Song A7 IV (My budget is around 2500 dollars)

What about burst speeds on the a7/a7R? Thanks, great video
@Yizzlesquasm Жыл бұрын
They will be fine as I believe it's 15fps across the board.
@CarlBergsdorf Жыл бұрын
The burst speed on the Sony A7 is 5 fps and I believe the A7R is slower than that.

Why does nobody compare the Sigma 70-200MM to the og sony 70-200mm GM when comparing price points? It is still being sold new. Personally it doesnt make any sense to me.

All sigma lenses I have the issue with having non linear focus. Drives me nuts and is a bummer since they look so great for filming aswell.
@conacrunch8416 Жыл бұрын
Other reviewers have reported that the manual focus WAS linear with a longer throw distance on the Sigma, which they have found more accurate to use than the Sony. So not sure who to trust here. I guess just try it out when my local store has it in.
@jonos9467 Жыл бұрын
@@conacrunch8416 Hmm well my 85mm sure is not linear, but trying yourself is always the best idea

yes, if you buy the e mount version, it’ll work perfectly!

Clicked on this video so excited. 6 mins in and I’m almost devastated. Am I really going to get this lens only because it’s cheaper? The zoom focus ring swap is really killing me as well as the other ergo issues. Wonder if I change my mind by the end of the vid 🤔

@@geraldundoneI have not changed my mind, after you got to the auto focusing rant, I just thought, why did they make such a good lens just to nerf it? I feel like they are doing this on purpose. Saying all this I still can’t afford the G master sooooo 👀

Manual focus can be linear with the sigma dock or not ?
@Ildskalli Жыл бұрын
This lens is a great option for L-mount… and that’s it. I wouldn’t pick it for Sony, there’s better alternatives there. If one can live with the limitations in frame rate and teleconverters, then the G2 Tamron is a better pick, and if one can’t, well, you go with one of the GMs.

Listening only with the occasional glance to scrutinize comparison shots, knee-jerk reflex to the word "nipples" was auto-negated until followed by "squirrel had a mouthful" which invoked the freeze response, quickly followed by a rewind to confirm albeit too late, the mental image was starkly implanted, that will teach me to not look away while listening, damn you Gerald.

You would think that Sigma (or any other lens maker) would bring in an Undonean consultant during the concept phase before going all in on production.
