What APSC Canon needed, the 10-18 from Sigma should be next.
@larswara2124Ай бұрын
Canon aps-c-owners REALLY deserve this lens!! Have used my Sony version for about a year now, and it`s an impressive lens, considering 2,8 (constant!!) aperture, size, weight, and price. Love it! Hope that Viltrox, Yongnuo etc can follow suit. 🙂

Hopefully we’ll get some Viltrox 1.2’s for Canon RF in the future
@DustinAbbottTWIАй бұрын
That would be fantastic.

I'm just getting back in to photography after a 15 year hiatus. Picked up a R7 a month ago. It's my lucky day that this Sigma came out before starting a lense collection other than the kit 18-150. It will be perfect for my needs.

Perhaps I'm churlish and 🎉 partly crashing this apsc thread, however I remain a FF Canon owner waiting for Canon to fully open up Canon the RF system, the cost of RF glass is keeping me with my, quite frankly, excellent Canon 6D Mk2.

The Sony version of this lens has lived on my A6600 for the past couple of years. It is an absolutely fantastic lens on my Sony - compact, light, very sharp, very useful min focusing distance. An all-around excellent lens.

I currently use a Canon EFS 17-55 2.8 IS with an adapter on the R7, is the change worth it?
@DustinAbbottTWIАй бұрын
I think it is probably is. This lens is optically better, much smaller, and your R7 has IBIS to cover for the lack of IS>
@lino4thmr198522 күн бұрын
Do you think it's still usable on an R6/R5 and still get away with slight image cropping while editing? Expecting some barrel visibility and vignette

If you plan to review Sigma rf 10-18 could you include a full frame camera also in your review? May be couple of examples on the two extreme focals
@DustinAbbottTWI22 күн бұрын
I am working on the 10-18mm right now. I'll try to include a full frame analysis.
@DustinAbbottTWI21 күн бұрын
I tried to test that, and, in typical Canon fashion, they have anything but the 1.6x crop greyed out. Wanting to make sure you don't access full frame protocols under any circumstance.
@lino4thmr198521 күн бұрын
@@DustinAbbottTWI Oh damn, hmm if it's R8, 1.6 crop will still have resolution. I am using R6 mk1, I'll loose a lot if sensor resolution. Thanks a lot for testing it on full-frame. Waiting for your 10-18 mm sigma review.

Also if time allows you, would love to see your next Sigma RF lens review on a full frame also.

Which Viltrox model? Thus far there aren't any Viltrox zooms, so I'm curious what you're comparing.

@@DustinAbbottTWI I'm comparing the look their lens gives. Each brand has a clear color science/identity they are going with.

I am in love with mine for X mount, it is my general purpose lens and stays attached to my fuji x-s10 80% of the time, while for portraits I favour prime lenses (30mm and 56mm, also from sigma. Yeah, call me a sigma fanboy, but the price/performance ratio is just that good)
@IntothewestOkotoksАй бұрын
Great review, and I'm glad to hear you like the lens! I'm not surprised though, as I've owned/used the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 C for 8 years, and it's been a fantastic workhorse of a lens. Although I really enjoy my FF Canon lenses (mostly L), the one big benefit to smaller sensor cameras is still the size when there's a proper lens designed just for it (Fuji and Olympus photographers definitely know this!). I have two Tamrons as well and I don't think I'll ever buy Tamron again - but my two Sigmas (the other being a very old 8-16) have done fantastic for the price. IQ wise, if I said the L lenses I've used (28-70 F2, 70-200 2.8, 135 F2, etc) were a near 10 out of 10, my old 17-70 has been a solid 8-8.5, and I'd have no issue printing at A1 size and seeing the details I expect. Between this and the Sigma 10-18 coming out, these are going to make a fantastic travel combo!

I bought this lens for my R50, but returned it. Wasn’t fond of how the images looked. I felt that they lacked anything special. I like my EF-S 17-55 more, but I use that lens on an older 70d, and SL1.

Does this lens support canons setting of "movie servo AF speed"? On rf lenses you can dial in your desired video focus transition speed to avoid jumpy sudden focus changes. If that works the new Sigma RF lenses will be very interesting for filming :)

Look who finally made it! (or rather, who Canon finally chose to let in.) I know this will be repeated content, but thanks for putting a dedicated video together anyway Dustin. Canon shooters who aren't familiar with the options should find it helpful.

I also really enjoy their cameras, but I've hated their policies in the RF mount era. This is obviously a (small) step in the right direction.
