This is the 17th lecture in Which We will Discuss The Biography of Sigmund Freud and Socialization theory /
Sigmund Freud Personality Theory or Psychoanalytical theory
Sigmund Freud (1856 to 1939) was the founding father of psychoanalysis, a method for treating mental illness and also a theory which explains human behavior. Freud believed that events in our childhood have a great influence on our adult lives, shaping our personality.
Freud's theory provides one conceptualization of how personality is structured and how the elements of personality function. In Freud's view, a balance in the dynamic interaction of the id, ego, and superego is necessary for a healthy personality. While the ego has a tough job to do, it does not have to act alone.

Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, had a complicated relationship with women throughout his life. He held some controversial views on women, which he wrote about in several of his works. One of the most notable examples of this is his concept of "penis envy," in which he posits that women suffer from a "castration complex" that stems from their lack of a penis and their resulting feelings of inferiority. Additionally, his theories of psychosexual development and the Oedipus complex, which propose that girls develop a strong desire for their fathers as a precursor to a healthy adult sexuality, also have been widely criticized for being sexist and not supported by scientific evidence. Freud had a close bond with his mother, Amalia, throughout his childhood and adulthood. However, he also wrote about her in a somewhat negative light in his letters and papers. For example, in a letter to Wilhelm Fliess, he wrote that his mother "is as clever as a witch and just as wicked." He also wrote that his mother was overly controlling and his father was weak, which may have influenced his theories of Oedipus complex. He also had a close relationship with his sister, Anna, who later became a prominent psychoanalyst in her own right. However, they had a falling out later in life, which was the subject of much speculation and debate among Freud scholars. Regarding his wife Martha, Freud married her in 1886 and had six children. They remained married until Freud's death in 1939. They had a very close relationship, but like any relationship, it wasn't without challenges. According to his biographers, Martha occasionally struggled with feelings of jealousy and insecurity regarding her husband's female patients and his need to travel frequently. It's also important to note that while he had close relationships with these women, his theories and views of women have been widely criticized for being sexist and not supported by scientific evidence.
