Goodness John, I was really struck by "Clouds On a Painted Sky." It's got one of the best chord progressions I think I've ever heard. If I am ever so lucky as to record an album, I would like very much to cover that song. Thanks for playing it!

Thank you so much for this review - it helped me enormously. You have touched upon all the main issues, and saved me some coin ... the guitar is not unstuck in any of my local stores, so I would have ordered it without testing it first. It's beautiful, and sounds great, but the point you made about the action (although it can be adjusted) and the difficulty in fiddling around the higher part of the neck made me realise it is not the one for me. I wet for the Sigma Hummingbird instead and I love it! Thanks again!

Excellent review John ,i really like the sound of the sigma as I’m just an auld strummer and i feel as if it would suit me down to the ground.I loved the lyrics of the song you wrote as a seventeen year old and the tune was great too,keep up the good work.

Great song John, Still humming it. The distance between us means your song has crossed the span from Bishopbriggs all the way to Summerston. Must be at least 4 miles! Loved the tones of the guitar too especially when played acoustically. Cheers John another good one. See you down Byres rd sometime. :-)

The fingerboard material is different. The 200+ uses Micarta while the 200 uses rosewood.

Audio is way out of synch. Will I need to have it set up before I play it? The last guitar I purchased (an Epiphone Hummingbird) needed a setup the frets were all over the place, it was awful.
@JohnCouplandguitar2 жыл бұрын
It will benefit from a set up. Epi QC is almost non-existent. I got one of their Les Paul studios and the selector switch was unfinished and useless. A travel guitar needed 3mm removed from the nut to 1st fret and my 339 had to have a new selector switch after just 6 months.
@TonyBurke1002 жыл бұрын
I had the Hummingbird and the Sigma set up by a local tech ($340 X 2) and they're great. The strings on the Sigma i.e 0012- 0053 were too heavy for me so I Replaced them with a set of Ernie Ball Earthwood 0010-0050s (just now) and it's perfect not only is it easier to play but it rings like a bell it's just beautiful.That old myth about light gauge strings sounding terrible is just that, "a myth".

Hi. How is its sound volume? Is it loud enough for a $1000 jumbo guitar standard? Thanks.

It would be loud enough for a classroom full of children. Remember that if a guitar is too loud, no one will be able to hear what you are singing!

Sir, I think that is Sigma GJA-SG200+, not SG200. The Sigma logo is new, differemt than the old one. And its neck, or fretboard, I don't remember, is made of different wood than that of SG200.

I believe that this guitar has laminate back & sides. Therefore, cutting a hole on the side for battery and tone control would not be detrimental to the sound in any way. I refuse to play out with any guitar that requires me to almost rewove the strings to change the battery since you never know when that's going to be required.

i felt much the same when i tried 1 in guitar guitar glasgow, had my £700 cash expecting to buy, but although a beautifully lush strummer, i felt it was 1 trick pony and couldn't justify £700 for simply strumming, don't recall it having bad action, just lacking in anything other than strumming, single strings, riffs, fingerpicking, no projection at all, later got the sg100 version which is fab guitar and well worth it's cost, i got mine from shop in Germany online, at well reduced ex display for only £375, not bad for guitar that costs over £500

@@philidorblackmmar7910 It's certainly not a "Bad" guitar it's a very lush sounding strummer unlike any other, but that was it, it's not an all round guitar & i couldn't justify spending £700 for a 1 trick pony, a lovely strummer

The reality is that too much ebony has been wasted to get the dark heartwood. Because musicians feel they need to be pampered to show off bling we are coming upon a tonewood crisis. The world has to adjust. Don't worry we'll wave to you while you remain stuck in the mud.

Guitars aren't perfectly suited to the player when they come out of the factory they're barely playable some of them. They have to be set up according to the musicians playing style. I take every new guitar I buy straight to my local tech who is amazing. When Joe Walsh comes to Australia he uses Leo, that's how good he is. The down side is that he isn't cheap $380 is what I pay but it's worth every cent believe me. Alternately learn how to do it yourself.
